Source text - English When my wife told me she was pregnant, I got that stomach-churning sensation that hits you on a plunging roller coaster. I was excited, yes, but... oh my God. Parenting was for, well, parents.
So here I stand, bug-eyed and sweating buckets like some poorly-drawn cartoon character, the question marks floating in the air around my head while I try to prepare myself for the complete care and responsibility of another living being besides my cat. I'm responsible for making sure this little human doesn't grow up and turn into a complete monster. If the child turns out a social moron-- my fault. If the babe can't find Luxembourg on the map, blame me for not providing a better education. They'll need therapy, and of course that will be on my head too. So many opportunities for wrong turns!
I remember the day my father sat me down and awkwardly told me about the birds and the bees; it was perhaps the most excruciating and embarrassing half hour of both our lives. I can't do that to another human being.
Maybe I'm getting a little ahead of myself here. I can do this, I say; I'll be a great father. My child will be reared a well-rounded, educated, upstanding citizen of the world, and he or she won't hate me.
And then I imagine the baby, still safe within the confines of my wife's belly, suddenly opening an alarmed eye as the thought enters his or her mind: "What if my dad just can't hack it?

Source text - English Water Contamination
Water accounts for a major part of mechanical failures. In
some heavily water contaminated oil systems e.g. in the
paper industry, water is the predominant cause of failing
components.
Water reduces the lubricity of the oil, due to the lower
viscosity and poor load capacity of water. When water is
exposed to the high pressures found in load zones in e.g.
bearings and gears, the water droplets collapse (implode). The
resulting micro-jets create micro-pitting in metal surfaces and
can even result in metal-to-metal contact when water vapor
pushes the oil away momentarily.
Free hydrogen ions in the water can further worsen the
situation, since they migrate into machine components making
steel brittle and prone to crack.
Water also results in corrosion and erosion leading to pitting
damage (see figure 21 in appendix, page 34).
Furthermore, water acts as a catalyst for oil degradation,
speeding up the oils tendency to oxidize and form resins,
sludge and varnish.
Water can be found in oil as dissolved, emulsified or free
water. How much water a specific oil can dissolve or keep
suspended in emulsions depends on the base oil, additive
package, temperature and pressure. Some oils are designed
to keep large amounts of water in suspension e.g. engine lube
oils. In order to ensure long oil life and for optimum protection
of machine components it is recommended not to have
emulsified or free water in oil.
For a typical mineral based oil this means less than 100 ppm of
water (0.01%).

El agua es la responsable de la mayoría de las fallas mecánicas. En algunos sistemas de aceite altamente contaminados por agua, por ejemplo, en la industria del papel, el agua es la causa primordial de la falla de componentes.
El agua reduce la lubricidad del aceite, debido a la baja viscosidad y a la limitada capacidad de carga que tiene el agua. Cuando el agua es expuesta a las altas presiones que se encuentran en las zonas de carga, por ej. cojinetes y engranajes, las gotas de agua colapsan (implosionan). Los micro chorros crean micro picaduras sobre las superficies metálicas, pudiendo incluso provocar contacto de metal con metal, cuando el vapor del agua desplaza momentáneamente el aceite.
Los iones de hidrógenos libres en el agua pueden empeorar aún más la situación, ya que éstos migran hacia el interior de los componentes de la máquina haciendo que el acero se torne frágil y propenso a agrietarse.
El agua también produce corrosión y erosión ocasionando daños por picaduras (ver figura 21 en el apéndice, página 34).
Asimismo, el agua actúa como un catalizador para la degradación del aceite, acelerando la tendencia de los aceites a oxidarse y formar resinas, lodo y barniz.
El agua se puede encontrar en el aceite en forma disuelta, emulsionada o como agua libre. Cuánta agua es capaz de disolver o mantener suspendida en emulsiones, un aceite específico, depende del aceite base, el paquete de aditivos, la temperatura y la presión. Algunos aceites están diseñados para mantener grandes cantidades de agua en suspensión, por ejemplo aceites para la lubricación de motores. Para asegurar una larga vida del aceite y una óptima protección a los componentes de la máquina, se recomienda que el aceite no contenga agua ya sea emulsionada o libre.
Para un aceite de base mineral normal, esto significa menos de 100 ppm de agua (0,01%).
