CAT marking and/or hash symbols | Oct 5, 2011 |
I generally mark a sentence as provisional in Wordfast if I am not yet happy with it. If I am unsure about a specific word or phrase, I often mark it with three hash symbols (###). I prefer this to an asterisk, as asterisks are occasionally used elsewhere in the text, whereas a hash symbol is easy to search for.

I write them down on paper and go back over the list at the end of the translation.

using. In Across, I leave a note and do not close the segment, in Trados 2007, I do not close the segment and go through it again later when doing the QA and Trados 2009, the same as in Across.

I also highlight in green, but only because it seems to catch my attention more than yellow.

I usually translate with Studio and I don't close/confirm the segment.

Usually I highlight them and come back later, because things often spring to mind when you least expect it, in that tip-of-the-tongue phenomenon where something you were wondering about suddenly comes to you later without consciously seeking it out. However, it sometimes depends depends on the company I have when the doubt crops up. I use the CAT tool to add a comment, so that when I come to revise the segment I know what my query was. This automatically highlights the segment for me in the CAT tool and also lets me display all the segments to which I've added comments in the form of a list.

DVX (and new DVX2) lets you mark sentences (segments) as "pending" while you translate. I love this feature, because you can filter and view "only pending sentences". The QA features in general are what makes me use DVX as my standard CAT tool, no matter whether it is a "Trados job", a "Transit job" or a "MemoQ job".

I use either ??? either XXX at the end of the tough term or sentence, but I chose the *** option because the base is the same, just a combination of characters that can mean only "warning, problems!" and they are easy to look for later with Control+F

I seldom leave terms for later but if I do I mark them with a comment. S
