Source text - Estonian Suhteline vaesus näitab elanike osatähtsust, kelle sissetulekud jäävad allapoole mingit osakaalu elanikkonna mediaansissetulekust. Euroopa Liidus ja sealhulgas Eestis loetakse allpool vaesusriski piiri elavateks inimesi, kelle sissetulekud on väiksemad kui 60% sissetulekute mediaanist. Suhtelise vaesuse näitajate arvutamisel kasutatakse Euroopas levinud tarbimiskaale 1; 0,5;0,3.
Translation - English Relative poverty shows the percentage of inhabitants whose income remains below a certain percentage of the median income of inhabitants. In the European Union and in Estonia, people whose income is lower than 60% of the income median are considered to be living below the level of poverty risk. In calculating the relative poverty indicators, the consumption scales recognised in Europe are used: 1; 0.5; 0.3.
The relative poverty indicators do not allow for a direct evaluation of an improvement or deterioration in people’s subsistence, as these indicators are not based on expenditure or consumption. Relative poverty reflects the distribution of incomes in the society – this means that when the people’s incomes increase while the distribution of incomes remains the same, then the level of relative poverty remains the same.
