English to Korean: An Alternative to War General field: Social Sciences Detailed field: International Org/Dev/Coop
Source text - English The role of women in peace and security has not been given the appropriate attention. Take, for example, treaties,
in particular peace agreements, which are most commonly negotiated and signed in a male-dominated context,
by state and non-state armed actors. This context utterly misses the reality on the ground. The “Better Peace Tool”
by the International Civil Society Action Network was developed as a guide to inclusive peace processes and
negotiations.
136 Women, according to the report, share a vision of societies rooted in social justice and equality;
are an important source of practical experience about life in a war zone; and better understand on-the-ground
realities. Peace processes therefore should not be narrowly focused security or political ones, but inclusive
societal processes. This is what is called the democratization of peacemaking.
