THE CITY
THAT WREN
NEVER SAW
(A drawing BY Paul Draper)

"London was, but is no more."
JOHN EVELYN

On the 2nd of September 1666 fire broke out in a baker’s hop in Pudding Lane : three days later seven eights of the city of London had been reduced to rubble and ashes, its Cathedral in ruins, its centres of commerce utterly destroyed. The fire spread westwards to the Temple until the King himself ordered the blowing up of buildings to clear a gap large enough to halt its progress.
To a populace still reeling from the aftermath of the Black Death, the Great Fire must have seemed like the premature arrival of the Day of Judgement, but as the terrible flames died down they revealed an opportunity for rational urban renewal on a vast and hitherto unforeseen scale.
The drawing by Paul Draper shows the Phoenix that failed to rise from the ashes.
When Christopher Wren was born in Wiltshire in 1632, the City of London was a tangled maze of muddy streets, crowded lanes and cobbled yards. Jutting upper stories and overhanging eaves crowded out sun and air, while beneath the colourful swinging trade signs, the merchants and yeomen of London conducted business that spanned the world.

LA CITTÀ CHE WREN
NON VIDE MAI

(Disegno di Paul Draper)

"Londra era, ma ora non è più." JOHN EVELYN

CAUTION: Do not look directly into the bright LED light. Patients must close their eyes during facial examinations.
IMPORTANT: Before initial use, please charge the internal lithium ion battery for a minimum of 4 hours using the supplied USB charging cable. See “Battery & Charging” for details.
CAUTION: If your DermLite is used for immersion fluid dermoscopy, place the fluid only on the skin and then place the extended Faceplate (FP) on top of the fluid. Do not allow fluid to contact the Charging Port (CP).
Hold your DermLite DL4 so that the LEDs are aimed in the direction of the lesion to be examined. Place the device approximately 1” (~25mm) from the skin. Push and hold the power button (PB), located at the left side of the handle, to turn on the device. To toogle between non-polarized mode for immersion fluid dermoscopy and cross-polarized illumination, push either of the two mode buttons (MB) located at the head. In cross-polarized mode, pushing both mode buttons at the same time toggles between two brightness levels.
Look through the lens with your eye placed about 1 to 2” (25-50 mm) above your DermLite. Move the device closer or farther away from the skin to obtain the desired image focus. For dermoscopy with skin contact, or for camera use, rotate the Focus Dial (FD) to focus the image. The position “0” indicates the ideal distance for photography. To turn off your DermLite, push the power button (PB). To save power, the unit automatically turns off after 3 minutes.

Bio
I graduated in Foreign Languages and Literatures in 1988, and specialised in English, French, and Spanish. In Middle and High School I had Latin as a major subject, which gave me the ability to understand grammar and speech logic. Latin helps immensely to build up the concepts you want to express.
My thesis was about the processes involved in children's learning of the English phonological system. In 1999 I started a project called Green English, see:
Green English project,
which is still going on.
This led to the publishing of a series of 3 books for children, centered on CLIL (Content and Language Integrated Learning).
In parallel, I kept working as a freelance translator, mainly technical and scientific.
I have translated 25 published books including botany and gardening manuals, multimedia training packages on oil engineering, thrillers, books on yoga and oriental philosophy and teachings. Moreover, I have been working in marketing and export sales for various companies, which has made me confident in dealing with many different subjects.

I use SDL Trados, MemoQ, MemSource, Across.
With more than twenty years of experience, I have acquired a methodical but creative approach to texts, making a point of being accurate and passionate in helping people understand each other, both in interpreting and in translating.
My customers come back to me because they know that they can count on my seriousness and reliability.
