Source text - Polish W przeprowadzonych w niniejszej pracy doświadczeniach mierzono stężenie cząstek TEP w hodowlach Anabaena flos-aquae rosnących na pożywkach z azotanami oraz bez azotanów przy dwóch intensywnościach oświetlenia (40 i 120 µE•m-2•s-1). Stwierdzono, że stężenie TEP jest najwyższe w hodowlach, w których ze składu pożywki wyłączono azot (medium BG-110). Wtedy to stężenia TEP przy oświetleniu 40 µE•m-2•s-1 i 120 µE•m-2•s-1 wynoszą odpowiednio: 0,208 mg l-1 oraz 0,161 mg l -1. Zdecydowanie niższe wartości stężenia TEP wystąpiły w hodowlach rosnących na pełnych pożywkach (BG-11). Tam najwyższe wartości wyniosły jedynie 0,1 mg l-1, niezależnie od intensywności oświetlenia.
Translation - English In the present experiments, TEP concentrations were measured in Anabaena flos-aquae cultures, grown on nitrate-containing and nitrate-free media at two light intensities (40 and 120 µE•m-2•s-1). The highest TEP concentrations were found in the cultures grown on nitrate-free media (medium BG-110 in which case TEP concentrations were: 0.208 mg l-1 and 0.161 mg l-1 for light intensities of 40 µE• m-2•s-1 and 120 µE• m-2•s-1, respectively. Definitely lower TEP concentrations were observed in the cultures grown on complete media (BG-11), where the highest values were as low as 0.1 mg l-1, irrespective of the light intensity.

Source text - Polish Badaniom poddano herbatki owocowe o smaku malinowym. Smak ten został wybrany, gdyż znajduje się w asortymencie każdego wytwórcy herbatek owocowych. Do badań pobrano próbki herbatek siedmiu producentów. Wszystkie badane herbatki były w formie torebek ekspresowych. Określono stężenia siedmiu pierwiastków zarówno w suszu owocowym, jak i w naparach z niego sporządzonych. Próbki poddano mineralizacji stężonymi kwasami HCl i HNO3 przy jednoczesnym działaniu mikrofal. Stężenia pierwiastków oznaczano metodą AAS.(…)Przygotowanie suszów owocowych Naważkę 0,2 g (±0,001 g) suszu owocowego zadawano mieszaniną 15 cm3 kwasu solnego i 5 cm3 kwasu azotowego(V). Następnie przeprowadzano mineralizacje przy użyciu mikrofal. Zastosowano piec mikrofalowy MDS-2000 firmy CEM. Mineralizacje w zamkniętych naczyniach teflonowych przeprowadzono przez ok. 1h. Oznaczono stężenie siedmiu pierwiastków w suszach i ich naparach. Pomiar stężeń pierwiastków wykonano przy użyciu spektrometru absorpcji atomowej SpectrAA-800 firmy Varian. Metale Fe, Zn, Mn oznaczono technika płomieniową (F-AAS), natomiast pierwiastki występujące w herbatkach owocowych w niższych stężeniach oznaczono technika elektrotermiczną na kuwecie grafitowej (GF-AAS).
Translation - English Fruit teas with the raspberry flavor were examined. The raspberry flavor was chosen because it is offered by every manufacturer of fruit tea products. Samples of fruit teas made by seven manufacturers were selected. All of the fruit teas tested were in the form of tea bags. The concentrations of seven elements were determined, both in dried fruit and in infusions obtained therefrom. The samples were mineralized with the use of concentrated HCl and HNO3 while being microwaved. The concentrations of the elements were determined by AAS(…)Preparation of dried fruitA mixture of 15 cm3 of hydrochloric acid and 5 cm3 of nitric(V) acid was added to a known weight of 0.2 g (±0.001 g) of dried fruit. Mineralization was then carried out by microwaving, using a model MDS-2000 microwave oven from CEM. Mineralization in closed Teflon dishes was continued for about 1 hour. The concentrations of seven elements in dried fruit products and in the infusions were determined. The concentrations of the elements were measured by atomic absorption spectrometry, using model SpectrAA-800 apparatus from Varian. The metals Fe, Zn, Mn were determined by flame atomic absorption spectroscopy (F-AAS), and lower concentration elements present in the fruit teas were determined by graphite furnace atomic absorption spectroscopy (GF-AAS).

Source text - Polish Prowadzono badania szybkości ekstrakcji miedzi(II) hydrofobowymi pochodnymi modelowych ekstrahentów oraz preparatami handlowymi. Stosowano następujące grupy związków: hydroksyoksymy aromatyczne, oksymy alkanali, bis-hydroksyoksymy, β-diketony oraz hydrofobowe pochodne estrów i amidów kwasów pirydynokarboksylowych.(…) Zbadano szybkość ekstrakcji mieszaniną ekstrahenta solwatującego i chelatującego oraz mieszanina ekstrahenta solwatującego i modyfikatora. We wszystkich badanych układach zaobserwowano spadek szybkości ekstrakcji po wprowadzeniu dodatkowej substancji. Obniżenie szybkości jest spowodowane głównie blokowaniem powierzchni granicznej przez modyfikator lub ekstrahent chelatujący. Porównano koszty otrzymywania miedzi metodą hydrometalurgiczną i pirometalurgiczną. Wskazano również podstawowe zagrożenia ekologiczne powstające przy produkcji miedzi.
Translation - English The rate of copper(II) extraction with hydrophobic derivatives of model extractants and with commercial preparations was studied. The following groups of compounds were used: aromatic hydroxy oximes, alkanal oximes, bis-hydroxy oximes, b-diketons, and hydrophobic derivatives of pyrridine carboxylic acid amides and esters.(…) The rate of extraction was investigated using a mixture of a solvating and a chelating extractants and a mixture comprising a solvating extractant and a modifier. The rate of extraction was observed to fall after introducing an additional substance in each of the systems investigated. The rate decline observed was mainly due to the interfacial area being blocked by the modifier or by the chelating extractant. Copper production costs by the hydrometallurgical and pyrometallurgical methods were compared and major environmental hazards involved in copper production were pointed out.

Source text - English XXX is a chelating resin of macroporous structure, with a polystyrene matrix crosslinked with divinylbenzene (DVB) substituted with weakly acidic aminophosphonic active groups. This chemical structure facilitates the formation of complexes with metallic ions.
The aminophosphonic chelating resins have a greater affinity for certain cations, and form more stable complexes with cations of low atomic mass metals than their iminodiacetic resin counterparts. Hence XXX is capable of fixing one or more specific cations from a larger range even from solutions which are highly concentrated.

The pressure drop (or headloss) across a properly classified bed of ion-exchange resin depends on the particle size distribution, bed depth, and voids volume of the exchange material and on the flowrate and viscosity (and hence on the temperature) of the influent solution. Anything affecting any of these parameters, for example the presence of particulate matter filtered out by the bed, abnormal compaction of the bed, or the incomplete classification of the bed, will have an adverse effect and result in an increased headloss. Service flow rates from 10-30 bed volumes per hour, depending on the application, may be regarded as the normal range used on this resin.

Some bacteria may show H2S production on Kligler Agar (Fxxx 60787) but not on Triple Sugar Iron Agar. This can happen because of sucrose in the medium, which suppresses the enzymatic pathway that results in H2S production.

Source text - Polish PRAWDA I FAŁSZ PUBLICZNYCH PRZESTRZENI HISTORYCZNYCH W OBRĘBIE STAREGO MIASTA W POZNANIUWspółczesna odbudowa zabytków wzbudza ambiwalentne uczucia, zarówno entuzjazmu, jak i protestów, tym gorętszych im ważniejszy pod względem historycznym, emocjonalnym jest dany obiekt i jego otoczenie. A przecież uchwalona na Międzynarodowej Konferencji Konserwatorskiej w Krakowie „Karta Kraków 2000”, daje jednoznaczne wskazówki. Jasno wypowiada się za ochroną tego co zachowało się, rekonstrukcję dopuszczając tylko w niewielkich fragmentach, jeżeli wymagają tego względy estetyczne. Natomiast rekonstrukcję całego budynku akceptuje tylko wtedy, gdy został zburzony na skutek kataklizmu i co więcej posiada ważne znaczenie kulturowe, wreszcie gdy zachował się wiarygodny materiał ikonograficzny, najlepiej inwentaryzacja konserwatorska. Niepisaną, ale godną zalecenia zasadą jest dopuszczenie odbudowy wówczas, gdy wizerunek obiektu trwa jeszcze w pamięci przynajmniej części mieszkańców. W przeciwnym wypadku należy go wznosić w nowych formach architektonicznych. Tyle pryncypia. (…)Wydaje się iż w Poznaniu pierwszorzędną rolę odgrywa konserwatyzm myślenia, brak zaufania do nowoczesnej architektury szczególnie żywy wśród starszego pokolenia, którego młodość przypadła na heroiczny czas odbudowy, nieprawdopodobne wręcz deklarowane przywiązanie do koncepcji Zielińskiego potwierdzone niejako niedawnym wskrzeszeniem zniszczonej gipsowej makiety z 1948 r. przedstawiającej jego wizję odbudowanego Starego Rynku. Być może postawy takie wiążą się z wkraczaniem do przestrzeni historycznej tzw. „estetyki konsumenckiej” kształtowanej często przez paraestetyczne gusta. Pytań i wątpliwości związanych ze zjawiskiem „odbitej czy zapożyczonej auratyczności” jest wiele, a samo zjawisko to niewątpliwie świetny materiał badawczy dla socjologów kultury.
Translation - English THE TRUTH AND THE FALSENESS OF PUBLIC HISTORICAL SITES WITHIN THE OLD TOWN IN POZNAŃIn the present times, reconstruction of monuments stirs up ambivalent feelings of both enthusiasm and protest, which are the stronger, the more important a given monument and its surroundings are historically or emotionally. On the other hand, unambiguous directions are found in the “Cracow Chart 2000”, adopted during the International Conference on Conservation in Cracow: it expressly opts for protecting what has survived, allowing for reconstruction of small fragments only and merely for esthetic reasons whereas reconstruction of a whole building is acceptable only in cases when its demolition has resulted from a catastrophe and, which is more, the building is of historical importance and some kind of reliable iconographic material has survived, preferably in the form of inventory for the purposes of conservation of monuments. An unwritten rule which is worth recommendation says that reconstruction should be permitted when the picture of the object has survived in the memory of at least some of the locals. Otherwise, it should be erected in a new architectural shape. So much for the principles. (…)It seems that Poznań has a preference for conservative thinking, a lack of confidence in modern architecture, specifically among older generations who were young in the heroic years of reconstruction, a virtually improbable affection for Zieliński’s concepts, confirmed in a way by the recent revival of the destroyed gypsum model from 1948 showing his vision of the reconstructed Old Market. These attitudes may be due to the interference in historical sites of what is called a “consumer esthetics”, frequently shaped by paraesthetic taste. There are many questions and answers connected with the phenomenon of a “reflected or borrowed aura” and the phenomenon itself is an excellent research material for culture sociologists.

Przez dorobek epoki wyzierają jej elity intelektualne. W Wielkim Księstwie Litewskim czasu Renesansu i wczesnego Baroku uderza wielkość dokonań - kodyfikacja praw, powołanie i praca Akademii Wileńskiej, unia brzeska, wreszcie rozwijająca się wówczas idea narodowa Litwinów i Białorusinów. Niestety. Jakże niewiele wiemy o twórcach tych przedsięwzięć. Jedynie niektórzy z nich - choć nie w pełni - są nam znani. Nikła wiedza o ludziach i ich trudzie jest krzycząca w opracowaniach, gdzie więcej niż dokumentacji źródłowej - jest uogólnień; quasi naukowych supozycji; paralelizmu dowodowego. Co wykazują erudycyjne fundamenty większości prac - dawniejszych i najnowszych. Stosujących dalece posuniętą egzemplifikację. Jeżeli słabo rozpoznane są koleje życia tak luminarzy epoki jak i szeregowych jej współtwórców, to tym mniej wiemy o warsztacie ich pracy. A takim warsztatem były przecie (i bodaj przede wszystkim) księgozbiory !

Methodological Postulates in Investigating the Issue
Intellectual elites shine through the achievements of the period. What is striking in the Great Duchy of Lithuania of the Renaissance and early Baroque, is the magnitude of its achievements – codification of laws, foundation and activity of the Vilnius Academy, the Union of Brest and, last but not least, the nascent ideas of nationality of the Lithuanians and Byelorussians. Regrettably, very little is known about the authors of those achievements. Merely few of them are known to us, and not too well at all. The knowledge of the people and their toil, although quite limited, is largely derived from surveys where source documentation is dominated by generalization, quasi-scientific assumptions and parallelism based on selected evidence. This appears from the eruditional foundations of a majority of works, whether earlier or recent, based on extensive exemplification. Rather little is known of the vicissitudes of the celebrities of the period, even less is known about its ordinary co-creators, and hardly anything at all is known of their sources, although these were based principally on book collections!

W angielskim przekładzie tytułu niniejszego komunikatu (Kategoria wartości jako fundament rozumienia muzyki Chopina) zarysowuje się – nie zamierzona wcześniej – dwuznaczność, która jednak pozwoli bezpośrednio wprowadzić w sedno zagadnienia: przyjęcie kategorii wartości jako podstawy dla zrozumienia muzyki Chopina jest zgodne ze sposobem pojmowania muzyki przez samego kompozytora, ujawnionym w jego korespondencji i szkicach do metody gry fortepianowej. Termin „rozumienie” zastosowany do muzyki przybiera sens szeroki, Gadamerowski, obejmując zarówno „praxis”, jak i „teorię”, zarówno „verstehen”, jak i „erfahren”, zaś poszczególne czynności: analiza i interpretacja stanowią dwa aspekty, czy raczej fazy procesu rozumienia1. U podstaw tego procesu leży kategoria wartości, co zauważył już Hans Mersmann2. Podobnie – jako „podstawowy przedmiot estetyki” traktuje wartość Maria Gołaszewska, uznając ją za rację bytu dzieła sztuki3. Choć Władysław Tatarkiewicz określił wartość jako „ein Urphänomen”, zjawisko proste, nierozkładalne4, to jednak Gołaszewska podjęła próbę zdefiniowania wartości. Jest to według niej: „[…] własność przedmiotu, szczególna cecha, która sprawia, że przedmiot ten zostaje wyodrębniony spośród innych” 5. Ta bardzo szeroka definicja wyraźnie zakłada, że wartość ujawnia się już w samym akcie postrzegania, „wyodrębniania z tła”. Kategorią wartości wielokrotnie zajmował się Roman Ingarden, wykładając swą teorię dzieła sztuki jako bytu intencjonalnego. Wyróżnione przez niego wartości artystyczna i estetyczna, które przysługują dziełu jako – odpowiednio – tworowi schematycznemu i jego konkretyzacji, rozdzielają niepodzielną według Gołaszewskiej sytuację estetyczną6. Jednak Ingarden, oprócz tych dwu równoległych niejako aspektów dzieła, dostrzegł też jego warstwową budowę i podobny układ odpowiadających warstwom dzieła wartości–jakości7.
Translation - English Category of Value as a Basis of Understanding Music by Chopin
In the English translation of the title of this communication there is outlined a previously unintended ambiguity that will, yet, enable one to be introduced into the heart of the issue: accepting the category of value as the basis for understanding Chopin’s music is in harmony with the way in which the composer himself comprehended music, as revealed in his letters and sketches to the piano playing method. The term „understanding”, as applied to music, assumes a broad, Gadamerian sense, involving both “praxis” and “theory”, both “verstehen” and “erfahren”, whereas individual actions: analysis and interpretation make up two aspects, or rather phases of the process of understanding1. The category of value is at the foundation of the process, as was already noticed by Hans Mersmann2. Similarly, value is regarded by Maria Gołaszewska as “the basic subject of aesthetics” and recognized as the raison d'être for a piece of art3. Although Władysław Tatarkiewicz described value as „ein Urphänomen”, a simple and indivisible phenomenon4, Gołaszewska made an effort to define value which, she considers to be „[...] a property of a subject, special feature, which makes the subject isolated from other ones” 5. This very broad definition clearly assumes that value reveals itself already in the act of perception, “isolating from the background”. The category of value was many times discussed by Roman Ingarden during his lectures on the theory of a work of art as an intentional being. The artistic and aesthetic values he distinguished to which a work is entitled as, respectively, a schematic creation and its substantiation, divide the aesthetic situation6 which, according to Gołaszewska, is indivisible. However, apart from the two, in some measure, parallel aspects of work, Ingarden noticed also its layered structure and similar layout, corresponding with the work’s layers, namely value-quality7.

Having graduated in 1987 (M.A. in English), I am a full-time professional specialist and
certified translator with experience exceeding 33 years, ranging from law to
science and technology, especially chemistry.
Between the years 1987 and 1997, I was a full-time translator working for a
chemical research institute, translating business documents and scientific
documentation on a number of chemicals ranging from detergents to polymers. My
employer's business was to develop and license chemical technologies. At that
time, I translated thousand of pages of documentation required for building
plants manufacturing Bisphenol A, Epoxy resins, and Epichlorohydrin to clients
in mainland China, India, and Korea.
Since 1997, I have been fully self-employed. What I regularly translate includes
Material Safety Data Sheets, Product Safety Sheets, chemical papers and patent
documentation as well Product Information for companies distributing chemical
reagents.
