Bio
Native Speaker of English and Greek.
Have lived in the USA for 5 years, in the U.K. for 7 years and in Greece for 15 years.
Have completed undergraduate studies in the University of Wolverhampton on Linguistics and Spanish and obtained my postgraduate diploma on conference interpreting and translation from Heriot-Watt University in Edinburgh.
Currently working as a language teacher at a language learning centre in the U.K.
Have also attended college and university in the USA:
college of lake county, Greyslake, Il,USA (associates degree)
University of Illinois at Chicago (BA english literature and journalism), which credits were transfered to the university I attended in the U.K.
I am an associate member at a number of organizations for translators and have been practicing the profession for 2 years.
I have completed in 2006 my Bachelor degree with Honours on Linguistics and Spanish from the University of Wolverhampton and just last July I obtained my Postgraduate Diploma on Translation and Conference Interpreting from Heriot-Watt University in Edinburgh.
My undergraduate studies have equipped me with an in-depth understanding of languages’ formal, sociological and psychological perspectives. These have enormous significance in a wide range of fields. After developing the concepts and tools to analyse the forms of language, and to compare and contrast features of different languages and/or variants of languages, I can now focus on one or more specific applications of that knowledge, including teaching languages; translation between languages; language issues relating to global, multilingual and multicultural societies; communication between groups of different sociological, cultural and political backgrounds; computational techniques for processing language corpora and input.
On the other hand, my postgraduate studies have enhanced these skills and knowledge in cross-cultural communication and language translation. Most importantly, it has equipped me with the ability to use language at professional level and appropriately depending on the translation brief.
Last but not least, I have extensive knowledge on how computers process language, parse it and tag it. My education included modules such as:
language in translation, language in society, language and the computer, machine translation versus human translation, localization, computational linguistics, controlled languages, languages and the mind, language acquisition-interlanguage-language learning, semantics, pragmatics, cultural translation, specialised translation, practical workshops, editing-proofreading-summarising, europe:a web of institutions, feminist translation.
I have keen eye to detail, professionalism, ability to multi-task, work under pressure and meet deadlines. My work is reliable and trustworthy.
