Die Rente ist unter Berücksichtigung der Verordnungen (EWG) Nr 1408/71 und 574/72 festzustellen, weil neben Verischerungszeiten in der deutschen Rentenversicherung auch Versicherungszeiten in einem anderen EU-Mitgliedstaat zurückgelegt sind oder der Berechtigte sich in einem anderen EU-Mitgliedstaat außerhalb der Bundesrepublik Deutschland aufhält.
Mitteilungspflichten und Mitwirkungspflichten
Die im früheren Rentenbescheid genannten Mitteilungspflichten gelten nach wie vor. Deshalb sind uns Umstände, die den Leistungsanspruch oder die Höhe der Leistung beeinflussen können, umgehend mitzuteilen.
Über diesen Zeitpunkt hinaus wird diese Leistung auf Antrag längstens bis zur Vollendung des 27. Lebensjahres für eine Waise gewährt, die sich in Schul- oder Berufsausbildung befindet oder ein freiwilliges soziales Jahr im Sinne des Gesetzes zur Förderung eines freiwilligen soziales Jahres leistet oder wegen körperlicher, geistiger oder seelischer Behinderung außerstande ist, sich selbst zu unterhalten.
Wird die Schul- oder Berufsausbildung der Waise durch gesetzlichen Wehrdienst, Zivildienst oder einen gleichsgestellten Dienst unterbrochen oder verzögert, so erhöht sich die für den Anspruch auf Waisenrente maßgebende Altersbegrenzung um die Zeit dieser Dienstleistung, höchstens jedoch um einen der Dauer des gesetzlichen Wehrdienstes oder Zivildienstes entsprechenden Zeitraum.
Bei einer Weitergewährung der Waisenrente über das 18. Lebensjahr hinaus können sich die Einkommensverhältnisse der Waise auf die Rentenhöhe auswirken.
Sollte bereits ein Antrag auf Weitergewährung der Rente gestellt worden sein, ist ein weiterer Antrag nicht erforderlich.
Wir behalten uns vor, überzahlte Beträge zurückzufordern, wenn der Mitteilungspflicht nicht genügt werden sollte.

Applicazione di direttive supernazionali e internazionali in materia di diritto alla pensione estera
La pensione viene determinata tenendo conto dei decreti (CEE) n° 1408/71 e 574/72, perché vengono cumulati non solo i periodi assicurativi dell’assicurazione pensionistica tedesca, ma anche quelli relativi ad un altro stato membro dell’Unione Europea oppure perché l’avente diritto dimora in un altro stato membro dell’Unione Europea che non sia la Repubblica Federale Tedesca.
Obblighi di notifica e cooperazione
Gli obblighi di notifica citati nella precedente informativa sulla pensione sono sempre validi, perciò devono essere comunicate immediatamente le circostanze che possono avere effetti sul diritto al contributo o sull’ammontare dello stesso.
Oltre questo termine il contributo viene garantito su approvazione al massimo fino al compimento del ventisettesimo anno di età nel caso di orfani che stiano facendo il proprio percorso formativo scolastico o professionale, un anno di volontariato sociale ai sensi della legge per l’incentivazione della prestazione annuale di volontariato sociale o che siano impossibilitati al proprio sostentamento a causa di invalidità fisica, mentale o psichica.
Nel caso in cui il corso di formazione scolastica o professionale dell’orfano venga interrotto o ritardato a causa del servizio militare o civile, o per un servizio equiparato, il limite di età valido per poter chiedere la pensione per gli orfani aumenta del periodo di tempo di questo servizio fino al massimo della durata del servizio militare o civile come prevista dalla legge.
Nell’eventualità di un’ulteriore concessione della pensione per gli orfani oltre il diciottesimo anno di età le condizioni di reddito dell’orfano possono influire sull’ammontare della pensione.
Nel caso fosse già stata presentata una domanda di ulteriore concessione della pensione non è necessaria un’altra domanda.
Ci riserviamo di reclamare gli importi pagati in eccesso se l’obbligo di notifica non dovesse essere soddisfatto.

Thank you for your considered purchase of a "xxx" vacuum tube amplifier. In it, you have acquired one of the finest pieces of music reproduction equipment available today. You will find your amplifier capable of reproducing with great accuracy the dynamics, tonalities and textures of a live musical performance. The design and materials have been carefully selected to assure enduring excellence.
Please take a few minutes to read this manual so that you will better understand the features and capabilities of your "xxx" amplifier.
ABOUT "xxx"
We are a small company offering exclusively audiophile products designed for our own use as well as our customers'. We believe that our commitment to the purchaser of our products is nearly unique in the industry. The services we offer to "xxx" owners include:
Information – Registered owners of "xxx" equipment will be directly informed of new equipment we have to offer. They will also be informed or any significant changes in the design of their equipment resulting from our ongoing development program.
Factory updating – Should significant design changes be made, "xxx" will, whenever practical, offer to update existing equipment. This service will be offered at a reasonable charge to cover parts, labor, and handling.
Factory service – Any "xxx" product may be returned to the factory for service. All equipment serviced at the factory will perform to its published specifications when returned. Factory service will be offered at reasonable rates.
Transferable warranty – "xxx" guarantees its products, not the owner. Should you decide to sell the product, the warranty may be transferred to the new owner. (See Registering the warranty).
REGISTERING THE WARRANTY
Please return the enclosed card to the factory within 30 days of purchase to register the warranty. The warranty may be transferred to a new owner if it has been properly registered initially and if the registered owner sends a signed notice providing the name and address of the new owner and the model and serial number of the unit.
Proper registration to the warranty is important! Not only will it preserve transferability or your warranty, it will also enable us to inform you of any alterations in the design of a given model and of any new products we offer which are likely to be of interest to you.
CIRCUIT DESIGN
It has been our experience that simple designs with few active stages when executed with care and great attention to detail will be both more musical and more reliable than overcomplicated alternatives. Accordingly, the audio circuit of the "xxx" amplifier is remarkably straight-forward. A single triode input amplifier is direct coupled to a cathode follower which in turn is direct coupled to a cathode coupled differential phase inverter made up of high current triodes to provide balanced, low impedance drive to the push-pull output stage. This stage features ultralinear operation which permits high power levels while greatly reducing the source impedance of the stage. As a result, the amplifier is capable of supplying the large current demands of high amplitude musical transients driven into reactive speaker loads. Substantial main power supplies enable the "xxx" amplifiers to meet these extraordinary current demands. Separate voltage regulators for the voltage amplifiers and phase inverters provide nearly absolute isolation of these sensitive stages from the output stage.
INASTALLATION
Vacuum tube amplifiers dissipates considerable heat. It is essential, therefore, that proper attention be paid to ventilation. The unit should be mounted horizontally on a flat hard surface. At least four inches of clearance should be provided above the unit, and at least three inches on the sides. The cabinet or shelf should be open at both front and back. For more restricted installations, cooling fans are essential.
To minimize hum pickup, keep the unit well away from the preamplifier and turntable and route power cords away from input cables.

CONNECTION
Input:
Connect the left and right outputs from the preamplifier to the amplifier inputs for Channel A and Channel B
Output:
The speaker wires will be connected to the amplifier's output terminals with one wire connected to the screw terminal marked C and the other to the 4, 8, or 16 ohm screw terminal. Proper connection of the speakers is critical for achieving optimum performance. There are three criteria for correct connection:
1. Correct Relative Phase: The two channels must be wired in phase. This means that when the same signal is applied to both channels, the right and left channel speaker diaphragms should move synchronously- in and out together.
Terminals on the speakers are usually coded – one designated “C”, “earth”, “ground”, “-” or black, the other designated “ ” or red.
“In phase” connection of the speakers can normally be achieved by taking care to connect the wire from the amplifier terminal marked C on each channel to the same coded terminal on each speaker.
In phase connection of the speakers can be readily ascertained by ear. With the preamplifier mode switch in the MONO position, play a record of a solo vocalist. With the speakers in phase the voice should be clearly focused between the two speakers. With the speakers connected out of phase, the voice will be diffused, with no identifiable source. Relative phase may be reversed by switching the “ ” and “-” leads at one speaker only.
2. Correct Absolute Phase: Musical transients are positive going – that is they first create a pressure front in the surrounding air. It is important that your stereo system reproduces transients in the same way since the ear can distinguish between positive and negative transients. This means that on a transient the speaker diaphragms should first move toward the listener – creating a pressure front.
Each component in your system is either phase correct (non-inverting) or phase inverting. If you know the phase of each component in your system (your "xxx" is phase correct) then correct absolute phase is obtained by the following simple rule:
THE TOTAL NUMBER OF PHASE INVERSIONS IN THE SIGNAL PATH SHOULD BE EVEN.
If the number of phase inverting components is either none, or even, then simply wire the speakers in a phase correct manner (amplifier C to speaker “-”, amplifier 4, 8 or 16 to speaker “ ”)
If the number of phase inverting components is odd, then one more inversion should be added. This may either be accomplished at the speaker by wiring amplifier C to speaker “ ” and 4, 8 or 16 to speaker “-” or by reversing the positive and ground leads of the cartridge. The latter method is preferable if one inversion occurs in either your pre-preamplifier (the HV-1 is inverting) or in your preamplifier phono stage (but not both). Making the correction at the cartridge will then permit phase correct tape recording and playback.
If you do not know the phase of each component in your system, try listening with your speakers hooked up both ways. When correctly phased, plucked strings and other sharp transients will sound noticeably better defined.
3. Impedance Matching – Matching the rated nominal impedance of your speakers with the amplifier output taps will not necessarily guarantee optimum performance. The sound with a given set of speakers will vary with the different impedance taps. We suggest listening to each of the three taps to select the best match for your speakers.
The "xxx" amplifier uses eight vacuum tubes of three different types. Each type has been carefully chosen for its circuit application. It is well known that tubes of a given type vary sonically depending on the manufacturer. We have chosen the brands of tubes that we supply based on extensive auditioning of available brands. The choice of brand has been made solely on the basis of sonic performance and reliability without regard of any cost or prestige. We know of no vacuum tubes available which will improve the sonic performance of your "xxx" amplifier. Also, the tubes in your amplifier have been tempered by a controlled burn in procedure that permits them to perform for a greatly extended period without sonic degradation. We anticipate one to two years of operation without degradation in normal use. We highly recommend that, when the time comes to replace the vacuum tubes, you purchase replacement tube sets from "xxx".
These amplifiers have been designed to make tube replacement as simple as possible. Because the output tubes are individually biased, replacement tubes need not be matched pairs. No a-c balance adjustment is necessary, It is necessary to re-bias the amplifier when the output tubes are replaced. Your amplifier has built in bias indicators so that no instruments are required to make this adjustment.
ADJUSTING OUTPUT TUBE BIAS
Biasing the amplifier is a simple procedure that can readily be done by the owner. Only a screwdriver is required. After replacing the tubes, the amplifier should be connected to a load (your loudspeakers will work fine) and there should be no signal applied to the amp. It should be connected to your preamplifier with the volume control fully down. Turn amplifier on. After about one minute, turn each of the four screwdriver adjustable controls (marked with a “p” in the diagram) counterclockwise until the associated indicator LED just goes off. Clockwise rotation may be necessary first to turn the LED on; do not turn the adjusting screw any further in the clockwise direction once the LED has come one.
After the amplifier has warmed up for thirty minutes, the procedure just described should be repeated.
NOTE: It is normal for these LEDs to flash or flicker when the amplifier is in use. This is normal and no cause for alarm.
This biasing procedure should be performed whenever the amplifier's output tubes are replaced and also after each six months of average use.
Line Fuse: The AC line is fused to protect the power transformer. This fuse will not fail in normal operation. Failure of the fuse is a symptom of a more serious problem., so the unite should be taken to a qualified service center. IN NO EVENT SHOULD THE FUSE BE REPLACED WITH A FUSE OF DIFFERENT TYPE OR RATING THAN THAT SUPPPLIED BY THE FACTORY.
Plate Fuse: Your "xxx" amplifier has been fitted with plate supply fuses which are designed to protect the amplifier circuitry in the event of output tube failure. The fuse holders are physically located near the speaker connectors. The cap unscrews counter-clockwise to remove the fuse (a Buss BBS1). An LED near the fuse holder will light when the fuse is blown.
What happens when the fuse blows? If a fuse should blow, it usually indicates a marginal EL34 (one of two for each channel) and an attempt should be made to identify and replace it, by either (a) replacing the fuse and turning on the amp while watching the EL34s carefully; if a bright white or blue flash is seen from inside the tube, you've got the culprit. If nothing happens, then (b) lightly tap the EL34s one by one with the plastic handle of a screwdriver while watching for flashes inside the tube. If all efforts to identify the tube fail, the best course of action is to replace both tubes in the channel that blew the fuse. If the tubes are over 2 years old or have 2,000 hours on them, a complete replacement tube set is probably in order.
The sonic effects of a blown fuse are very low, very distorted sound from the speaker being driven by the channel.
TO AVOID SHOCK, ALWAYS TURN OFF THE AMPLIFIER BEFORE REMOVING THE FUSE HOLDER CAP.

To ship the "xxx", start by removing the protective cover. Next, remove and separately box the tubes in their individual boxes. Pack the boxed tubes in tube carton, reinstall the cover over the tube carton and box the amp in its original factory carton and packing materials.

TECNOLOGIA DEL CIRCUITO
La nostra esperienza ci ha insegnato che design semplici con pochi stadi attivi, se realizzati con cura e molta attenzione ai dettagli danno risultati sia più musicali che più attendibili rispetto ad alternative complesse. Per questo motivo il circuito audio dell’amplificatore "xxx" è notevolmente semplice. Un amplificatore di ingresso a singolo triodo è accoppiato direttamente con un inseguitore di catodo che a sua volta è accoppiato a uno stadio invertitore di fase accoppiato a catodo in configurazione differenziale costituito da triodi ad alta corrente che fornisce un pilotaggio bilanciato a bassa impedenza allo stadio di uscita push-pull1. Questo stadio è caratterizzato da un funzionamento ultralineare che consente alti livelli di potenza e allo stesso tempo riduce enormemente l'impedenza della sorgente dello stadio. Il risultato è che l'amplificatore è in grado di soddisfare l'alta richiesta di corrente dei transienti musicali di una certa ampiezza pilotati nei carichi reattivi degli altoparlanti. I robusti alimentatori permettono agli amplificatori "xxx" di soddisfare questa notevole richiesta di corrente. Regolatori di tensione separati per gli amplificatori di tensione e gli invertitori di fase garantiscono un isolamento pressoché assoluto di questi stadi sensibili dallo stadio di uscita.
INSTALLAZIONE
I finali di potenza a valvole dissipano notevole quantità di calore, pertanto è fondamentale prestare particolare attenzione alla ventilazione. Il finale deve essere posizionato orizzontalmente su una superficie piana solida. Fate in modo che ci siano almeno quattro pollici di spazio al di sopra del finale e tre ai lati. Il mobiletto o la mensola dovrebbero essere aperte sia davanti che dietro. Per installazioni in spazi più limitati sono essenziali delle ventole di raffreddamento.
Per ridurre al minimo la captazione di ronzio, tenete il finale ben separato dal pre-amplificatore e dal giradischi e fate passare i cavi di alimentazione lontano da quelli di ingresso.
IL FINALE "xxx" FUNZIONA SU CORRENTE ALTERNATA CON TENSIONE DA 108 A 125 VOLT.
(Disponibile anche per tensioni da 100 volt o 230 volt, 50/60 Hz).
COLLEGAMENTO
Ingresso: Collegate le uscite destra e sinistra dal preamplificatore agli ingressi dell’amplificatore per il Canale A e il Canale B
Uscita: I fili dei diffusori verranno collegati ai terminali di uscita dell’amplificatore: un filo verrà collegato al terminale a vite contrassegnato con la lettera C e l’altro al terminale a vite da 4, 8 o 16 ohm. Il giusto collegamento agli altoparlanti è un punto critico per il raggiungimento di ottime prestazioni. Esistono tre regole per un collegamento corretto:
1. Correttezza della fase relativa: i due canali devono essere collegati in fase. Ciò significa che quando entrambi i canali ricevono lo stesso segnale, i diaframmi dei diffusori dei canali destro e sinistro dovrebbero muoversi in maniera sincronica (in e out insieme). I terminali dei diffusori sono di norma contrassegnati (uno è contrassegnato con “C”, “terra”, “massa”2, “-” oppure in colore nero, l'altro con “ ” oppure in colore rosso). Il collegamento dei diffusori “in fase” si ottiene di norma collegando il cavo dal terminale dell'amplificatore contrassegnato con “C” su ciascun canale contrassegnato nello stesso modo di ciascun diffusore. Il collegamento dei diffusori in fase può essere facilmente verificato con l'ascolto. Posizionate su MONO il comando mode del pre-amplificatore e ascoltate una registrazione di un vocalist solista. Se i diffusori sono “in fase” la voce dovrebbe convergere in maniera distinta su un punto intermedio tra i due diffusori. Se i diffusori sono fuori fase la voce risulterà diffusa, come proveniente da una sorgente non identificabile. La fase relativa può essere invertita spostando i cavi “ ” e “-” su un diffusore solo.
2. Correttezza della fase assoluta: i transienti musicali sono positivi, ossia essi creano inizialmente un fronte di pressione nello spazio circostante. E' importante che il Vostro sistema stereo riproduca i transienti nello stesso modo perché l'orecchio è in grado di distinguere fra transienti positivi e negativi. Ciò significa che su un transiente i diaframmi dei diffusori dovrebbero muoversi prima verso l'ascoltatore creando un fronte di pressione.
Ciascun componente del Vostro sistema è o non-invertente o invertente. Conoscendo la fase di ciascun componente del Vostro sistema (l'"xxx" è non invertente) è possibile ottenere la correttezza della fase assoluta seguendo la seguente semplice regola:
IL TOTALE DELLE INVERSIONI DI FASE NEL PERCORSO DEL SEGNALE DEVE ESSERE UN NUMERO PARI.
Se il numero dei componenti invertenti è nullo o pari collegate semplicemente i diffusori in fase (C dell'amplificatore a “-” del diffusore, 4, 8 o 16 dell'amplificatore a “ ” del diffusore).
Se il numero dei componenti invertenti è dispari si dovrebbe aggiungere un'altra inversione. Ciò si può fare in due modi: sul diffusore, collegando il C dell'amplificatore al “ ” del diffusore e il 4, 8 o 16 dell'amplificatore al “-” del diffusore, oppure invertendo i cavi positivo e di massa della testina. Il secondo metodo è preferibile nel caso in cui ci sia un'inversione nel Vostro pre-amplificatore (l'HV-1 è invertente) oppure nello stadio fono di preamplificazione (ma non in entrambi). Applicare la correzione alla testina permetterà poi la registrazione e la riproduzione non invertenti di nastri.
Se non conoscete la fase di ciascun componente del Vostro sistema fate una prova di ascolto con i diffusori collegati in entrambi i modi. Quando la fase è corretta le corde pizzicate ed altri transienti troppo alti avranno un suono notevolmente più definito.
3. Adattamento dell’impedenza: adattare l’impedenza nominale dei Vostri diffusori con le uscite dell’amplificatore non garantirà necessariamente un rendimento ottimale. Il suono con un dato set di diffusori varierà con uscite di diversa impedenza. Suggeriamo di effettuare prove di ascolto con le tre uscite per scegliere il migliore adattamento ai Vostri diffusori.

SOSTITUZIONE DELLE VALVOLE
L’"xxx" utilizza otto valvole termoioniche di tre tipi diversi. Ciascuna tipologia è stata accuratamente selezionata per la sua applicazione al circuito. E’ cosa ben nota che valvole di un determinato tipo variano dal punto di vista sonoro a seconda del produttore. I marchi di valvole da noi utilizzate sono stati selezionati sulla base di un’approfondita audizione dei marchi disponibili. La scelta del marchio è stata effettuata esclusivamente sulla base delle prestazioni sonore e dell’affidabilità senza tenere in considerazione né il costo né il prestigio. Non siamo a conoscenza della presenza nel mercato di valvole termoioniche che possano migliorare le prestazioni del Vostro finale di potenza conrad-johnson. Le valvole del Vostro amplificatore sono state inoltre temprate attraverso un rodaggio controllato che permette loro di funzionare per un periodo enormemente più lungo senza alterazioni delle prestazioni sonore. Facendone un normale utilizzo prevediamo che le valvole funzionino per uno o due anni senza che si deteriorino. Al momento di sostituirle raccomandiamo caldamente di acquistare le valvole dalla "xxx".
Questi amplificatori sono stati progettati in modo da rendere il più semplice possibile la sostituzione delle valvole. Poiché il bias di ciascuna valvole di uscita è regolato singolarmente, le valvole sostitutive non devono necessariamente essere in coppie abbinate. Non è necessario alcun bilanciamento della corrente alternata. Una volta che le valvole di uscita siano state sostituite occorre regolare nuovamente il bias dell'amplificatore. Nel Vostro amplificatore sono incorporati degli indicatori di bias, pertanto non è necessario alcuno strumento per effettuare questa regolazione.
REGOLAZIONE DEL BIAS DELLA VALVOLA DI USCITA
La regolazione del bias dell’amplificatore è un'operazione semplice che può essere eseguita senza difficoltà dal proprietario: è necessario solo un cacciavite. Dopo aver sostituito le valvole, l'amplificatore dovrebbe essere collegato ad un carico (i Vostri diffusori andranno benissimo) e l'amplificatore non dovrebbe ricevere alcun segnale. L'amplificatore dovrebbe essere collegato al Vostro preamplificatore con il volume completamente abbassato. Accendete l'amplificatore. Dopo circa un minuto girate in senso antiorario col cacciavite ciascuno dei quattro regolatori registrabili (contrassegnati da una “p” nel diagramma) fino a che il LED corrispondente si spegne. All'inizio potrebbe essere necessaria la rotazione in senso orario per accendere il LED, una volta acceso, non continuate a girare in senso orario la vite di regolazione.
Dopo aver fatto scaldare l'amplificatore per circa trenta minuti, l'operazione appena descritta dovrebbe essere ripetuta .
N.B.: è normale che questi LED lampeggino o emettano luci tremolanti durante l'utilizzo dell'amplificatore, ciò non deve causare allarme.
La regolazione del bias dovrebbe essere effettuata ogni qualvolta si sostituiscano le valvole di uscita dell'amplificatore e anche ogni sei mesi di normale utilizzo dello stesso.
Fusibile della linea elettrica: Il cavo di corrente alternata è dotato di fusibile in modo da proteggere il trasformatore di potenza. Durante il normale funzionamento questo fusibile non si rompe, un suo guasto è sintomo di un problema più serio, perciò è consigliabile portare l’amplificatore in un centro di assistenza qualificato. IL FUSIBILE NON DEVE ESSERE SOSTITUITO IN NESSUN CASO DA UN FUSIBILE DI TIPO O VALORE NOMINALE DIVERSO DA QUELLO FORNITO DAL NOSTRO STABILIMENTO DI PRODUZIONE.
Fusibile anodico: L’amplificatore "xxx" è dotato di fusibili anodici di scorta progettati per la protezione della circuiteria dell’amplificatore in caso di guasto alla valvola di uscita. I portafusibili sono fisicamente collocati vicino ai connettori dei diffusori. Il cappuccio si svita in senso antiorario per la rimozione del fusibile (un Buss BBS1). Quando il fusibile è saltato si illumina un LED a fianco al portafusibili.
Cosa succede quando il fusibile salta? Se il fusibile salta, normalmente il riferimento è a una EL34 (una delle due per ciascun canale) e sarebbe opportuno provare a identificarla e a sostituirla in uno dei seguenti modi: (a) sostituite il fusibile e accendete l'amplificatore osservando attentamente la EL34, se si intravede un bagliore bianco e luminoso oppure blu provenire dall'interno della valvola avete individuato il colpevole. Se non succede niente passate al metodo (b): picchiettate leggermente ad una ad una le EL34 utilizzando il manico in plastica del cacciavite e osservate se provengono dei bagliori da una delle valvole. Se tutti gli sforzi per individuare la valvola falliscono, la miglior cosa da fare è di sostituire entrambe le valvole del canale che fa saltare il fusibile. Se le valvole hanno più di due anni o 2.000 ore di lavoro è probabile che sia necessario sostituire tutte le valvole.
Gli effetti sonori di un fusibile saltato sono bassi poiché attraverso quel canale provengono suoni molto distorti dal diffusore.

Introduction
The "xxx"TM "xxx" stereo amplifier embodies the design
technology and refinements of the “X” series amplifiers including exten-
sions of the patented "xxx"TM circuit. Additionally selected
refinements of the "xxx" series amplifiers have been incorporated into the "xxx" to significantly improve this products sonic performance in comparison to it’s immediate predecessor, the "xxx"TM "xxx".
The "xxx"TM circuit topology was granted a U.S. patent in 1994,
and was the result of 19 years of effort by legendary analog designer and company founder "xxx". The amplifier uses highly matched com-
ponents in a classically simple single ended Class A circuit. The amplifier contains only two simple stages: the first is a balanced Class A gain stage.
Its output drives a bank of high power devices operated as followers.
These are inherently low distortion types of circuits, but their performance is improved when operated balanced. Distortion and noise identical to both halves of a balanced circuit will disappear at the output, and in a well-matched symmetric circuit, most of the distortion and noise is identical.
"xxx" TM enhances this effect by providing a connection between the two halves of the balanced circuit that further perfects this match. Any distortion and noise not already identical to the two halves is
made more identical by a factor of about 10, and the result is improved
noise cancellation at the output of the amplifier.
Unlike feedback techniques where the goal is to correct for the distortion by feeding a gain stage an inversely distorted signal, "xxx" TM
seeks merely to create perfect matching.
Matched balanced power circuitry typically sees a distortion and noise
reduction of about 90% (20 dB) through a balanced connection without
any additional effort. The "xxx"TM circuit delivers another
90% reduction, so that the X series has about 1/100 of the distortion of
a conventionally simple amplifier. Distortion and noise can still be seen
at the output of one half of the circuit, but since it is virtually identical
on the other half, it goes away at the speaker terminals. This gives good measured performance, which because a simple circuit produces it, also sounds excellent.
Previously these kinds of simple Class A circuits have been popular for
their sound quality in low power amplifiers, but have not found application at high power levels due to excessive distortion and low efficiency.
"xxx"TM overcomes this barrier, delivering the sweetness, staging, and detail of very simple circuitry up to kilowatt power levels and beyond.
The "xxx" Series amplifiers have the tremendous dynamic range (>140
dB) to do justice to the high-resolution digital recordings of the 21st
Century and the elegance to retrieve the micro dynamics offered by
the most sensitive loudspeakers. The simple but powerful circuitry
moves easily from total silence to explosive transient and back to
silence without a trace and without information loss. Very unlike
conventional high power amplifiers, they provide this level of power
with a subtlety befitting some of the better tube amplifiers. This performance is consistence across the audio spectrum and the amplifiers are unconditionally stable into all speaker loads.

Setup
You can position this amplifier most anywhere you wish, but it requires adequate ventilation. We do not recommend placing it in enclosed cabinets or small closets without means for air to circulate freely. Stacking these power amplifiers directly upon each other is not
recommended for the same reason. This amplifier typically idles at
slightly more than 250 watts, most of which dissipates as heat across
the heatsinks. As a point of reference, these heatsinks should never
become too hot to touch for several seconds.
Let’s talk about AC power requirements. This amplifier draws about
2 amps (continuous rms) at 120 volts out of the wall during normal
operation, and this power draw reflects mostly the idle current that
we run through the output stage. If you are driving a low impedance
load, you will draw more power than this, but this will not be typical.
The amplifier’s voltage and current rating are indicated on the rear
panel. It will be 240 volts, 220 volts, 120 volts or 100 volts, all with
an appropriate rear mounted replaceable type 3AG slow blow fuse.
For units rated at either 220 or 240 volts the fuse will be a 2-1/2 amp
type 3AG, 250V slow blow and for units rated at either 100 or 120
volts the fuse will be a 5 amp type 3AG, slow blow. Do not substitute
other types, voltage, amperage or time constant fuses for the specified
replacement.
The frequency rating of the AC line source in all instances will be 50 to
60 Hz. Please verify that the amplifiers indicated voltage requirements
are consistent with the line voltage supplied at your location.
The "xxx"TM "xxx" is provided with a conventional IEC
detachable AC line cord, which is rated at 15 amps. The safety ground
is attached to the chassis in the conventional approved manner. The
AC power input to the amplifier runs through a RF filter, which re-
moves high frequency noise coming into and going out of the amplifier power supply.
Under no circumstances should you defeat the ground connection of
the power cord. For your safety, the chassis of the amplifier should be
earth grounded. Signal ground is isolated from chassis, safety ground,
to reduce the incidence of ground loop noise. The presence of a
safety ground will not degrade the audio signal chain.
You may substitute an aftermarket detachable IEC 320 style power
cord of your choosing; provided it is rated for at least 15 amps and it
meets all legal requirements and has been approved by the local testing authority for such things.
Looking at the rear panel you will see the IEC 320 AC power cord
receptacle, a mains power switch, two pairs of output connectors, a
pair of binding post connectors for remote turn-on, two RCA input
connector and two XLR balanced input connectors.
Make sure that the mains power switch is off (down). Plug the AC
cord into the back of the amplifier, and then into the wall. Then turn
the breaker switch on (up). The lights in your house may blink when
the power supply charges the capacitors; this is normal. This mains
power switch is not to be used as a safety disconnect during servicing
and is not a substitute for unplugging the power cord.
On the front panel, the “Standby” LED indicator should be glowing
blue, indicating that the power is on. The “Power” LED should not
be on. If the “Power” LED is on, don’t get excited, just use the front
panel stand-by button to go into stand-by mode, with the “Standby”
LED on and the “Power “ LED off.
OK, so the amplifier is sitting there in stand-by mode with just the
single blue LED lit. No speaker connected, as yet. You can go ahead
and connect the source and speakers. Some speaker cables are very
difficult to work with due to physical size and construction, make sure
the speaker connections do not short together. It is recommended
that you connect the speaker ends of these cables first.
Some powered subwoofers require an audio signal ground reference
and their makers may suggest that a black speaker terminal is where
this voltage reference might be found. On complementary designs,
which would be typical of all power amps produced by "xxx" TM, this is an incorrect and unsafe assumption. On all "xxx" TM power amplifiers a reference of 0 volts will be found only at pin 1 of the XLR input or at the shell of the RCA input.
Reference connections for these devices require special consideration
when used with our product. If you have such a device, and wish to
use it with our product, please contact our "xxx" factory for specific instructions.... you have been warned.

The amplifier can be driven single-end or balanced, if driving the amplifier single-ended, leave the supplied jumper in place (between pins 1 & 3 on the XLR). Your amplifier will operate without the jumper in
place, but performance will be significantly diminished.
Now that the source component is connected, make sure there is no
signal coming from it, probably by turning the volume all the way
down. With the speakers connected, push the front panel button to
activate the amplifier. The “Power” LED will come on.
You are ready to play music
Do everybody a favor and try not to have shorted output cables. It
happens accidentally all the time, and the amplifier is designed to survive, mostly.
Of course it’s always possible that something could go wrong. If so,
don’t get excited, just relax. It’s really aggravating when something like
this doesn’t work, we understand, but it will get fixed. We go to a lot
of trouble to make products reliable, and the failure rate of our amplifiers is very low. This is small comfort to the few, but take it easy and give us a call if you have problems.
People are often interested in how long it takes for these amplifiers
to break in. Perhaps a more salient question is how long does it take
them to reach their sonic best after turn on. It takes about an hour for
them to fully warm up, and this is where we adjust them first. Then
we adjust them again and again over a couple of days, keeping the bias and offset in the sweet spot. Our environment is about 23 degrees
Centigrade and the heat sinks will rise approximately 25 degrees C.
above that, for an average on heat sink temperature of 48 degrees C.
Sonically they are at their best when the heatsinks are approximately
50 degrees C.
In your setup the temperature may vary a bit due to line voltage variations and ventilation, but this is not a big deal. You should be able to put your hands on the heat sinks without discomfort for 10 seconds
or so. It is normal for the heasink temperature to vary side-to-side and
front to back.
The amplifier has a thermal cutout that will disconnect AC power if
the temperature exceeds 75 degrees Centigrade. This should never
occur in real life.
More things to know
You can remotely operate the stand-by mode by applying 12 volts DC
to the single pair of binding post connectors on the rear of the amplifier. The positive of the 12 volts DC goes to the red connector. This
connection has an actual operating range of about 9 volts to 15 volts
at a current draw of approximately 5.0mA. This switching will override the front panel button, so if you want the front panel button to
operate, leave the rear connection open.
So much for the most essential information.
Speaker Interface
The "xxx"TM "xxx" is optimized for loads nominally rated at 4 ohms and above. You can run the amplifiers into a lower nominal impedance without difficulty, and we are not aware of a speaker on the
market that presents unusual difficulty with these amplifiers.
The X.5 series amplifiers do not care particularly about the reactivity of
the load. Reactive loads typically will have slightly less distortion at a
given voltage/current level than resistive loads, but will make the amplifier run a little hotter. The"xxx" circuit was designed to be quite happy driving electrostatic and other difficult speakers.
When driving transformer-coupled loads directly, as in some electrostatic and ribbon designs, some attention must be paid to the DC character of the situation. If the transformer primary is being driven raw with no protection from DC and your source has DC voltage, or in cases where the small offset of the power amplifier is still too much, you may create distortion in the transformer and get less than optimal performance from it. Generally this is not the case with transformer-coupled loudspeakers, but it does occasionally surface. In these cases, take special care that the source does not contain a differential DC component, and confirm the differential DC offset of the pre-amplifier is sufficiently low. This differential voltage is easily adjusted by a qualified technician armed with the appropriate service documents.
Interconnects and Speaker Cables
We have a general recommendation about interconnects, which is that
they should cost less than the amplifier, and be flexible enough to work
with. We have tried a lot of products and most of them work well, but
as a practical matter we cannot make blanket recommendations.
The amplifier is not sensitive to source interconnects or ground loops.
It is also not sensitive to radio frequency pickup, which allows some
flexibility in choosing source interconnects without shields, though
shields are always in good taste.
We prefer speaker cables that are thick and short. Silver and copper are
the preferred metals. If you find any cable made of gold, please gift us
a couple hundred meters.
Fortunately the amplifier is not sensitive to the capacitive/inductive
character of some of the specialty speaker cables, so feel free to experiment.
We have found that about 90 per cent of bad sounding cables are in
reality bad sounding connections, and we recommend that special attention be paid to cleanliness of contact surfaces and proper fit.
Speaker cables should be firmly tightened down at the speaker output
terminals, but do not use a wrench. These connectors will not with-
stand unrealistic foot-lbs of torque. Hand tightening without excessive force is plenty.
Hardware Facts
So how long will this hardware last? It is our experience that, barring
abuse or the odd failure of a component, the first things to go will be
the power supply capacitors, and from experience, they will last 15 to
20 years before needing replacement. Fortunately these components
die gracefully; typically with years of warning and are easily replaced.
After that, the longevity will depend on the number of operating thermal cycles, but we can attest to having had amplifiers operating in the
field in excess of 20 years with no particular mortality except capacitors. We don’t have good information beyond that. More to the point,
we would suggest that you not worry about it. This is a conservatively
built industrial design, not a tweaky tube circuit run on the brink of
failure. If it breaks, we will simply get it fixed, so sleep well.

Water and moisture: Electrical devices should not be used near water (
as per example, near a bathtub, washbasin, kitchen sink, laundry tub, wet basement or swimming pool ). Care should be taken such that objects do not have the opportunity to fall, and that liquid is never spilled onto or into the device enclosure through openings.
Power Sources: An electrical device must be connected to a mains
power source in strict accordance with the supplied product owner’s
manual. Please verify that the AC mains voltage specified in the product
manual matches those requirements indicated on the unit and the AC
voltage provided to your location by the power company.
Grounding: Adequate precautions should be taken so that the
grounding provisions built into an electrical product are never defeated.
Power Cords: Pass Laboratories provides a power supply cord that
meets all legislated requirements for the market in which the product was originally sold. If you choose to substitute an after-market product we urge you to choose one that is fully safety rated by the necessary local authority.
Power Cord Protection: Power supply cords should be routed so that
they are not likely to be walked on, abraded, or pinched by items placed
on or against them, paying particular attention to cords where they enter
plugs or exit from a device. Never under any circumstance insert a cut or damaged power cord into a mains power socket.
Power and Signal: Cables should never be connected / disconnected
with equipment powered up. Failure to heed this warning may damage or destroy equipment.
Ventilation: Power-amplifiers run hot, but you should be able to place
your hands on them without discomfort. You must allow for this heat
in installation, by providing for free air circulation around the product.
Electronics should not be subjected to sources of excessive radiant heat.
Excessive heat can shorten the life of the product and may cause the
electronics to self-protect and shut down.
Servicing: To reduce the risk of fire, electrical shock or other injuries,
the user should not attempt to service the device beyond that which
is described in the operating instructions. All other servicing must be
referred to qualified service personnel.
For Units With Externally Accessible Fuse Receptacle: Unplug
the device from all sources of power before changing or inspecting any
fuse. Replace fuse with one of same physical size, type and rating as that specified by the manufacturer for that product.

Diversamente dalle tecniche di controreazione, nelle quali l'obiettivo è di correggere la distorsione alimentando uno stadio di guadagno con un segnale distorto in maniera inversa, "xxx"™ cerca solamente di creare l'accoppiamento perfetto.
Attraverso la sola connessione bilanciata i circuiti bilanciati e accoppiati generalmente raggiungono una riduzione della distorsione e del rumore del 90% (20dB). Il circuito "xxx"™ aggiunge un altro 90% di riduzione, pertanto la serie X presenta 1/100 di distorsione rispetto a un normale amplificatore semplice. E' possibile che distorsioni e rumori siano ancora presenti all'uscita di una metà del circuito, ma essendo questa di fatto identica all'altra metà, svanisce nei terminali dei diffusori. Ciò comporta buone prestazioni misurate, alla base delle quali c’è un circuito semplice, che in quanto tale dà anche un suono eccellente.
In passato questo tipo di circuiti semplici Classe A è stato molto in voga per la qualità del suono prodotto in amplificatori di bassa potenza, ma non veniva applicato in alte potenze a causa dell'eccessiva distorsione e della bassa efficienza.
"xxx"™ supera questa barriera e dà la purezza, la ricostruzione del palcoscenico sonoro e i dettagli di un circuito molto semplice fino a livelli di potenza di kilowatt e oltre.
Gli amplificatori serie "xxx" hanno un intervallo dinamico straordinario (>140 dB) in grado di rendere giustizia alle incisioni digitali ad alta risoluzione del 21° secolo e la finezza di riacquistare la micro dinamica offerta dai diffusori più sensibili. Il circuito semplice, ma potente, passa senza difficoltà dal silenzio totale a transienti esplosivi e di nuovo al silenzio senza lasciare tracce e senza perdite di informazione. Molto diversamente dai normali amplificatori ad alta potenza raggiungono questo livello di potenza con un'abilità che si addice ad alcuni dei migliori amplificatori a valvole.
Queste prestazioni sono costanti per tutto lo spettro audio e rimangono incondizionatamente stabili con tutti i tipi di carico degli altoparlanti.

Installazione
Potete sistemare il Vostro amplificatore dove preferite ma è necessaria un'adeguata ventilazione. Raccomandiamo di non collocarlo in mobili chiusi o armadietti che non permettano la circolazione libera dell'aria. Per lo stesso motivo non è consigliabile sistemare questi apparecchi l'uno sull'altro. Questo amplificatore si spegne a poco più di 250 watt, la maggior parte dei quali vengono dissipati come calore lungo i dissipatori. Come indicazione tenete presente che la temperatura dei dissipatori non deve essere troppo alta da non poterli toccare per alcuni secondi.
Parliamo dei requisiti di alimentazione a corrente alternata. Questo amplificatore assorbe 2 ampere (corrente continua rms) con una tensione di 120 volt durante il normale funzionamento e questo assorbimento riflette per lo più la corrente quiescente utilizzata nello stadio di uscita. Se si pilota un carico a bassa impedenza, l'assorbimento sarà maggiore, ma questa non è la situazione tipo.
Le indicazioni su tensione elettrica e corrente si trovano sul pannello posteriore. La tensione sarà di 240 volt, 220 volt, 120 volt o 100 volt, a ciascuno di questi valori dovrà corrispondere un fusibile ad azione ritardata sostituibile del tipo 3AG inserito nella parte posteriore. Per voltaggi di 220 o 240 volt il fusibile sarà di 2-1/2 amp tipo 3AG, 250V ritardato, per tensioni di 100 o 120 volt il fusibile sarà di 5 amp, tipo 3AG, ritardato. Per una sostituzione specifica non utilizzate fusibili di altro tipo, voltaggio o amperaggio o con altra costante di tempo.
La frequenza nominale della corrente alternata in qualsiasi caso va da 50 a 60 Hz. Verificate che i requisiti di tensione indicati sull'amplificatore siano compatibili con la tensione fornita nella vostra abitazione. L’"xxx" "xxx" è dotato di un normale cavo di alimentazione rimovibile IEC da 15 amp. La massa di protezione è fissata allo chassis secondo gli usuali criteri omologati. L'ingresso della corrente alternata all'amplificatore passa attraverso un filtro RF (radiofrequenza) che rimuove il rumore di alta frequenza in ingresso e in uscita dall'alimentatore dell'amplificatore.
Non togliere in nessun caso il collegamento di terra del cavo di alimentazione. Per ragioni di sicurezza lo chassis dell'amplificatore deve essere messo a terra. La massa di segnale è isolata dallo chassis, massa di protezione, al fine di ridurre l'incidenza del rumore dell'anello di massa. La presenza di una massa di protezione non influirà in maniera negativa sulla catena del segnale audio.
E' possibile sostituire il cavo di alimentazione rimovibile IEC 320 con uno di vostra scelta purché sia da 15 amp, in linea con i requisiti legali e che sia stato approvato dalle autorità legali locali addette a testare questi dispositivi.
Guardando il pannello posteriore vedrete la presa per il cavo IEC 320, il commutatore di accensione, due paia di connettori di uscita, un paio di connettori binding post3 per l'accensione a distanza, due connettori di ingresso RCA e due connettori di ingresso bilanciati XLR.
Assicuratevi che il commutatore di accensione sia sulla posizione spento (giù). Inserite il cavo di alimentazione sul retro dell'amplificatore e nella presa sulla parete. Mettete il commutatore sulla posizione acceso (su). Quando l'alimentatore carica i condensatori è possibile che le luci nella vostra casa lampeggino, ciò è normale. Questo commutatore di accensione non deve essere utilizzato come un dispositivo di spegnimento di sicurezza durante gli interventi di assistenza e non rappresenta un'alternativa alla disconnessione del cavo di alimentazione.
Sul pannello frontale dovrebbe accendersi il LED blu di “Stanby”, ad indicare che l'amplificatore è acceso. Il LED “Power” dovrebbe essere spento. Se dovesse essere acceso non agitatevi, mettete semplicemente l'amplificatore in stand-by con il relativo pulsante che si trova sul pannello frontale, il LED “Stanby” si accenderà, mentre il LED “Power” si spegnerà.
Bene, ora l'amplificatore è lì, in modalità di stand-by, con un solo LED blu acceso. Finora non è stato collegato nessun diffusore. Potete procedere collegando la sorgente e i diffusori. Alcuni cavi per diffusori sono difficili da utilizzare a causa delle loro dimensioni e del tipo di costruzione, assicuratevi che le connessioni dei diffusori non entrino in corto circuito l'una con l'altra. Si consiglia di collegare prima le terminazioni per i diffusori di questi cavi.
Alcuni subwoofers4 amplificati necessitano di una massa di segnale e i loro produttori potrebbero suggerire che questo punto di riferimento di tensione si trovi in un connettore nero per diffusori. Per tecnologie complementari, che sarebbero tipiche per gli amplificatori prodotti dalla
"xxx"™, questa è un'affermazione non corretta e rischiosa. In tutti i finali di potenza "xxx"™ il riferimento a 0 volt si trova solo nel piedino 1 dell'ingresso XLR oppure nello scheletro dell'ingresso RCA.
Riguardo alle connessioni di riferimento per questi dispositivi, nel caso vengano utilizzati con i nostri prodotti, è necessaria una trattazione specifica. Se possedete un dispositivo di questo genere e desiderate utilizzarlo con il nostro prodotto, siete pregati di contattare la nostra fabbrica di Foresthill, in California, per avere istruzioni specifiche.
Ingresso XRL che indica il giusto posizionamento del piedino del jumper5 per l'utilizzo con un ingresso sbilanciato (RCA).
NB: Nell'amplificatore X150.5 gli XLR sono capovolti.
L'amplificatore può essere pilotato sbilanciato o bilanciato, nel caso in cui lo si piloti sbilanciato, lasciate il jumper fornito al suo posto (tra i piedini 1&2 del XRL). L'amplificatore funzionerà anche senza che il jumper sia al suo posto, ma le prestazioni saranno nettamente inferiori.
Ora che i componenti di alimentazione sono connessi assicuratevi che dagli stessi non provengano segnali, possibilmente abbassando del tutto il volume. Con i diffusori collegati premete il tasto sul pannello frontale per mettere in funzione l'amplificatore. Il LED “Power” si accenderà.
Adesso siete pronti a fare musica
Fate la cortesia di provare a non cortocircuitare i cavi di uscita. Ciò accade solo accidentalmente e l’amplificatore è stato progettato per sopravvivere nella maggior parte dei casi.
Ovviamente è sempre possibile che qualcosa vada storto, in questa eventualità non agitatevi. Capiamo che sia molto irritante quando un oggetto come questo non funziona, ma rilassatevi: può essere riparato. Ci impegniamo molto affinché i nostri prodotti siano affidabili e la percentuale di guasti nei nostri amplificatori è molto bassa. Per quei pochi a cui capita, ciò è di poco conforto, tuttavia prendetela con calma e chiamateci in caso di problemi.
Spesso si vuole sapere il tempo di rodaggio di questi amplificatori. Forse una domanda più importante è quanto tempo sia necessario dopo l'accensione perché raggiungano i migliori risultati acustici. Ci vuole circa un'ora di riscaldamento e a questo punto interveniamo con la prima regolazione, dopodiché effettuiamo delle altre regolazioni per circa due giorni, tenendo bias e offset 6 nel punto di miglior ascolto. La temperatura nel nostro ambiente è di circa 23° C e i dissipatori la supereranno di circa 25° C, per una temperatura media dei dissipatori di 48° C. Acusticamente gli amplificatori sono al massimo quando i dissipatori sono a circa 50°.
Nella vostra situazione la temperatura può cambiare leggermente a causa di variazioni di tensione e di ventilazione, ma non si tratta di grandi quantità. Dovreste poter poggiare le mani sui dissipatori per circa 10 secondi senza provare fastidio. E' normale che la temperatura dei dissipatori possa essere diversa tra un lato e l'altro e tra la parte anteriore e quella posteriore.
L'amplificatore è dotato di un interruttore termico che stacca la corrente se la temperatura supera i 75° C. Questo non dovrebbe mai capitare nella vita reale.
Altre cose da sapere
E' possibile gestire a distanza la modalità di stand-by applicando una corrente continua di 12 volt all'unica coppia di connettori binding post che si trovano sul pannello posteriore. Il polo positivo della corrente continua di 12 volt va nel connettore rosso. Questa connessione ha un reale intervallo di utilizzo che va approssimativamente da 9 volt a 15 volt con un assorbimento di circa 5.0mA. Scegliendo questa procedura il pulsante sul pannello anteriore verrà disattivato, se desiderate che sia attivo lasciate aperta la connessione posteriore.
Fin qui le informazioni più essenziali.
Interfaccia Diffusori
"xxx" della "xxx"™ è ottimizzato per carichi nominalmente dichiarati di 4 ohm e oltre. E' possibile utilizzare l'amplificatore senza problemi con un'impedenza nominale inferiore e non sappiamo di diffusori sul mercato che diano problemi insoliti con questi amplificatori.
Negli amplificatori "xxx" la reattività dei carichi non è una cosa particolarmente importante. Rispetto ai carichi resistivi, quelli reattivi normalmente hanno una distorsione leggermente inferiore un dato livello tensione/corrente, ma fanno scaldare un po’ di più l'amplificatore. Il circuito "xxx" è stato progettato per pilotare senza difficoltà diffusori elettrostatici ed altri tipi di diffusori difficili.
Quando si pilotano direttamente carichi accoppiati con trasformatore, come con dispositivi elettrostatici e a nastro, è necessario prestare attenzione alla situazione della corrente continua. Se l'avvolgimento primario del trasformatore viene utilizzato senza protezione dalla corrente continua e la vostra sorgente ha una tensione continua oppure in casi in cui la ridotta tensione di offset del finale di potenza è comunque troppo grande, si possono creare distorsioni nel trasformatore e dare luogo a prestazioni non ottimali. Con diffusori accoppiati con trasformatore ciò non rappresenta la norma, ma potrebbe verificarsi occasionalmente. In questi casi prestate particolare attenzione al fatto che la sorgente non abbia una componente di corrente continua differenziale e verificate che l'offset di tensione del pre amplificatore sia sufficientemente basso. La tensione differenziale può essere regolata da un tecnico qualificato con gli adeguati certificati di assistenza tecnica.
Cavi di interconnessione e di potenza
La nostra raccomandazione generica sui cavi di interconnessione è che costino meno dell'amplificatore e che siano abbastanza flessibili per poterci lavorare. Abbiamo provato molti prodotti, la maggior parte dei quali funzionano bene, tuttavia, per questioni pratiche, non possiamo fare delle raccomandazioni generali.
L'amplificatore non è sensibile ai cavi di interconnessione alla sorgente e agli anelli di massa. Non è sensibile neanche alla captazione della frequenza radio, il che permette una certa flessibilità nella scelta dei cavi di interconnessione alla sorgente senza calza schermo, sebbene sia sempre preferibile che ci siano le calze schermo.
Preferiamo cavi di potenza spessi e corti. Argento e rame sono i materiali prescelti. Se trovate cavi d'oro regalatecene un paio di centinaia di metri!
Fortunatamente l'amplificatore non è sensibile al carattere capacitativo/induttivo di alcuni speciali cavi di potenza, perciò sentitevi liberi di sperimentare.
Abbiamo scoperto che circa nel 90% dei casi in cui i cavi suonano male, in realtà sono le connessioni a suonare male, perciò ci raccomandiamo che venga prestata particolare attenzione alla pulizia delle superfici e all'attacco.
I cavi di potenza dovrebbero venire ben stretti ai terminali di uscita dei diffusori, ma non utilizzare una chiave inglese. Questi connettori non sopportano un momento di torsione7 di Nm. Sarà sufficiente stringete con le mani senza applicare una forza eccessiva.
Alcune cifre sull'Hardware
Quanto durerà questo hardware? Secondo la nostra esperienza, salvo cattivo uso o un insolito guasto di un componente, la prima cosa che cede sono i condensatori di alimentazione che, per esperienza, vanno avanti da 15 a 20 anni prima di dover essere sostituiti. Fortunatamente questi componenti smettono di funzionare senza dare problemi, dopo anni, e sono facilmente sostituibili.
A parte questo, la longevità dipende dal numero di cicli termici di funzionamento, ma possiamo affermare di avere avuto amplificatori che hanno funzionato per più di vent’anni senza particolari indici di mortalità, tranne che per i condensatori. Oltre questo limite non abbiamo informazioni. Il suggerimento che possiamo dare è di non preoccuparvi, questo dispositivo è il risultato di una tecnologia industriale classica, non è un circuito valvolare ricco di modifiche e soggetto a guasti.. Se si dovesse rompere, dormite tranquilli: lo aggiusteremo.
Specifiche tecniche
Tutte le cifre sono state ottenute dopo un’ora di riscaldamento con un’alimentazione di 120V. Vedere le note del manuale sulle norme relative all’alimentazione di corrente alternata.
Acqua e umidità: Gli apparecchi elettrici non dovrebbero essere utilizzati vicino all'acqua (per esempio vicino a vasche da bagno, lavandini, lavelli, bacinelle da bucato, basi umide o piscine). Bisogna fare attenzione che questi oggetti non cadano e che i liquidi non vengano a contatto con la superficie o non entrino nell'apparecchio attraverso le aperture.
Alimentazione: Gli apparecchi elettrici devono essere collegati all'alimentazione in stretta osservanza con le informazioni contenute nel manuale del prodotto. Verificate che la tensione di corrente alternata specificata nel manuale del prodotto corrisponda ai requisiti indicati sull'apparecchio e alla tensione di corrente alternata fornita dalla vostra azienda di fornitura di energia elettrica.
Messa a terra: Devono essere prese opportune precauzioni affinché le indicazioni relative alla messa a terra di un apparecchio elettrico vengano rigorosamente osservate.
Cavi di alimentazione: La Pass Laboratories fornisce fornisce un cavo di alimentazione che soddisfa tutti i requisiti legali del mercato nel quale il prodotto è stato originariamente venduto. Se scegliete di sostituirlo con un altro prodotto vi esortiamo a sceglierne uno considerato pienamente sicuro dalle locali autorità a ciò preposte.

Ventilazione: I finali di potenza si scaldano, ma dovreste essere in grado di poggiarci le mani senza provare fastidio. CIRCUIT DESIGN
The phono stage of the "xxx" consists of two cascaded triode amplifiers direct coupled to a cathode follower for low output impedance. Phono equalization is accomplished by R-C networks in a direct coupled feedback loop driven by the cathode follower. The RIAA components are 1% tolerance, with RIAA capacitors being polystyrene dielectric. The audio circuitry is executed entirely with precision, low noise metal film resistors. All coupling capacitors are polypropylene dielectric. The line stage consists of a single voltage amplifier direct coupled to a cathode follower with an overall feedback loop.
Plate voltage is supplied by a sophisticated, low impedance voltage regulator. The regulator's output supplies the audio circuitry directly to minimize power supply source impedance.
The regulator is designed using solely polypropylene capacitors, isolating the audio circuitry from the non-linear effects of electrolytic capacitors. Filaments are operated on a regulated d.c. voltage to minimize noise a the low signal levels in a preamplifier and to prevent line voltage fluctuations from coupling infrasonic disturbances to the audio signal.
INSTALLATION
Because of the number and type of vacuum tubes used, the "xxx" dissipates a significant amount of heat (approximately 30 watts).
It is essential, therefore, that proper attention be paid to ventilation. The unit should be mounted horizontally on a flat hard surface so that the ventilation holes in the bottom are un-obstructed. At least three inches of clearance should be provided above the unit and the cabinet or shelf should be open at the back. Vertical installation is not recommended.
To minimize hum pickup, keep the unit well away from the power amplifier, and route power cords away from input cables.
THE "xxx" IS TO BE OPERATED ONLY ON AC LINE VOLTAGE OF 108 to 125 VOLTS, 50 or 60 HZ
In any system of audio electronics minute leakage currents from ac line transformers will flow in the signal ground connections between preamplifier and amplifier. These currents can intermodulate with the signal and affect the clarity of sound. Generally, one orientation of the line cord will provide much lower current flows. When combined with the finest associated equipment this effect is clearly audible with the PV7. After installing the unit try reversing the line cord at the wall outlet to pick the most satisfactory orientation.
CONNECTION
Inputs:
Phono – The phono inputs provide the additional amplification and RIAA equalization required by most high fidelity cartridges. The input impedance is 47,000 ohms shunted by approximately 100 pico-farads capacitance. This is the industry standard load and will work well with most moving magnet cartridges and all pre-apreamplifiers for moving coil cartridges. A few moving magnet cartridges perform better with a 10,000 ohm load which may be achieved by having a service technician shunt the phono inputs with 12,000 ohm resistors.
For some moving magnet cartridges, optimum performance requires higher capacitive loads. This may be achieved by soldering suitable value capacitors across the phono input jacks. Polystyrene capacitors are recommended for this purpose.
Tuner, Auxiliary, Tape 1, Tape 2 – These are all high level inputs and are electronically equivalent. The outputs of your tape recorders should be connected to Tape 1 and Tape 2.
Outputs:
Record 1, Record 2 – Connect these to the inputs of your tape recorders.
Output 1, Output 2 – Connect to the inputs of amplifiers with impedance of 10k-ohms or greater.
AC OUTLETS
Two ac outlets are provided for your convenience: they are unswitched (always live). THE TOTAL CURRENT REQUIRED OF THE OUTLETS MUST NOT EXVEED 5 AMPERES. This precludes the use of these outlets for high powered amplifiers.
ABSOLUTE PHASE:
1.
Musical transients are positive going – that is they first create a pressure front in the surrounding air. It is important that your stereo system reproduces transients in the same way since the ear can distinguish between positive and negative transients. This means that on a transient the speaker diaphragms should first move toward the listener – creating a pressure front.
Each component in your system is either phase correct (non-inverting) or phase inverting. If you know the phase of each component in your system (the line stage of your "xxx" inverts all inputs, including phono) then correct absolute phase is obtained by the following simple rule:
THE TOTAL NUMBER OF PHASE INVERSIONS IN THE SIGNAL PATH SHOULD BE EVEN.
If the number of phase inverting components is either none, or even, then simply wire the speakers in a phase correct manner (amplifier C to speaker “-”, amplifier 4, 8 or 16 to speaker “ ”)
If the number of phase inverting components is odd, then one more inversion should be added. This may be accomplished at the speaker by inverting the wiring (by reversing “ ” and “-”) at both speakers.
If you do not know whether each element of your system is phase inverting or not, you should try listening to the system with your speakers hooked up both ways. When correctly phased, plucked strings and other sharp transients will sound noticeably better defined.
OPERATION
Turn on:
Because of the delayed warm up characteristics of vacuum tube equipment, a time delay muting circuit is incorporated in this preamplifier. Output 1 and Output 2 are grounded via a relay for approximately 45 seconds after the unit is turned on in order to suppress warm up transient noises. The relay grounds the outputs again immediately at turn off or in the event of any power line interruption.
Selector:
Use the selector switch to choose an input from Phono, Tuner, Tape 1, Tape 2 or Auxiliary inputs. The selected source will be available at the source (out) position of the tape monitor switch and at both Record Outputs. Note that dubbing between tape decks is possible in both directions. Also, since the selected decks' output is fed back to its own record input, care must be taken not to select a tape deck which is in the record mode. Similarly, if one of the tape loops is used for an external signal processor, that tape loop should never be selected (and, of course, there is no reason to select it since the external processor is not itself a program source). Failure to observe these precautions will create an unstable feedback system and may generate a “howling” sound.
Monitor:
This switch permits you to compare source and tape while recording on either or both tape decks from the selected input. You may wish to use Tape 2 and Record 2 to install an external signal processor such as graphic tone controls. Then, the Tape 2 position will choose the processed signal while Source will choose the pure signal.
Balance:
Permits continuous control of location of stereo image from left to right. In the full counterclockwise position only the left channel will be heard. Similarly, the full clockwise position will reproduce only the right channel. In normal use this control will be centered.
Volume:
The "xxx" volume control is an extremely precise control, maintaining channel to channel tracking within ± ½ db throughout its rotation.
The audio circuit of the "xxx" uses five vacuum tubes of two different types: three 12AX7 (V1, V2 and V4) and two 12AT7 (V3 and V5). Each type has been accurately chosen for its circuit application. It is well known that tubes of a given type vary sonically depending on the manufacturer. We have chosen the brands of tubes that we supply based on extensive auditioning of available brands. The choice of brands has been made solely on the basis of sonic performance without regard to either cost or prestige. We know of no vacuum tubes available of the specified types which will improve the sonic performance of your "xxx". Also, the tubes in your preamplifier have been tempered by a controlled burn in procedure that permits them to perform for a greatly extended period without sonic degradation. We anticipate two to three years of operation without degradation in normal use. We highly recommend that, when the time comes to replace the vacuum tubes, you purchase replacement tube sets from "xxx".

TECNOLOGIA DEL CIRCUITO
Lo stadio fono del "xxx" consiste in due amplificatori a triodo a cascata accoppiati direttamente a un inseguitore di catodo per una bassa impedenza di uscita. L'equalizzazione fono viene realizzata da reti RC in un anello di controreazione ad accoppiamento diretto, pilotato dall'inseguitore di catodo. I componenti RIAA2 hanno l'1% di tolleranza avendo i condensatori RIAA dielettrici in polistirene.
La circuiteria audio è interamente realizzata da resistori a film metallico di alta precisione e a basso rumore. Tutti i condensatori di accoppiamento sono a dielettrico in polipropilene. Lo stadio linea consiste in un unico amplificatore di tensione accoppiato direttamente a un inseguitore di catodo con un anello di controreazione complessivo.
La tensione anodica è fornita da un sofisticato regolatore di tensione a bassa impedenza. L'uscita del regolatore alimenta direttamente il circuito audio in modo da ridurre al minimo l'impedenza della sorgente di alimentazione. Il regolatore è stato progettato utilizzando esclusivamente condensatori in polipropilene, in modo da isolare il circuito audio dagli effetti non-linari dei condensatori elettrolitici. I filamenti sono alimentati da una tensione continua regolata per ridurre al minimo il rumore a bassi livelli di segnale in un preamplificatore e per impedire che le fluttuazioni di tensione aggiungano disturbi infrasonici al segnale audio.
INSTALLAZIONE
A causa del numero e del tipo di valvole termoioniche utilizzate, il "xxx" dissipa una notevole quantità di calore (approssimativamente 30 watt), pertanto è fondamentale prestare particolare attenzione alla ventilazione. Il "xxx" deve essere posizionato orizzontalmente su una superficie piana solida, in modo tale che i fori di ventilazione della parte inferiore non vengano ostruiti. E' necessario che ci siano almeno tre pollici di spazio al di sopra del pre-amplificatore e il mobiletto o la mensola dovrebbero essere aperte nella parte posteriore. Non è consigliabile posizionare verticalmente l'unità.
Per ridurre al minimo la captazione di ronzio, tenete il "xxx" ben separato dal finale di potenza e fate passare di cavi di alimentazione lontano da quelli di ingresso.
IL PRE-AMPLIFICATORE "xxx" FUNZIONA SOLO SU CORRENTE ALTERNATA CON TENSIONE DA 108 A 125 VOLT, 50 O 60 Hz.
In qualsiasi sistema di elettronica audio delle minuscole correnti di fuga provenienti dai trasformatori di corrente alternata circolano nei collegamenti della massa di segnale tra pre-amplificatore e amplificatore. Queste correnti possono intermodulare col segnale e influire sulla chiarezza del suono. Generalmente un orientamento del cavo di alimentazione genera flussi di corrente molto più bassi. Quanto il "xxx" è associato a buoni dispositivi questo effetto è chiaramente percepibile. Per scegliere l'orientamento più soddisfacente provate a invertire il cavo di alimentazione nella presa alla parete dopo aver installato l'unità.
COLLEGAMENTI
Ingressi: Fono – Gli ingressi fono forniscono l’amplificazione supplementare e l’equalizzazione RIAA necessaria per la maggior parte delle testine ad alta fedeltà. L’impedenza di ingresso è di 47,000 ohm che è deviata da circa 100 pico Farad di capacità. Questo è il carico standard industriale e funzionerà bene con la maggior parte di testine a magnete mobile e con tutti i pre-amplificatori per testine a bobina mobile. Alcune testine a magnete mobile hanno prestazioni migliori con un carico di 10,000 ohm; un tecnico dell’assistenza può ottenere questo valore deviando gli ingressi fono con un resistore da 12,000 ohm.

PRESE DI CORRENTE ALTERNATA
Per Vostra comodità vengono fornite due prese di corrente alternata senza interruttore (sempre accese). IL TOTALE DELLA CORRENTE PER LE PRESE NON DEVE SUPERARE I 5 AMPERE. Ciò esclude che queste prese vengano utilizzate con amplificatori ad alta potenza.
FASE ASSOLUTA
I transienti musicali sono positivi, ossia essi creano inizialmente un fronte di pressione nello spazio circostante. E' importante che il Vostro sistema stereo riproduca i transienti nello stesso modo perché l'orecchio è in grado di distinguere fra transienti positivi e negativi. Ciò significa che su un transiente i diaframmi dei diffusori dovrebbero muoversi prima verso l'ascoltatore creando un fronte di pressione.
Ciascun componente del Vostro sistema è o non-invertente o invertente. Conoscendo la fase di ciascun componente del Vostro sistema (lo stadio linea del Vostro "xxx" inverte tutti gli ingressi, incluso l'ingresso fono) è possibile ottenere la correttezza della fase assoluta seguendo la seguente semplice regola:
IL TOTALE DELLE INVERSIONI DI FASE NEL PERCORSO DEL SEGNALE DEVE ESSERE UN NUMERO PARI.
Se il numero dei componenti invertenti è nullo o pari collegate semplicemente i diffusori in fase (C dell'amplificatore a “-” del diffusore, 4, 8 o 16 dell'amplificatore a “ ” del diffusore).
Se il numero dei componenti invertenti è dispari si dovrebbe aggiungere un'altra inversione. Questa operazione può essere effettuta tramite il diffusore, invertendo il cablaggio (inversione di “ ” e “-”) su entrambi i diffusori
Se non conoscete la fase di ciascun componente del Vostro sistema fate una prova di ascolto con i diffusori collegati in entrambi i modi. Quando la fase è corretta le corde pizzicate ed altri transienti troppo alti avranno un suono notevolmente più definito.
FUNZIONAMENTO
Accensione:
A causa del tempo di riscaldamento necessario ai dispositivi a valvole termoioniche, questo preamplificatore è dotato di un circuito silenziatore ritardato. Dopo l'accensione l'Output 1 e l'Output 2 sono collegati a massa attraverso un relè per circa 45 secondi in modo da eliminare il rumore dei transitori dovuti al riscaldamento. Il relè ricollega immediatamente le uscite a massa allo spegnimento o in caso di interruzione dell'alimentazione elettrica.
Selector:
Utilizzare il comando Selector per scegliere un ingresso tra Phono, Tuner, Tape 1, Tape 2 o Auxiliary. La sorgente selezionata sarà disponibile alla posizione Source (out) del comando Monitor e su entrambe le uscite Record. Da notare: la funzione dubbing tra le piastre di registrazione è possibile in entrambe le direzioni. Poiché inoltre l'uscita della piastra selezionata è collegata al suo stesso ingresso Record, bisogna fare attenzione a non scegliere una piastra di registrazione che sia in modalità record. Allo stesso modo se uno degli anelli di registrazione viene utilizzato per un processore di segnale esterno, quell'anello non dovrebbe mai essere selezionato (e d'altra parte non c'è motivo per cui selezionarlo, poiché il processore esterno non è di sé e per sé una sorgente). Il mancato rispetto di queste precauzioni avrà come effetto un sistema con feedback instabile e la generazione di un suono “sibilante”.
Monitor:
Questo comando permette di confrontare la sorgente e il nastro durante la registrazione su una o entrambe le piastre di registrazione dall’ingresso selezionato. Potreste voler utilizzare Tape 2 e Record 2 per installare un processore di segnale esterno come i controlli grafici di tono, a questo punto la posizione Tape 2 sceglierà il segnale elaborato mentre Source8 selezionerà il segnale puro.
Balance:
La manopola Balance permette il controllo continuo della posizione dell’immagine stereofonica da sinistra a destra. In posizione completamente antioraria si sentirà solo il canale sinistro. Allo stesso modo quando la manopola si trova in posizione completamente oraria il comando riprodurrà solo il canale destro. Durante il normale funzionamento la manopola è al centro.
Volume:
Questa manopola del "xxx" permette un controllo estremamente preciso del volume , mantenendo un tracciamento inter-canale entro - ½ dB per tutta la rotazione.
Il circuito audio del "xxx" utilizza cinque valvole termoioniche di due tipi diversi: tre 12AX7 (V1, V2 e V4) e due 12AT7 (V3 e V5). Ciascuna tipologia è stata accuratamente selezionata per la sua applicazione al circuito. E’ cosa ben nota che valvole di un determinato tipo variano dal punto di vista sonoro a seconda del produttore. Abbiamo selezionato i marchi di valvole che forniamo sulla base di un’approfondita audizione dei marchi disponibili. La scelta del marchio è stata effettuata esclusivamente sulla base delle prestazioni sonore e dell’affidabilità senza tenere in considerazione né il costo né il prestigio. Non siamo a conoscenza della presenza nel mercato di valvole termoioniche del tipo specificato che possano migliorare le prestazioni del Vostro "xxx". Le valvole del Vostro pre-amplificatore sono state inoltre temprate attraverso un rodaggio controllato che permette loro di funzionare per un periodo enormemente più lungo senza che le prestazioni ne risentano. Facendone un normale utilizzo prevediamo che le valvole funzionino per due o tre anni senza deterioramenti. Al momento di sostituirle raccomandiamo caldamente di utilizzare valvole "xxx".
Nota bene: La sostituzione del tipo 12AX7 al tipo 12AT7 potrebbe danneggiare la 12AX7. Sostituzioni con altri tipi di valvole potrebbero danneggiare la circuitazione del pre-amp o il trasformatore.

Fusibile: Il cavo di corrente alternata è dotato di fusibile in modo da proteggere il trasformatore. No negative feedback circuits might be more accurately described, in most cases, as local feedback only designs. Some might argue that local feedback is still feedback, but according to "xxx", "there is always some amount of feedback locally around any gain device by the nature of the device." He thinks that "no feedback" describes a circuit in which negative feedback doesn't extend further than a single stage or gain device.
Conventional negative feedback, local or otherwise, is used to make the circuit's output look more like its input. In "xxx", feedback isn't used in the conventional sense, but rather works to make two halves of an already symmetric balanced circuit behave identically with respect to distortion and noise. According to "xxx", "This dramatically lowers the differential distortion and noise, but not in each half of the circuit considered by itself. "xxx" topology doesn't use operational amplifiers as building blocks, nor can it be represented with operational amplifiers. It has two negative inputs and two positive outputs, and consists of two matched gain blocks coupled at one central point, where the voltage is ideally zero. The topology is unique in that, at this point, the distortion contributed by each half appears out of phase with the signal, and we use this to reinforce the desired signal and cancel noise and distortion. This occurs mutually between the two halves of the circuit, and the result is signal symmetry with respect to both the voltage and current axis, and anti-symmetry for distortion and noise. This means that the distortion and noise of each half appears identically and cancels.
"If you build such a symmetric (balanced) circuit, you get much of this effect already. If you drive a matched differential pair of transistors without feedback with a balanced signal, you will see a balanced output whose distortion and noise are typically a tenth that of either device alone, purely out of cancellation. With "xxx", the same differential pair's characteristic can be made so identical that the differential output will have only 1/100 the distortion and noise of either device alone....
""xxx" does not reduce the distortion and noise present in either half of the output of the balanced circuit. It is the balanced differential characteristic that improves dramatically, and that leads to one singular requirement of "xxx" operation: it must be driven by a balanced input signal and produce a balanced output signal. "xxx" makes the two halves of the balanced circuit behave absolutely identically. Constructing the two halves of the circuit with identical topologies and matching the components precisely achieves a 20dB or so reduction in distortion and noise, and a modest amount of local feedback achieves another 20dB. This is easily accomplished with only one gain stage instead of the multiple stages required by conventional designs, so it results in only one 'pole' of high-frequency characteristic that is unconditionally stable without compensation. In fact, if you build a "xxx" circuit with multiple gain stages, it doesn't work as well. Ironically, the "xxx" concept not only allows for very simple gain circuits, but actually requires them for good performance.
"'Balanced single-ended' is a phrase I use to refer to differential use of two single-ended class-A gain devices. The classic differential pair of transistors (or tubes, for that matter) is just such a topology. Balanced single-ended is an oxymoron in the sense that most single-ended enthusiasts believe that the most desirable characteristic of single-ended circuits is their generation of even-order distortion components by virtue of their asymmetry. Purists will point out that a balanced version of a single-ended circuit will experience cancellation of noise and even-order components. Just so. Interestingly, the single-ended nature of each half of the balanced circuit doesn't give rise to much in the way of odd-order distortion, and when the even-order components and noise are cancelled, there isn't much distortion and noise left. In any case, 'balanced single-ended' is a phrase that accurately describes the circuit."

Your "xxx" "xxx" 3 loudspeaker system incorporates the first radical improvement in enclosure design for many years. Invented by "xxx" ("xxx" Chief Electronics Engineer) it is an ingenious new type of construction, concealed within the loudspeaker cabinet. This unique construction – the "xxx" "xxx" – virtually eliminates cabinet vibrations, which in ordinary loudspeakers add their unwanted contribution to the final sound.
This is a monitor quality loudspeaker system capable of generating extremely high sound levels. At the same time, due to its wide and balanced frequency response, it will faithfully reproduce the quieter sound of a solo instrument requiring considerably lower sound level for a faithful reproduction of the live performance.
Quite deliberately, the "xxx" "xxx" series of loudspeakers are described as digital monitors. They have designed for the age of the compact disc, with all the additional requirements that this material places on the loudspeaker system – such as increased dynamic range, increased transient information, lower noise floor, etc. "xxx" "xxx" 3 is, however, just as much at home with good analogue material and essentially will faithfully reproduce whatever signals are fed to it.
The aim of this instruction manual is to increase your knowledge of the product and in doing so,, to give you greater enjoyment from its use. Because any high quality loudspeaker is dipendent both on the signals fed to it and the environment (i.e. The listening room) in which it is used, we have devoted separated sections to these subjects.

2 The "xxx" "xxx" series – design background
"xxx"'s timely breakthrough slotted perfectly into the ongoing development work of our Research Department – culminating in what we believe to be a very significant advance in loudspeaker technology.
Within the scope of this short section, it is possible to give no more than the briefest summary; but the complete Design Story of the "xxx" "xxx" series of Digital Monitor loudspeakers has been published separately. We believe it will make interesting and informative reading, both for the professional engineer and dedicated enthusiast. It is available from your distributor at a nominal charge.
The "xxx" "xxx" enclosure
The newly invented "xxx" "xxx" enclosure, on which patent applications are pending throughout the world, is the heart of this loudspeaker and represents one of the few new inventions related to loudspeaker enclosures for many years. The "xxx" "xxx" or honeycomb structure which fills the air space inside the cabinet prevents the enclosure (as opposed to the loudspeaker drive unit) from radiating sound almost completely. This has never before been achieved.
There are a number of ways in which this elimination of enclosure sound radiation benefits the reproduction of the complete loudspeaker system:
a) it reduces the colouration so frequently associated with box type loudspeakers, and so provides a more natural open sound. The point being that conventional enclosures add something of their own character, so to speak, to the relatively neutral uncoloured sound of the drive unit.
b) Because the sound radiated from the enclosure takes a long time to decay, its elimination improves transient performance, especially at low frequencies.
c) The radiating area of the sound source from the "xxx" "xxx" enclosure is a smaller source than that of a conventional enclosure (because sound is not being radiated from the enclosure). Dispersion is therefore better, seating positions less critical and stereo information more accurate. In other words, the sound is perceived as coming from the space between the loudspeakers, rather than emanating from the loudspeakers themselves.
The loud drive units
Having made this major breakthrough in enclosure design, "xxx" used their ongoing research programme to incorporate totally new drive units within the "xxx" series of loudspeakers. For the bass and bass/midrange units, a new material – homoplymer polypropylene – was chosen. A Ferrofluid design was employed for the high frequency transducer, giving and additional 8dB of clear dynamic range for the increased transient signals of the compact disc.
Crossover, filter network and protection circuits
In any product, when the designer improves one module, others have to be upgraded if the whole is to be superior. Take the example of a car for which a new, improved engine is developed: better brakes and suspension must then complement the improved performance from the power unit if the car is to be a totally better product. Likewise with the "xxx" "xxx" series of loudspeakers: having improved both the enclosure and the drive units, corresponding improvements were necessary both in the components and design of the crossover. The APOC protection circuit on which "xxx" hold world patents, has also been upgraded. Its operation is fully explained under the appropriate section.
Design background - conclusion
In the few words which space allows in this booklet we have endeavoured to give a glimpse of the new technology embodied in your "xxx" "xxx" loudspeakers. The Design Story publication sets out in engineering terms the measurements and detailed proof of what has been briefly written here. Within this Instruction Manual we have endeavoured to give you helpful and useful information so that you may obtain the best result from your new loudspeakers. We believe its perusal will assist towards this end.
3 Unpacking, installation and aftercare
Unpacking
We suggest that after unpacking your loudspeakers, you should retain the packaging against the possibility of wishing to transport them at a later date.
The loudspeaker cartons contain:
a) One "xxx" "xxx" 3 loudspeaker.
And in one carton only:
b) One copy of this instruction manual.
c) Two calibration certificates – one for each speaker.
d) One accessory bag with four 4mm audio connecting plugs and eight spikes, the fitting of which is dealt with in a later section.
Installation
"xxx" "xxx" 3 is a floor-standing loudspeaker, so no stands are required and installation is initially a simple matter of connecting your loudspeakers with suitable cable to the output of your power amplifier.
Although the input impedance of "xxx" "xxx" 3 in linear in both modulus and phase (i.e. It is essentially resistive), the type of interconnecting cable you use between your amplifier and the loudspeakers may have a very marginal effect. The currents involved when playing music at high sound levels are large and it is important that the gauge (i.e. The cross sectional area) of your cable is sufficient to carry these without appreciable voltage drop. Between 2mm² and 4mm² is a good guide, depending on length involved.
It is generally gook practice to keep the amplifier/loudspeaker leads reasonably short and generally not over 10m (30ft) beyond which gauge and type of cable become more critical.
Later sections deal with positioning your loudspeakers, use the spikes supplied, and ancillary equipment.
Aftercare
The real wood veneer on your "xxx" "xxx" should be treated in the same way as you would treat a normal piece of furniture. If you use an aerosol, please spray on to a cloth and keep it away from the front of the loudspeaker, especially the grille cloth and drive units.
If you need to brush or clean the grille cloth, please first remove the grille assembly by grasping the outer frame and pulling away from the cabinet. The grille cloth may then be brushed with a normal clothes brush or similar.
Please avoid touching the drive units, especially the tweeter, as damage could result.
4 The listening room and positioning your loudspeakers
The degree of accuracy with which the original musical performance can be reproduced in your own home depends on a number of factors, including the quality of the original recording, the equipment used for reproduction and the acoustic properties of you listening room.
Regardless of other links in the chain, the listening room will to a greater or lesser degree imprint its character on the reproduced sound you hear. In simple proof of this statement, notice how the sound or the human voice changes according to environment.
Choice of listening room
Few people are fortunate enough to have a choice of listening rooms, but for those to whom this is possible (or anyone choosing a new home) the following may be helpful guidelines:
a) Any room with different dimensions for ceiling height, length and width will sound more even in response than rooms where all the dimensions are similar.
b) Solid walls are preferable and will show better reproduction of low frequency transients than some modern constructions where the inner walls are plasterboard and slightly flexible.
c) Other than in houses with solid or concrete floor structures, a ground floor room is preferable to an upper floor.
Changing listening room acoustics
Quite small changes in the furnishing of a room can change its acoustic properties quite significantly. If you already have pictures on the wall, remove these experimentally and at one you will notice a considerable change in the sound from your loudspeakers! We are not suggesting that you should leave the room bare of pictures – quite the reverse, because pictures break up the otherwise plain wall surfaces and generally give fewer discrete high frequency resonances or flutter echoes.
Curtains are another element which can change the sound of your listening room in the mid/upper frequencies. Heavier curtains give more sound absorption of these frequencies and a softer, less reverberant quality to the upper octaves. Conversely if your room sounds too dead, thinner curtains will give more life or sparkle in these frequency regions. So far as sound in the low frequencies is concerned, this is largely controlled by the dimensions and construction of the room. However, large items of furniture do change room behaviour at low frequencies, and their placement may be worth experimenting with.
Placement of your loudspeakers
It was once said that correct placement of a cheap pair of loudspeakers could produce better sound than incorrect placement of a much more expensive product. Whilst this is somewhat of an exaggeration, it is still true that changing the position of your loudspeakers will have a greater influence on the sound than any other variable under your control.
Because your "xxx" "xxx" 3 loudspeakers are floor-standing models, their height is controlled. So long as you place them on the floor, you will (when seated in normal living room furniture) be listening on the correct axis.
The spacing between your loudspeakers will depend on the size of your listening room and the distance of your seating from the loudspeakers. As a general rule they should not be closer than 1.5m (5ft) and the space between them should not exceed the distance of your seating fro listening. Placement of the two loudspeakers and the listener on the points of an equilateral triangle is not a bade rule to follow.
The position of the loudspeakers in relation to the walls of the listening room can have a noticeable effect on reproduction – especially at low frequencies. Generally, bass will increase relative to the middle and high frequencies as the loudspeakers are moved nearer the walls.
Placement hard against a wall, or worse still in the corner, will give rise to too much bass, with a boomy quality. In general, spacing from the walls of between 0.5m (2½ft) and 1.5m (5ft) is recommended, but it is well worth experimenting until you have the most acceptable sound. It is usually worth endeavouring to make the spacing between the two nearest walls uneven. As an example, the ratio of 0.5m (2½ft) to 1.5m (5ft) for the walls can give excellent results.
We have been discussing the proximity of loudspeakers to the wall in the context of lower frequencies: but it is also worth mentioning that stereo information in a front-back plane will also improve if the rear wall is at least 0.5m (2½ft) from the back of the loudspeaker.
One choice as to which of the four walls to place your loudspeakers near will largely depend on your arrangement of furniture. But again, the option of the longer, as opposed to the shorter wall is well worth trying.
A final word about symmetry. For best balance of stereo information the boundary conditions relative to each of the two loudspeakers should be as acoustically similar as possible.
5 Amplifier, control unit and source equipment
The power amplifier
Due to its linear resistive impedance, "xxx" "xxx" 3 is an easy loudspeaker for any amplifier to drive. It also has the virtue of high sensitivity – 90dB sound pressure at 1m from 1W (into 8Ω).
The recommended limits of power output for the driving amplifier are therfore:
MINIMUM 50W RMS
MAXIMUM 200W RMS
(into 4Ω resistive)
In giving these limits it should also be stated that amplifier power output requirement is an almost impossible figure for the loudspeaker manufacturer to specify. It will depend entirely upon the type of music reproduced, size of listening room and sound level required by the listener(s).
Because "xxx" "xxx" 3 is fitted with an especially sensitive form of APOC it would be totally reasonable not to show the upper limit of amplifier power and it is always better to have an amplifier with high power output, as this allows ample headroom for the reproduction of transients; whereas if the amplifier output is too low, clipping will occur. In effect, the loudspeaker will be fed with Direct Current and the general performance degraded.
"xxx" established their own Electronics Research Department for the express purpose of in-depth research into active loudspeakers, amplifiers an other items of electronic equipment. Already, products such as Active 1, MPA810 and CU810 have arrived on the market as a result of this research work. 1987 will see a further range of electronic components specifically designed to complement the performance of your loudspeakers. We suggest your ask your dealer for a comparative demonstration of these products.
The control unit
The control unit – although it deals with small voltages rather than large currents as in the case of the power amplifier – is an equally critical part of your listening chain. Choose with care, in the knowledge that the ultimate test for audio components is critical listening.
At "xxx" research department there are many different combinations of control units, amplifiers and source components such as analogue/CD players, tuners, etc. It is our experience that each unit (to say nothing of the interconnecting cable) is a variable, and the final listening chain is a combination of variables which should be carefully listened to before making a final choice.
CD player, analogue turntable and tuner
The comments in the previous paragraph apply equally to these items of equipment. CD player have now been on the market for some years and already considerable advances have been made. In its present state of development the CD player, when coupled with the best recordings made on this medium, can provide the most exceptional source material, totally worthy of the finest equipment with which it is associated.
6 The "xxx" "xxx" 3 protection circuit
This loudspeaker system is fully protected against excessive input signals. As soon as the safe upper limit for any of the drive units is approached, the protection circuit will come into operation. Overload of the bass, bass/midrange or tweeter will result in the tweeter being temporarily muted, with a consequent loss of high frequencies. As soon as this condition occurs you should reduce the volume or switch off the power amplifier. When the overload/fault condition has cleared, your loudspeaker will automatically be restored to normal operation.
7 Loudspeaker accessories
In this section we propose to comment briefly on two accessories associated with loudspeakers: spikes and cables. Fitting spikes to your "xxx" "xxx" 3 is simply a matter of unscrewing the small plastic domes already fitted to the base and screwing the spikes into the threaded sockets revealed.
Spikes, two sets of which are supplied with your loudspeakers, can assist sound reproduction in two quite different ways. Firstly, due to their extremely small area of contact relative to the loudspeaker base, their interface provides many thousands of times greater pressure at the point of contact. This increases the stability of the loudspeaker and helps withstand any movement of the enclosure from sound excitation.
The second way in which spikes can assist is by reducing the area of coupling between floor and loudspeaker enclosure. This is especially valuable in the case of a resonant floor, which may be regarded as a giant sounding board coupled to the loudspeaker enclosure.
Two areas of improvement in sound reproduction will be noticed when spikes are fitted. Bass transients will improve and stereo images will be slightly more precise due to the increased stability of the loudspeaker.
The subject of cables between the power amplifier and loudspeakers is dealt with under Section 3 (Installation).
There remains the question of interconnecting cables between the various pieces of equipment and the power amplifier. A number of excellent interconnect cables are available on the market and audible differences certainly exist between them. We suggest, therefore, that you choose one of the better cables for this purpose after consideration of the published reports.

L'eccellente intuizione di "xxx" avvenne al momento giusto e si inserì perfettamente nel continuo lavoro di sviluppo del Reparto di Ricerca, culminando in quello che noi riteniamo un cambiamento significativo nella tecnologia delle casse acustiche.
Nell'ambito di questo breve paragrafo sarà possibile esporre solo un breve sunto, tuttavia la Storia della Progettazione completa della Serie Casse Acustiche Monitor Digitali "xxx" "xxx" è stata pubblicata separatamente. Riteniamo che essa possa essere una lettura interessante e ricca di informazioni sia per gli ingegneri che per gli appassionati. E' disponibile presso il Vostro distributore a un prezzo simbolico.
La cassa "xxx" "xxx"
La cassa "xxx" "xxx" è stata inventata di recente ed è in attesa di brevetto in tutto il mondo. Essa rappresenta il cuore di questi diffusori e una delle poche invenzioni relative alla cassa dei diffusori da molti anni a questa parte. La struttura "xxx" "xxx" o struttura a nido d'ape, che riempie la camera d'aria all'interno del mobile, impedisce, quasi completamente, alla cassa (in opposizione all'altoparlante) di emanare il suono. Ciò non era mai stato ottenuto prima.
C'è una serie di modi nei quali la riproduzione del sistema completo di diffusione trae vantaggio dall'eliminazione del suono emanato dalla cassa:
a) riduce le colorazioni così frequentemente associate ai diffusori a cassa chiusa dando vita a un suono più naturale ed aperto. Le normali casse chiuse, infatti, aggiungono, per così dire, qualcosa di proprio al suono, relativamente neutro e trasparente, dell'altoparlante.
b) Il suono emanato dalle casse ha un lungo tempo di decadimento pertanto la sua eliminazione migliora le prestazioni relative ai transienti, specialmente alle basse frequenze.
c) Grazie al fatto che il suono non viene emanato dalla cassa, l'area di diffusione della sorgente sonora delle casse chiuse "xxx" "xxx" è inferiore rispetto a quella di una normale cassa chiusa. Di conseguenza la dispersione sarà migliore, la posizione di ascolto meno critica e i dati stereo più esatti. In altre parole il suono viene percepito come se provenisse dallo spazio tra i diffusori piuttosto che dai diffusori stessi.
Gli altoparlanti
Con l'introduzione di questa importante innovazione nel design delle casse chiuse sono stati realizzati, attraverso il continuo programma di ricerca di "xxx", degli altoparlanti assolutamente nuovi per la serie "xxx". Per gli altoparlanti destinati alle frequenze basse e medio basse è stato utilizzato un nuovo materiale, il polipropilene omopolimero. Il trasduttore destinato alle alte frequenze, essendo dotato di ferro fluido, aggiunge 8dB di intervallo dinamico pulito per i maggiori segnali transienti del compact disc.
Crossover, rete di filtri e circuiti di protezione
Quando il progettista di un qualsiasi prodotto ne migliora una parte, anche le altre parti devono essere sviluppate affinché il tutto risulti migliore. Prendiamo ad esempio un'automobile per la quale sia stato realizzato un motore migliore, se si vuole che l'automobile sia un prodotto migliore nel suo insieme sarà necessario che le prestazioni superiori del nuovo motore vengano completate da freni e sospensioni migliori. Allo stesso modo, era necessario migliorare i componenti e la tecnologia del crossover dei diffusori della serie "xxx" "xxx" adeguandoli ai miglioramenti già apportati alla cassa chiusa e agli altoparlanti. E' stato perfezionato anche il circuito di protezione APOC1, per il quale la "xxx" detiene un brevetto internazionale. Il suo funzionamento è spiegato in maniera esaustiva in un paragrafo a parte.

Disimballaggio, installazione e manutenzione
Disimballaggio
Dopo aver disimballato i Vostri diffusori suggeriamo di conservare le scatole per un eventuale futuro trasporto.
Le scatole dei diffusori contengono:
a) Un diffusore "xxx" "xxx" 3
E solo in un cartone:
b) Una copia di questo libretto di istruzioni.
c) Due certificati di calibrazione, uno per ciascun diffusore.
d) Una borsa per gli accessori con quattro morsetti a vite da 4 mm e otto punte del cui collocamento parleremo in un paragrafo a parte.
Installazione
Il "xxx" "xxx" è un diffusore da pavimento, pertanto non sono necessari supporti e la sua installazione richiede inizialmente solo la connessione del diffusore alle uscite dell'amplificatore attraverso cavi adatti.
Nonostante l'impedenza di entrata del "xxx" "xxx" sia lineare in modulo e fase (vale a dire è essenzialmente resistivo), il tipo di cavi di interconnessione che si utilizzano tra amplificatore e diffusori potrebbero avere un effetto molto marginale. Durante la riproduzione della musica a livelli di suono alti c’è un grande passaggio di corrente ed è importante che il diametro (ossia superficie della sezione trasversale) del cavo sia sufficiente perché non si verifichino considerevoli cali di tensione. A seconda della lunghezza dei cavi il diametro dovrebbe essere tra i 2mm² e i 4 mm² .
Generalmente è buona pratica che i fili di altoparlanti e amplificatore siano ragionevolmente corti e che non superino i 10 mt (30 ft), oltre questa lunghezza il diametro e il tipo di cavi diventano fattori molto più critici.
Gli ultimi paragrafi trattano il posizionamento dei diffusori, l’utilizzo delle punte fornite e accessori secondari.
Manutenzione
L'impiallacciatura in vero legno dei "xxx" "xxx" deve essere trattata come si farebbe con un normale mobile. Eventuali spray devono essere spruzzati su un panno e lontano dalla parte frontale dei diffusori, specialmente dalla griglia in tela e dagli altoparlanti.
Nel caso sia necessario spazzolare o pulire la griglia, è necessario rimuovere tutto il pezzo, estraendo la cornice esterna dal mobile del diffusore. La griglia potrà successivamente essere pulita con una normale spazzola per abiti o simile.
Evitate di toccare gli altoparlanti, in modo particolare il tweeter2, poiché potrebbero danneggiarsi.

Il luogo di ascolto e il posizionamento dei diffusori
Il grado di precisione con il quale l’esecuzione musicale originale può essere riprodotta a casa Vostra dipende da una serie di fattori, tra questi la qualità dell’incisione originale, l’attrezzatura utilizzata per la riproduzione e le caratteristiche acustiche della Vostra sala di ascolto.
A prescindere dagli altri anelli della catena, la sala di ascolto, in misura maggiore o minore, dà la sua impronta al suono riprodotto che ascoltate. Un semplice esempio a conferma di ciò è il cambiamento della voce umana a seconda dell’ambiente circostante.
Scelta della sala di ascolto
Poche persone sono tanto fortunate da poter scegliere fra diverse sale di ascolto, ma per coloro i quali hanno questa possibilità (o per chi sceglie una nuova casa) i seguenti consigli potranno essere utili:
a) Qualsiasi stanza in cui altezza del soffitto, lunghezza e larghezza abbiano dimensioni differenti avrà un suono migliore, anche in risposta, rispetto a stanze con dimensioni uguali.
b) Sono preferibili le pareti solide che mostrano anche una riproduzione migliore dei transienti di bassa frequenza rispetto ad alcune costruzioni moderne con pareti interne in cartongesso e leggermente flessibili.
c) Un pianoterra è preferibile a un primo piano, tranne che per quelle case nelle quali le strutture dei pavimenti siano in calcestruzzo o comunque solide.
Cambiamento dell’acustica della sala di ascolto
Cambiamenti piuttosto modesti nell’arredamento di una stanza possono cambiare in maniera alquanto significativa le sue proprietà acustiche. Se nelle pareti ci sono già dei quadri provate a toglierli e noterete immediatamente un cambiamento significativo nel suono proveniente dai Vostri diffusori! Non Vi stiamo suggerendo di togliere tutti i quadri e lasciare la stanza spoglia, piuttosto il contrario perché i quadri scompongono le pareti altrimenti lisce generando solitamente meno risonanze discontinue di alta frequenza ed eco fluttuante3.
Le tende rappresentano un altro elemento che può cambiare il suono della Vostra sala di ascolto nelle frequenze medio/alte.
A queste frequenze le tende pesanti assorbono maggiormente il suono e conferiscono alle ottave superiori una qualità più morbida e meno riverberante. Viceversa se la Vostra sala in questo intervallo di frequenze ha un suono troppo smorto, delle tende sottili lo renderanno più vivo e brillante. Per quanto concerne il suono alle basse frequenze esso è ampiamente dominato dalle dimensioni e dalla costruzione della sala. Tuttavia mobili di grosse dimensioni hanno il loro ruolo nel comportamento della sala relativamente alle basse frequenze e vale la pena di provare diversi posizionamenti degli stessi.
Posizionamento dei diffusori
Si è detto una volta che una coppia di diffusori economici con il giusto posizionamento è in grado di riprodurre il suono meglio di un prodotto molto più caro posizionato in maniera scorretta. Nonostante questa sia in qualche modo un'esagerazione, rimane vero che cambiare la posizione dei Vostri altoparlanti avrà sul suono un'incidenza molto maggiore che qualsiasi altra variabile sotto il Vostro controllo.
Essendo i "xxx" "xxx" dei diffusori a pavimento la loro altezza è stata studiata: mettendoli sul pavimento e ascoltando la musica seduti in un normale salotto Vi troverete sull'asse corretto.
Lo spazio tra i diffusori dipende dalle dimensioni della Vostra sala di ascolto e dalla distanza tra il punto in cui state seduti e i diffusori stessi. Come regola generale non dovrebbero stare più vicini di 1,5 mt (5ft) e lo spazio tra di essi non dovrebbe superare la distanza dal punto in cui state seduti per l'ascolto. Una buona regola è che la posizione dei due diffusori e dell'ascoltatore formino un triangolo equilatero di cui ascoltatore e diffusori stiano ai vertici.
La posizione dei diffusori rispetto alle pareti della sala di ascolto può avere un effetto di rilievo sulla riproduzione, in modo particolare alle basse frequenze. Solitamente avvicinando i diffusori alle pareti i bassi aumenteranno in rapporto alle frequenze medie e alte.
Una posizione troppo vicina alle pareti, o peggio in un angolo, genererà troppi bassi dando luogo a rimbombi.
In linea di massima si raccomanda che tra i diffusori e le pareti ci sia uno spazio compreso tra 0,5 (2½ ft) e 1,5 mt (5 ft), ma vale la pena fare delle prove fino a ottenere il suono più accettabile. Si provi anche a rendere impari lo spazio tra le due pareti più vicine, per esempio la proporzione di 0,5 mt (2½ ft) a 1,5 mt (5 ft) per le due pareti può dare risultati eccellenti.
Si è parlato della distanza dei diffusori dalla parete nel contesto delle basse frequenze, ma è ugualmente opportuno dire che anche l'informazione stereofonica in un piano frontale migliorerà se la parete posteriore si trova ad almeno 0,5 mt (2½ ft) dal retro dei diffusori.
La scelta della parete (tra le quattro) vicino alla quale collocare i diffusori dipende in gran parte dalla sistemazione dei Vostri mobili. Tuttavia, ripetiamo che merita una prova l'opzione della parete più lunga in opposizione a quella più corta.
In ultimo la simmetria: per un bilanciamento ottimale dell'informazione stereofonica le condizioni di interferenza degli ostacoli su ciascun diffusore dovrebbero essere acusticamente le più simili possibile.

Amplificatore, unità di controllo e sorgenti sonore
Finale di potenza
Grazie alla sua impedenza resistiva lineare, il "xxx" "xxx" 3 è un diffusore facile da pilotare per qualsiasi amplificatore. Ha inoltre il pregio di un'alta sensibilità (90 dB di pressione acustica prodotta con 1 W di potenza a 1 mt di distanza (su 8Ω).
Di conseguenza i limiti di potenza in uscita raccomandati per l'amplificatore sono:
MINIMO................................................................................ 50W RMS4
MASSIMO............................................................................200W RMS
(su 8Ω resistivi).
Indicando questi limiti è necessario precisare che è quasi impossibile per un produttore di diffusori specificare il valore del requisito di potenza in uscita dell'. Esso dipende completamente dal tipo di musica riprodotta, dalle dimensioni della sala di ascolto e dai livelli di suono preferiti dall'ascoltatore(i).
Il "xxx" "xxx" 3 è dotato di tipo di APOC5 particolarmente sensibile, pertanto sarebbe ragionevole non indicare il limite superiore della potenza dell'amplificatore ed è sempre meglio avere un amplificatore con un alta potenza in uscita poiché ciò permette di avere ampio spazio per la riproduzione dei transienti; al contrario se la potenza in uscita dell'amplificatore è troppo bassa si verificherà la distorsione del segnale chiamata clipping6.
In realtà il diffusore verrebbe alimentato con corrente continua e le prestazioni generali sarebbero di qualità inferiore.
La "xxx" ha aperto il proprio settore di ricerca elettronica allo scopo di effettuare ricerche approfondite su diffusori attivi, amplificatori e altri dispositivi elettronici. I risultati di queste ricerche sono prodotti come Active1, MPA810 e CU810, che sono stati introdotti già nel mercato. Il 1987 vedrà un'ulteriore gamma di componenti elettronici specificatamente prodotti per perfezionare le prestazioni dei Vostri diffusori. Vi suggeriamo di rivolgerVi al Vostro fornitore per una dimostrazione comparativa di questi prodotti.
Unità di controllo
Sebbene operi con tensioni basse piuttosto che con correnti di una certa entità, come nel caso del finale di potenza, l'unità di controllo è una parte critica della Vostra catena. Sceglietela con cura con la consapevolezza che il test più importante dei componenti audio è un ascolto critico.
Nel settore ricerca della "xxx" ci sono molte combinazioni diverse di unità di controllo, amplificatori e sorgenti sonore, come lettori CD o analogici, sintonizzatori etc. La nostra esperienza ci ha dimostrato che ogni unità (per non parlare dei cavi di interconnessione) rappresenta una variabile e la catena finale di ascolto è il risultato di una combinazione di variabili che sarebbe necessario ascoltare con attenzione prima di fare una scelta.
Lettore CD, giradischi analogico e sintonizzatore
Le indicazioni contenute nel precedente paragrafo sono egualmente valide per questi dispositivi. I lettori CD sono sul mercato da qualche anno e sono già stati raggiunti importanti progressi. Allo stato attuale il lettore CD, con le migliori incisioni fatte su questo strumento, è in grado di proporsi come un'eccezionale sorgente sonora, assolutamente all'altezza dei più raffinati dispositivi con i quali è associato.

Circuito di protezione "xxx" "xxx"
Il sistema di diffusori è completamente protetto da segnali di ingresso troppo alti. Il circuito di protezione diventa operativo non appena uno qualsiasi degli altoparlanti raggiunge il limite superiore di sicurezza. Un sovraccarico dell'altoparlante per le frequenze basse, di quello per le frequenze basse e medie e del tweeter avrà come risultato che il tweeter verrà temporaneamente silenziato con una conseguente perdita delle alte frequenze. Quando si verifica questa situazione è preferibile ridurre il volume oppure spegnere il finale di potenza. Una volta che la condizione di sovraccarico o difetto sarà eliminata il normale funzionamento del diffusore verrà ripristinato automaticamente.

Accessori
In questo paragrafo vogliamo trattare brevemente di due accessori del Vostro diffusore: punte e cavi.
Fissare le punte al "xxx" "xxx" 3 è semplice: scoprite le cavità filettate svitando le piccole cupole di plastica collocate sulla base e avvitarvi le punte.
Le punte, di cui sono stati forniti due set insieme ai Vostri diffusori, possono favorire la riproduzione del suono in due modi diversi. In primo luogo, grazie al fatto che l'area di contatto con la base di diffusori è molto piccola la loro interfaccia genera sul punto di contatto una pressione migliaia di volte superiore. Ciò aumenta la stabilità dei diffusori e migliora la resistenza ai movimenti della cassa generati dal suono.
In secondo luogo le punte riducono l'area di unione tra il pavimento e la cassa. Questo fattore assume particolare rilievo nel caso di un pavimento risonante, che può essere visto come una gigantesca tavola armonica unita alla cassa dei diffusori.
Una volta che le punte verranno fissate si noteranno due tipi di miglioramento della riproduzione del suono: uno relativo ai transienti sulle basse frequenze e l'altro alle immagini stereofoniche che saranno un po' più precise grazie alla maggiore stabilità dei diffusori.
L'argomento dei cavi tra finale di potenza e diffusori è stato trattato nel paragrafo 3 (Installazione).
Rimane ancora la questione dei cavi di interconnessione tra i vari dispositivi e il finale di potenza. Sul mercato è presente un certo numero di cavi di interconnessione di eccellente qualità ed è certo che tra di essi vi siano differenze udibili. Suggeriamo pertanto che vengano scelti ottimi cavi creati a questo scopo, tenendo in considerazione le pubblicazioni in proposito.
