My name is Jessica
Maifredi, I'm 23 years old and I am Italian. I graduated in
February in Sciences of Language Mediation at the SSML of Varese; I chose this
university to combine my two greatest passions: languages and writing. If you
translate the sterile meaning of words from one language to another, well, you
are not really translating. A proper translator understands the text, grasps
its hidden meanings and only then tries to translate it in the target language,
paying attention to the form and the style. My university degree properly trained
me to become a translator, so I learned to analyse and to understand the text
in its deepest meanings and to smoothly write in Italian, English, French and
Spanish. The transIation
internship for the local newspaper “Varese News” gave me the opportunity to
study the journalistic tone and to make it mine in another language. I
translated different articles from Italian to English, working with my
colleagues and my English professor to achieve the best translation possible.
My graduate thesis "Translation of excerpts from 'The Ferryman' by Jez Butterworth" was awarded 9/10 points. My best translation are from English/French/Spanish to Italian, especially of literary texts. |
