Source text - English “St. James sends his regards. He’ll be at the gala. No plus one.” Logan grins suddenly. “I told him we’d help him find a date.”
“You didn’t.” I can’t imagine joking or teasing someone like St. James. He’s my age, but so intimidating. “Maybe we should introduce him to Rachel. Whenever I call her, she complains she’s too busy running Belladonna to have time to date.”
Logan snorts. “They’d kill each other.”
“Probably.” I shake my head, imagining them meeting. I’m about to joke about it when a few drops of water hit my arm.
Isabella runs up to us. “Mommy, it’s raining.”
“You grab her, I’ll get Nathan and the blanket.” Logan kisses me and we triage, racing inside ahead of the heavy summer downpour.
An hour later, Logan finds me in my mother’s old room, which I’ve converted to my study. It has the best view of the gardens. I stare out the window, letting the rain lull me to peacefulness.
“Kids are asleep,” my husband whispers in my ear.
“I was going to check the latest test results,” I murmur. “But I might have a few minutes.” I turn and ease up to tiptoe to twine my arms around his neck. “What do you think, Dr. Wulfe? Will this only take a few minutes?”
His answer is a growl. I laugh as he pounces. We make love under the open window until the storm recedes, leaving only the sound of dripping leaves and the heady fragrance of roses.

Er ist gleichaltrig mit mir, aber so respekteinflößend. “Vielleicht sollten wir ihn Rachel vorstellen. Jedes Mal wenn ich sie anrufe, beschwert sie sich, zu beschäftigt mit Belladonna zu sein, um Zeit für ein Rendezvous zu haben.
“Die würden sich glatt umbringen,” Logan schnaubt.
“Wahrscheinlich.” Ich schüttle den Kopf, wenn ich daran denke, wie die zwei sich treffen.
Schon will ich darüber scherzen, als ein paar Wassertropfen meinen Arm streifen.
Isabella läuft uns entgegen. “Mami, es regnet.”
“Schnapp sie dir, ich hole Nathan und die Decke.” Logan küsst mich und wir kümmern uns schnell ums Wichtigste, indem wir vor dem starken Sommerregen Schutz im Haus suchen.
Eine Stunde später findet mich Logan im alten Zimmer meiner Mutter, das ich in ein Studierzimmer umgewandelt habe. Es bietet den besten Blick auf die Gärten. Ich starre aus dem Fenster und lasse mich vom Regen einlullen.
“Die Kids schlafen,” wispert mir meine bessere Hälfte ins Ohr.
“Ich wollte mir mal die letzten Testergebnisse anschauen,” murmle ich. “Aber ein paar Minuten habe ich.” Ich drehe mich um, und auf Zehenspitzen schlinge ich meine Arme um seinen Nacken. “Was hältst du davon, Dr. Wulfe? Wird das nur ein paar Minuten dauern?”
Seine Antwort ist ein Brummen. Ich lache, als er sich auf mich stürzt. Wir lieben uns unter dem geöffneten Fenster, bis der Sturm nachläßt, und nur das Geräusch tropfender Blätter und ein betäubender Geruch nach Rosen zurückbleibt.

Source text - English He’s just started to deepen the kiss when there’s a shrill whistle. Like someone blowing on an actual whistle. What on earth—?
I pull back from Logan lips in confusion. Is this some kind of gag before Armand gives his toast?
Whatever I expect to see, it’s not a brigade of serious-faced policemen, along with some men in scrubs behind them, barging into the wedding. It’s not hard to see where they’re headed.
Straight for Logan and me.
“What’s the meaning of this?” Armand demands, trying to step in front of the most senior-looking policeman.
“Are you the groom?” the hard-faced policeman asks.
Armand’s face registers confusion but he doesn’t answer. Apparently he doesn’t need to.
Because rounding the corner is Adam Archer.
“No,” Adam stands arrogantly and points to Logan. “That’s him. That’s the man you’re here to arrest.”

“What?” I screech just as Logan finally drops me to the ground and steps in front of me, shielding me from Adam.
“What’s this about, Archer? You here to finally have it out with me like a man?” Logan sneers.
Translation - German Gerade gewinnt sein Kuss an Leidenschaft, als eine schrille Pfeife hörbar wird. Als ob jemand auf einer wirklichen Pfeife bliese. Was in der Welt --?
Verwirrt löse ich mich von Logans Lippen. Ist das eine Art Einlage, bevor Armand uns zuprosten wird?

“Nein.” Adam nimmt eine arrogante Haltung ein und zeigt auf Logan. “Er ist’s. Ihn kannst du heute verhaften.”

“Wie bitte?” frage ich mit schriller Stimme, als Logan mich endgültig auf den Boden zurückgleiten läßt und vor mich tritt, um mich vor Adam zu beschützen.
“Was soll das heißen, Archer? Bist du gekommen, um dich endlich mit mir von Mann zu Mann zu unterhalten?” fragt Logan verächtlich.
