Translation - English Besides these common political, institutional and social denominators, the Portuguese and Romanians share other national factors: our civilizational and linguistic roots based in Latinity. In Portugal’s case, and I believe in Romania too, this cultural component is essential. Our National Day, the 10th of June, does not celebrate our independence of almost nine hundred years or any military victory. It is the date of the death of Luís Vaz de Camões in 1580; a poet from the 16th century, whose epic Os Lusíadas, first published in 1572, recounts the History of Portugal and its Heroes. In remembering this date, we celebrate principally the Portuguese Language, Portugal’s most important heritage over almost nine centuries, the dispersal of which over five continents gives it a global projection and made it one of the most important languages in the World. In 2019, we also commemorate the centenary of Sophia de Mello Breyner Andresen’s birth, the most famous female Portuguese poet and writer of the last century, an incomparable literary and civil figure.

From deciphering Ancient Greek and Latin texts at university to training new staff in office etiquette and sales techniques, from teaching 300+ teenagers in classrooms to working out the needs of my own small children, I’ve always been helping others convey what they want and need to say. I was translating and proofreading long before I called myself a translator, and I'm delighted to have made it my profession.
My PT-EN translation portfolio extends from research via the Centre for Social Studies (University of Coimbra) to museum texts, personal interest blogs, and even an international recipe book.
My EN proofreading work includes PhD theses for the University of St Andrews and the University of Coimbra, along with articles published in International Studies Review (OUP) and the Review of International Studies (CUP), and a book published by Routledge.
