A recent graduate of German and Portuguese from the University of Bristol (2:1) looking to get started in the field of professional translation. Relevant optional modules undertaken during my course are: Audio-Visual translation for students of Portuguese (subtitling module); introduction to language technology (machine translation and post-editing unit); Portuguese to English translation (masters level module taken at the University of Coimbra). In addition to these optional units, compulsory translation units were taught in each year of the degree in both German and Portuguese, where translation theory was a key element. I also took multiple units related to linguistics and sociolinguistics throughout my degree. Whilst not having formally specialised in any translation area yet, the field which interests me the most is literary translation, and this type of translation is where I always exceled during my degree. I am familiar with various relevant tools and programmes, including Aegishub, WINCAPS, OmegaT and Sketch Engine. As such I am looking for work in translation, subtitling and post-editing, as well as any corpus linguistics-based research. |
