How to merge two termbases with the same structure, which already exist in MultiTerm 2011? Thread poster: Małgorzata Gardocka

Hello, I would like to ask how, or if it is possible at all, to merge two or more termbases, which already exist in SDL Trados MultiTerm 2011. All bases have the same structure. What should I do, if e.g. I wanted to merge my base of medical terms with my base of technical terms? Best regards, Malgorzata

Have you tried exporting one of them and importing it into a COPY of the other one? BR S

All my termbases have the same structure, including notes and definitions and having suffered using MultiTerm convert or trying to export and import to merge termbases, this version of Glossary Converter is a godsend as it allows for index fields such as Definitions and Notes. You can simply convert termbases to excel and merge the excel files or paste the contents of one excel file to another and use Glossary Converter to make one termbase. It works like a dream and there's no problems with term recognition in Studio. ▲ Collapse | | | Małgorzata Gardocka Poland Local time: 03:24 Member (2010) German to Polish + ... Hi rich., I will have a look at the Glossary Converter you have written about.

MT can't add languages on the fly and the import fails. Cheers GG | | | Małgorzata Gardocka Poland Local time: 03:24 Member (2010) German to Polish + ... TOPIC STARTER
Hi Grzegorz, I only work in Polish and German and both termbases are set in these languages. Perhaps I should add that I created my termbases from scratch, with no templates in Excel (i.e. I added terms to them during the process of translation in SDL Trados Studio 2011 Freelance). They are very simple.

Unlike in DVX or memoQ, in the Multiterm twisted logic, the German and the German (Germany) are different languages. Make sure it's not your case. [Edited at 2013-03-05 18:43 GMT] Hi Bernard, Excuse the ignorant question on my part, but what file exactly is meant to be opened? How can I open it? Or where do I find the command "Open file to export"? As to adding multiple Termbases to one project that has to be translated, I'm aware of that possibility, but I just want to know, if there is another one, if one has a project to translate, which covers two ore more given subjects.
Sorry, if my post was unclear to you. I meant: Start Multiterm Under File, Open the file (TB) you want to export and follow the steps listed in my previous post. Same thing, once exported, close the TB you exported. Open the TB you want to import it into and again follow the steps listed in my previous post. ... then I'd recommend you take the route Rich mentioned. The process would be easy: 1. Drag and drop the first termbase on the Glossary Converter icon 2. Drag and drop the second termbase on the Glossary Converter icon 3. This gives you two spreadsheets containing all the terms only 4. Copy and past one into the other so you now have one spreadsheet 5. Drag and drop this new spreadsheet onto the Glossary Converter and you get your new termbase ...
