I don't have payment 'issues.' This option was not available. I see so-called 'Anonymous' a.k.a. Proz.com staff polls are back in force again. What's the excuse this time for polls by the person-who-shall-go-unnamed?
The only payment issue I might have is late payment or non-payment. All payment terms (method of payment, date for payment, bank fees…) are discussed before I take the assignment. | | | Paulinho Fonseca Brazil Local time: 03:12 Member (2011) English to Portuguese + ...
I had only one payment issue, but that does not count as 'they' are scammers.

Every single time, the two main agencies issue late payments. They must focus on the "free" in "freelancing". They don't believe we have rent, bills and groceries to pay. One issued a payment over a month late, despite having a 60 days payment policy in a signed contract. I told them I should charge them late fees, to which they reply: we don't have a late fee policy. I am actively looking for other clients so I can ditch them. PM me for their names. | | | Tina Vonhof (X) Canada Local time: 00:12 Dutch to English + ... None or it's me | Nov 1, 2017 |
In all the years I have been translating I have had maybe two or three occasions when a client didn't pay after several reminders. It was never a large amount, so in the end I just let it go. I have to say that I'm not very strict on when I should receive payment, as long as I get it eventually. If I don't receive payment within a month or two, the first thing I need to check is: did I send an invoice and when? Most often that's what the 'issue' turns out to be. When I then send my ... I stopped working for agencies who want me to use their online invoicing system, it is just too much time consuming.

The last time I received a wire transfer from Europe I had to pay a high fee. If I remember correctly, it was US$ 65.00. Skrill can also be complicated. Also, some clients' online billing portals are so confusing that I prefer not to work with them. Finally, one of my main clients sends me a PDF document that I am supposed to print out, fill in with the correct numbers, sign, scan, and e-mail back. I "cheat" and use a photo of my signature, but the method is not ideal. ... See more The last time I received a wire transfer from Europe I had to pay a high fee. The few late payment issues I encountered are history. Therefore, the true answer is, none. | | | Mario Freitas Brazil Local time: 03:12 Member (2014) English to Portuguese + ... Reminders for late payments | Nov 2, 2017 |
Thankfully these are becoming quite rare lately, but I hate to have to remind clients of my due payments. I usually give them three extra days, and on the fourth day, I send a reminder email. I would much prefer if all my clients paid through Payoneer or Skrill instead of Paypal, but many still insist in PayPal. I hope that changes too. | | | To report site rules violations or get help, contact a site moderator: You can also contact site staff by submitting a support request » Poll: What kind of payment issue do you most often encounter?
