Answered "On my computer..." Mar 28, 2012

But I also wanted to add USB flash drive and external hard disk, as well.

The computer is RAID1, which means a complete copy of absolutely everything - programs, work data, OS, my preferred work environment, other settings, and the kitchen sink, to boot - are saved in the event of a hard disk crash

Which reminds me, I should be backing up everything I've done today since lunchtime.

Happy translating!

All of the above Mar 28, 2012

- While I'm working on the project it's on my computer
- Once it's finished, it gets copied to an external hard drive
- When I have time/inclination it also gets burned to a DVD. At that point, it gets deleted off my computer.
- The DVD is stored in my filing cabinet.
- If I need to work on another computer that is not on my network, it gets moved via a USB flash drive (rare, but it did happen once).

I'm copying all my files onto an external hard disk on a weekly basis, except when I forget to do it... :-s

On my computer + Dropbox + Mozy back-up Mar 28, 2012

On my computer which backs up to the cloud via Mozy every evening. I'm also working between my study and the kitchen at the moment to supervise my 5 month-old puppy, so all the files I'm using are on Dropbox so I can easily pick up and carry on no matter where I am. My netbook has Dropbox too so I can also work on there if I want to work when I'm out and about. Invaluable!

What's that? Mar 28, 2012

I'd need a fuller definition of "translation data" before being able to answer.
I keep a folder called "WORK" on my PC with all my work-related content (client folders, billing, TMs, glossaries, etc) which I back up onto a pen drive more or less daily, or at least a couple of times a week.

I also have another (backup) PC which is actually faster and better than my main one, so I keep a copy of my stuff updated on that too... In fact I think I'll go and try out WF on it now t

In fact I think I'll go and try out WF on it now to see if this morning's bug is PC-specific or generalised (WF Classic is apparently not working today if the user is offline - which IMO seems really iffy, as it's supposed to be a standalone application - and it asks you to renew licence but the their website is down...)

I just send an e-mail to my own account with attached zip file. This way I can backup my own files, generally document, ttx, TM etc.

Computer and Email Mar 28, 2012

I save everything on my computer and every so often back everything up on an external hard drive.

When I am translating a large file, I back it up as I progress and email myself the file to make sure that I have it in case the computer dies on me. When the file has been proofed and sent off to the client, I delete the files from my inbox.
