Bio

I am a student at the University of Houston pursuing a Bachlor of Science in biochemistry and a minor in chemistry.

With the knowledge I have of the Korean language, I can read and comprehend at least 95% of the content reading light novels, listening to casual podcasts, and watching variety shows on web streaming services (i.e. YouTube) and television.

I have experience in voluntary translating/subtitling. I have translated over two dozen videos of length 2 minutes to 25 minutes. This includes translation, timing, and proofreading/editing. I am knowledgeable about subtitle file types (.srt, .ass, .smi, etc.). I have experience using two main subtitling software: SubtitleEdit and the YouTube browser subtitling software. I have dabbled using AegisSub.

I have been self-taught for the past three years and have no formal education in Korean. I understand this puts me at a disadvantage against other, more competitive freelancers, but I have confidence in both Korean and English. As a language learner, I have spent the last three years actively communicating with native Korean speakers, often teaching them and learning from them by clarifying and providing cultural and linguistic explanations in both languages. Additionally, having grown up bilingual, I understand the differences between understanding a language, producing a language, and reproducing content in a different language.
