QA/QC
We consult with an active standby network of over 50 native speakers from various industrial/trade sectors, such as: leading engineering and construction companies; engineers, technicians, workshop mechanics from the automotive/earthmoving/agricultural machinery industry; aerospace engineers, chemical engineering, computer/IT technology, Greek Supreme Court lawyers, distinguished economists, PR & advertising agency executives, marketing managers, defense experts, etc.
Professional contacts include some leading Greek researchers working in top-rated facilities worldwide, as well as among Greek MDs covering a wide spectrum of expertise, such as surgeons, neurosurgeons, orthopedics, cardiologists, radiologists, hematologists, general practitioners, biochemists, laboratory technicians, etc. We maintain and regularly update a database of leading Greek-American experts in the Life Sciences in the US that we can consult with if required.
Supported by proofreader/advisor network including some highly qualified, prolific, cited and respected experts in various professional disciplines. For example, in the field of biomedicals/diagnostics, I cooperate with individuals who are in charge of diagnostics laboratories or managing medical test QA/QC in some of the major healthcare centers across Greece.
STYLE ISSUES
What is a mess for everybody else, is pretty straightforward for us. We just keep in mind the following:
There are no overall strict rules governing the appearance of manuscripts in Greek. For example, there are no equivalents for "The Chicago Manual of Style" or the "Council of Biology Editors Style Guide" on technical writing or even "The New York Times Manual of Style and Usage" and other standard texts in Greek. To cope with the mayhem, many Greek translation agencies have adopted lop-sided practices, such as direct transfer of the English capitalization rules (first letter of every word in titles and headings capitalized). Although the customer has the final saying on these issues, we have to warn against these highly controversial and often unacceptable approaches.
To standardize linguistic style and preserve natural and well-accepted differences in style among languages, we have established and regularly consult our in-house Style Guides on subjects such as punctuation, unit conversion, bulleted and numbered lists, hyphenation, capitalization, abbreviations, conciseness etc. These Style Guides are available to the client upon request.
CONFIDENTIALITY/NON-DISCLOSURE
All translation projects are confidential in nature and are covered by a blanket Non-Disclosure Agreement. We have never received a complaint from any customer, although at times we handled concurrently sensitive information from two or more competitors.
Separate Non-Disclosure Agreements can be signed with each individual that will be involved in the project, if required.
CRISIS MANAGEMENT
Direct communication with the customer by e-mail and/or phone and guaranteed a 1-2 hour response time, 24x7. Organized help-desk to provide immediate on-line assistance to a wide range of issues. We monitor incoming mail to identify problems and disseminate solutions.
