Source text - English Token-Based Authentication
Token-based authentication, in which a token is used for authentication, is an alternative to password-based authentication. A token is a small device that generates a new value every time it is used. The size of a token can be compared to the size of key chains, calculators, or credit cards.
The authentication token is pre-programmed with a unique number called random seed or seed. The seed forms the basis for ensuring the uniqueness of the output produced by the token.
An authentication token automatically generates pseudo-random numbers called one-time passwords or one-time passcodes. One-time passwords are generated randomly by an authentication. They are one-time because they are generated, used once, and then discarded. When a user wants to be authenticated, the user enters the user ID and the latest one-time password obtained from the authentication token on the screen.
The user ID and the password travel to the server as a part of the logon request. The server obtains the seed corresponding to the user ID from the user database by using a seed-retrieval program. The server then calls another program called the password-validation program to which the server gives the seed and the one-time password. This program knows how to establish the relationship between the seed and the one-time password. For this, the program uses synchronization techniques to generate the same one-time password as generated by the authentication token.
A password or a 4-digit PIN protects the authentication token. Only when this PIN is entered can the one-time password be generated.

Аутентификация с использованием специальных маркеров является альтернативой аутентификации на основе паролей. Маркер – это небольшое устройство, создающее каждый раз новое значение. Размер маркера сравним с размером связки ключей, калькулятора или кредитной карты.
Для маркера аутентификации предварительно задается уникальное число, называемое случайным начальным значением или просто начальным значением.
Маркер аутентификации автоматически генерирует псевдослучайные числа, называемые одноразовыми паролями или секретными одноразовыми кодами. Одноразовые пароли создаются случайным образом в ходе аутентификации. Их название обусловлено тем, что после создания они используются только один раз, после чего аннулируются. Когда пользователю необходимо пройти аутентификацию, он вводит свой идентификатор и последний полученный от маркера аутентификации одноразовый пароль, отображенный на экране.
Идентификатор и пароль пользователя передаются серверу как часть запроса на вход. Сервер с помощью специального программного средства получает из базы данных пользователей начальное значение, соответствующее идентификатору пользователя. После чего сервер запускает еще одну программу, называемую средством проверки паролей, в которую передает это начальное значение и одноразовый пароль. В указанной программе используется механизм, который устанавливает соответствие между начальным значением и одноразовым паролем. С этой целью данная программа использует технологии синхронизации, чтобы создать точно такой же одноразовый пароль, который был создан маркером аутентификации.
Маркер аутентификации защищен паролем либо 4-значным цифровым PIN-кодом. Одноразовый пароль может быть создан только при вводе данного PIN-кода.
