Italian to English: Organized Motorcycle Gangs
General field: Other
Detailed field: History

Despite the difficulties due to the Great Depression, in this period (precisely in 1936) the Outlaw MC was founded, an organization that left a permanent mark on the history of American motorcycling. However, the event that drastically conditioned this field in the USA was the II World War. At the end of the War, many young American soldiers came home disoriented, aimless, unable to return to their normal lives, lost forever. At the same time, these boys developed a sense of brotherhood, a typical military comradeship and respect for hierarchies, values that were difficult to find in their daily lives. It was this traumatic experience that led to a spreading of motorcycle clubs, where the veterans could relive the strong feelings of the five-year period (1940-45) that they spent overseas, getting into saddles similar to the ones they rode in war.

U.S. Foreign Policy:
Democratic Enlargement
Branislav L. Slantchev
Department of Political Science, University of California, San Diego
Last updated: February 24, 2016 Bill Clinton was the first American president whose tenure in office lay entirely after the Cold War. If his predecessor’s foreign policy was (uncharitably) characterized
as “process without purpose”, Clinton’s would be characterized as “purpose without process.”1 If his predecessor had relied on the power of the American military and on the strength of America’s alliances in his regional defense strategy, Clinton would rely on soft power — America would lead by example through the what was believed to be an emerging consensus in world opinion that liberal political systems and free markets were the only proven path to prosperity and peace.
To this end, the U.S. would support the consolidation of new democracies and free markets and counter attempts to subvert them while simultaneously working through international multilateral institutions.

Politica estera degli Stati Uniti:
l'ampliamento Democratico.

Branislav L. Slantchev.
Dipartimento di Scienze Politiche, Università della California, San Diego.
Ultimo aggiornamento: 24 febbraio 2016.
