Alright, I reserved a table for 12 persons at Caf Sternbck, [url removed] . Your best bet would be to follow the Stadtmitte signs, park in the Marktgarage and then walk. Sternbck is pretty much in the middle of downtown, close to the Dom (can't miss that). If the map is not enough, call my cell phone [phone removed] ), and I'll try to give you clearer directions.
Feel free to call or write to me directly should you have any other questions/problems.
To Chris: sorry you can't make it this time, maybe next time!

it just dawned on me, that I have a free house and a double bed to offer to someone coming from far away - Chris, how about you? - offer valid for one night only : Sat to Sun. You can bring your partner/ kids / dogs must be cat friendly :)
Sleeping bags will be appreciated , although not required. Let me know if anybody is interested.

After further consideration, I agree, it should be in town and close - walking distance. So from my suggestions for dinner only Schtzenhof or Nikolaushof could do. They are next to Kppele up on the hill and it is a walk of 20 mins to half an hour depending how you walk :) It has the advantage that they give you a fabulous view on the town, provided you booked the right table :)
Also it is worth taking into account when booking, that it is the weekend when Kiliani Fest starts in Wrzburg, so it can be very busy in many places.

Unfortunately, I don't know any of the suggested restaurants/beer gardens, but if they are outside of town, they are hard to find for people who are not from here (and for me, I don't have any sense of direction or orientation ;) ). Sternbck is a great idea for coffee, and easy to find in the middle of downtown. Backfele is within walking distance. They have all kinds of food, their steaks are yummy. If Schtzenhof is within walking distance from downtown, great with me. I'll look into it.
To Chris: come on! What's 4 hours for a powwow! You would meet US and see Wrzburg! 2 for 1, what more can you wish for! (peer pressure ;) )

If you are really located in Praha-zpad, your best bet is going via Plzen and Rozvadov. You'll make Wrzburg in 4 hours. I know - I did part of that strecth last weekend. If (as I suspect), you call Dresden "Praha-zpad", it won't take you any longer than that. You should be glad you don't live in Praha-vchod!

I think everybody would be happy to see you there, Chris. Consider it as a trip where you can combine pleasure with business. You can even write it off your taxes if you do it right. If you live anywhere near the Czech border, as you indicated, you won't have to travel much farther than I do.

I was thinking of the beer gardens in Steinbachtal. There are two: Postkutscherl - smaller but very neat and has good food - mostly Italian. Volksgarten is a very big one, food is rather simple there but cheap and huge portions.
This, however, needs a car to get to, and I dont have one. So it depends how many people would have cars.
Something more scenic and with a better view would be Schtzenhof of Nikolaushof (excellent food), we could walk there if we wanted some excersise before dinner... :) or Alter Kranen is a nice beergarden, but I dont know about the food there.
I dont know Backfelle at all, so I cant say anything about it. I know "Sternbck" is a nice place to sit outside as well...
I am sure it is gonna be fun!

Please feel free to suggest a restaurant, I was thinking along the lines of Schnborn for coffee and Backfele for dinner, because you can sit inside and outside in both. However, if you know of a better place, pls. let me know so I can make reservations.
