Hello, I'm Afsar Khan from Dhaka, Bangladesh. I graduated in English & Philosophy from National University, Bangladesh, in 1994. 

I'm an English teacher & a translator between English & Bengali since 1990. I translate all types  of texts: General; Legal; Medical & Technical.

I believe that a good translation captures the spirit of a text without slavishly following it to the letter. It captures the energy and texture and voice of the source text and replicates them in the translation, drawing on all the resources of the target language. A good translation conveys what is written between the lines.

I have excellent reading and comprehension skills in both English & Bengali including having experience of leading research in both of these languages to succeed as a freelance translator. I'm a native Bengali speaker and native level fluent in English, therefore, I think I'm capable of understanding both English and Bengali as  source texts perfectly, and I truly know what I'm translating.

I think my translation sings, whispers and swears like the original; as distinctive in target language as the author's voice in the original language; fluidity, author's style and vocabulary; precisely corresponding in style and effect to a counterpart in author's text; eliciting the same emotional response in the reader as the source text does its readers; preserves the joys and beauties of its "Otherness" without resorting to weird foreignisation; source-text oriented and target-reader oriented; bold and creative and it sings; imperceptible; seems like original, seems like the translator is invisible; captivating and generous flow, two different languages - two different cultural backgrounds - but evoke the same emotional response; near-magical balance in mingling two different impulses or perceptions.
