Just out of college, I positioned myself as a part-time interpreter/translator. To enhance my skills and better myself as a linguistic expert, I went to a graduate school of Chung-Ang University in South Korea and obtained a master’s degree in advanced interpretation and translation (KR-EN).
After graduation, I started off my career as a Korean-English interpreter/translator in Hanwha Techwin, one of the largest defense manufacturers based in South Korea. I handled executive-level business meetings and other meetings of all sizes that needed to be translated and documents written in Korean, such as industry analysis reports.
I then moved on to Kim & Chang, the most prominent law firm in South Korea. Working in Intellectual Property division, I translated Korean patent notices issued by Korean patent authorities and proofread English documents drafted by Korean patent lawyers.
In 2018, I decided to move to the United States with my husband and we finally settled in San Diego, California. Going through relocation, I have never stopped but rather pursued to expand my career as a freelance interpreter/translator in settings such as film premieres and interviews with war veteran families.
This year, as a stepping stone for my career in the US, I passed a written exam and am waiting for the oral exam results to become a California certified court interpreter. With part of my heart reserved for working in court, I am always open to new and exciting opportunities where I can contribute my skills and experience. Having come and gone across different industries and even different countries, I have never allowed my fields of expertise to be limited to business, culture, arts, defense, manufacturing, intellectual property, and law, just to name a few. I really hope we can come across somewhere along my journey! |
