English to Russian: Side effects of antipsychotic drugs
Detailed field: Medical (general)
Source text - English
Treatment with antipsychotics may have rare but serious side effects. Neuroleptic Malignant Syndrome (NMS) is severe muscle stiffness with fever, sweating, fast heartbeat, confusion, tiredness, loss of bladder control and difficulty swallowing. NMS is potentially fatal if not treated early.

Tardive dyskinesia is a form of involuntary unusual movements. In some cases, it can be permanent. It usually involves muscles in the tongue, mouth, lips, face, and occasionally neck. There is currently no known treatment for tardive dyskinesia, although the condition may improve or resolve completely if patients stop taking the drug.

Some antipsychotic drugs cause high levels of blood sugar that may be very serious or even fatal. These drugs may even cause diabetes mellitus, a permanent case of poor blood sugar control that sometimes requires drugs to treat.
