I have tried quite a few tools, but I invariably return back to Dejavu. It's a complete package with most everything you need to get up to speed when translating. For a serious translator the DVX3 Pro would be the recommended version.- When you type, AutoWrite is trying to guess for the Terminology Database what you want to write, which improves speed. - In DVX3 you can choose if you want source and target side by side (standard), or source above target. Source above target makes it much easier to see where you are in the translation. - Spell checker on the fly. You can right click on the words that have a wiggly line below, and change the spelling then and there. - I fin that numbered tags makes it easier to see if they are placed correctly in target, instead of named like in some other tools. - All languages are available when you want to create a project, instead of being limited. - It's easy to switch between project view (all documents in one view) and document view. - Live Preview is available for major document types (Office documents). - Formating (bold, italics etc.) is shown. - It is easy get going with Dejavu even if you are new to it.. Also Atril has put out quite a few Youtube videos to help you if you need more instructions. - Minor updates are free. - And not least: If you need help, there is a discussion group where the users help each other with advice. 7 out of 7 found this review helpful. Strict project oriented approach Review by Wieland Haselbauer . I have used Dejavu since 1994 and still prefer it instead of MemoQ and SDL Studio. DejavuX3 has benefits in particular when you translate or edit large projects with hundreds of files located in trees and subtrees. In DejavuX3, you can have them all in one single list view and/or switch over to one file view as you like. The tree structure is maintained in the project. Even if you have files with the same name, but with different content in different subtrees, you see where you are and you can search&replace in all files at the same time. Imagine you have to correct a term at the end of your work in a project including 600+ html files or a 400 pages manual split into chapters and appendices. In DejavuX3, this operation means a one time search and replace only. MemoQ fills your screen with clutter if you want to open hundreds of files at the same time, and SDL Studio still assumes that you translate your job from heading to end one file after the other. I like it so much that I use DejavuX even for revision of SDL Studio and MemoQ files, which can be imported and exported easily. It took me a while to get used to the new ribbon-interface, but now I am quite happy with it.DVX and DVX2 were already very intuitive, and so is this version. Excellent value for money, backwards compatibility with previous DVX versions so no need to have several versions on your computer or to buy new versions at the same time as co-workers/agencies. I never do a translation without DVX3, however small it might be. Great for consistency checking, sorting on word level, on sentence level (alphabetically, fuzzies, pending, etc.), numerals checking. DeJavU is now nearly dead software, once it was very good Review by Peter Leeflang . I have owned DejaVu X3 since it was released first, even tested in the far past DVX2.Once DejaVu was a great software that was regularly improved and kept up with the market. Unfortunately that is not the case anymore since the main developer passed away. Sporadically there are maintenance updates and there are every year rumors a new DVX4 shall be released but it never was and any suggestion to that extent were removed from the Atril site. The problem with this DVX3 version is that despite its quite good integration of its different components, a lot still requires checking the documentation and that documentation is poor. It is also lagging behind in compatibility with other tools that have a far more dominant position in the market. I can, for example, still not simply import most SDL formats into DV. What do I tell my customers then? Or do I get them at all then? Also, with larger files I often have to deal with a buggy DV that collapses showing an error message. IT looks like it has a memory leak somewhere in the database and that has been going on for ages now. No, it is not related to my own configuration and available resources. It simply cannot handle large files. Additionally, when a customer sends me a translated file from other tools, there is no way I can provide a 'change track' type of output file. Overall the application is quite stale and no new re;leases are likely to ever appear. It is almost dead software That is also why the user group is not very active. We have not found out how to START or where to start using it or to start understanding how to use it.Yet we are sure it is better than Trados Studio as translators whom we admire wrote on their website that they prefer it to Trados Studio: they wrote it is easier for them to first import the project into Dèjà Vu, work on it on Dèjà Vu, and then re-export it into Trados Studio format, than directly in Trados Studio. We tried to follow several video-courses offered by Atril, but we have still remained clueless as to where to start from in its interface, so far. We asked Atril for help, but they only gave us vague, general reassurances. After all the money we invested in it, we feel that Atril should at least send us a free copy of "Dèjà Vu for Dummies, if it exists. Or a six-month personal one to-one flexible course for free. Anyway, we'll keep trying. |
