I've only been to a couple. It's not that I don't enjoy them, just that I'm usually too busy working. | | | Julian Holmes Japan Local time: 10:34 Member (2011) Japanese to English
I'm a member of the Japan Association of Translators (JAT). LSPs also attend conventions and other events, but AFAICR this has not led to any new business. I have, however, made some really good friends. After all, we do have a lot in common which makes striking up new friendships a lot easier. | | | Very definitely | Nov 7, 2017 |
The big advantage for me is that I attend powwows where many colleagues translate the other way, i.e. from English or other languages into Danish, and they refer clients to me with jobs from Danish into English, or they collaborate on multi-language jobs, where I translate into English. I’ve never attended a powwow, but I’ve been contemplating the idea of organizing one. I’ve attended some other in-person events but these have not led to new business. Even so I've had jobs referred to me and have referred jobs to other Prozians. | | |
but I have plenty of work, and for me that is not the purpose of the conferences. | | | severe attended one | Nov 7, 2017 |

I got a few good clients from translators virtual gatherings. I've never participated in a physical gathering, but I might. Only to meet other translators I know only virtually, not with the least intent of professional networking. Unless there is one such meeting with outsourcers and potential clients, like a fair, which would be very positive professionally. But translators gathering are social events, not professional. | | | To report site rules violations or get help, contact a site moderator: You can also contact site staff by submitting a support request » Poll: Have contacts you made at powwows or other translator gatherings led to work?
