MILAN KUNDERA
Musil and Broch saddled the novel with enormous responsibilities. They saw it as the supreme intellectual synthesis, the last place where man could still question the world as a whole. They were convinced that the novel had tremendous synthetic power, that it could be poetry, fantasy, philosophy, aphorism, and essay all rolled into one. In his letters, Broch makes some profound observations on this issue. However, it seems to me that he obscures his own intentions by using the ill-chosen term “polyhistorical novel.” It was in fact Broch’s compatriot, Adalbert Stifter, a classic of Austrian prose, who created a truly polyhistorical novel in his Der Nachsommer [Indian Summer], published in 1857. The novel is famous: Nietzsche considered it to be one of the four greatest works of German literature. Today, it is unreadable. It’s packed with information about geology, botany, zoology, the crafts, painting, and architecture; but this gigantic, uplifting encyclopedia virtually leaves out man himself, and his situation. Precisely because it is polyhistorical, Der Nachsommer totally lacks what makes the novel special. This is not the case with Broch. On the contrary! He strove to discover “that which the novel alone can discover.” The specific object of what Broch liked to call “novelistic knowledge” is existence. In my view, the word “polyhistorical” must be defined as “that which brings together every device and every form of knowledge in order to shed light on existence.” Yes, I do feel close to such an approach.

De såg den som den främsta intelektuella syntesen, som en sista plats där människan kan ifrågasätta världen i sin helhet. De var övertygade om att romanen besatt en enorm syntetisk kapacitet, att den kunde vara poesi, fantasi, filosofi, aforism och uppsats i ett. Broch beskriver detta ingående i sina brev. För mig verkar det dock som att han fördunklar sina avsikter genom att använda den felaktiga termen "polyhistorisk roman." Det var i själva verket Brochs kompatriot, Adalbert Stifter, en österrikisk klassisk prosaförfattare, som skapade den sanna polyhistoriska romanen i sin Der Nachsommer [Brittsommar], publicerad 1857. Every infant, child, and adolescent will experience pain at times throughout their life. Paediatric pain ranges from acute to chronic, and includes procedural, disease-related, breakthrough, and other types of pain. Despite its ubiquity, pain is often silenced and appropriate relief too infrequently given. Undertreated, unrecognised, or poorly managed pain in young people can have long-lasting negative consequences in later life, including continued chronic pain, disability, and distress. It is time for change. This Lancet Child & Adolescent Health Commission presents four transformative goals—to make pain matter, understood, visible, and better. It sets out priorities for clinicians, researchers, funders, and policy makers, and calls for cross-sector collaboration to deliver the action needed to improve the lives of children and adolescents with pain.

Source text - English Stroke, the third leading cause of death and disability, requires timely delivery of best-practice care to improve patient outcomes. In high-income countries, major developments have streamlined systems of care and improved the speed of recognition, response, triage, and delivery of acute treatments. In low-income and middle-income countries, despite disparities in wealth, education, baseline health indicators, and funding of health-care expenditures, stroke services can be improved with a few adaptations and infrastructural remodelling. This three-part series discusses various aspects of stroke care, challenges, and opportunities for improvement of systems of care and highlights approaches for rapid uptake of evidence-based practice for rehabilitation. Finally, a call to action urges educators and the stroke rehabilitation clinical, research, and not-for-profit communities to work together for greater effect and to accelerate progress.

I was born and raised in Sweden speaking Swedish, English and Polish. The latter is my parent tongue.
Being a writer and poet since the age of nine, I decided to graduate in English Literature. I supplemented my studies with copy-editing and interpreting school.
I am now well over two years into translating and interpreting English into Swedish.
