English to Italian: Feasibility study document
Source text - English Geographically located in the Horn of Africa, the Federal Republic of Ethiopia covers a territory of 1,104,000 square kilometers, about three and a half times the Italian national territory.
Its population - of almost 100,000,000 inhabitants - is made up of more than 80 different ethnic groups of mainly Cuscitic, Semitic and Nilotic origin, the majority of which are Oromo (35%), Amhara (27%), Tigre and Somali (6%). Growth estimates for the next forty years predict a total population of 210,000,000 by 2060, with one of the highest population growth rates in the world.
In Ethiopia it is also easy to observe trends typical in most African countries, i.e. a copious and increasing internal migration from rural to urban areas, due to the greater availability of services and market than the former. The capital, Addis Ababa, which today counts about 10,000,000 inhabitants (one tenth of the entire national population) expects to double its population in the next fifteen years, which is definitely not enough time to update the services that such a demographic increase would require. The forecasts, both from a socio-economic and psychological-relational point of view, seem to outline a near future full of challenges.
On an economic perspective, Ethiopia has seen an annual growth of 10% between 2004 and 2009, among the highest in the world, according to the International Monetary Fund. It has now stabilised between 6 and 7%, driven by the agricultural sector. Agriculture alone accounts for 41% of GDP, is responsible for 80% of exports and employs 80% of the workforce. Despite the high rate of growth, yet GDP per capita remains one of the lowest in the world, leaving most of the population below the poverty line.
