Only one reservation | Jan 26, 2006 |
The site is very well designed, but I think it could be a little less "busy." By this I mean that I would feel less overwhelmed if there were fewer colors and not as many different type sizes. Right now I am lookng at 10 or 11 different colors and 10 different type sizes, styles, or fonts. | | | Eye-friendly colour scheme! | Jan 26, 2006 |

The ProZ staff have made a splendid choice with its eye-friendly colour scheme in green and yellow. The site is a pure joy compared to other sites with flashing purple text and running objects across the screen. I do however agree with Sven concerning outsourcers' chances to find suitable translators. We'll have to think about other solutions. I send this post to say that maybe it's not SUPER attractive, but it's SUPER useful, and for me, that's the more important. Please go on like this, and don't sacrify anything to make it more attractive! I think that the better "atraction power" is when I (or any other Proz member) talk to other translator and tell them: It's grat!! Sorry for my english, it's a passive language! Best regards Olivier | | | It may not be fancy.. | Jan 26, 2006 |
but the site is extremely clear, which in my opinion is more important.

Woodstock (X) Germany Local time: 08:19 German to English + ... Well. since you asked........ | Jan 26, 2006 |
I think the colors are REALLY unattractive (but I don't particularly like anything in yellow or dun/khaki - so that's just me) and the busyness, as mentioned, caused by many different fonts, their sizes and colors could be optimized. Otherwise I REALLY love the site and spend a lot of time here, using the fantastic features. So it's what's inside that counts, I suppose. | | | not pleasing and not attractive to my eyes (I voted poor)... | Jan 26, 2006 |
...but quite functional and, for such a rich site, well organized and user friendly. So, I'd rather keep it as it is, you know... | | | Could you expand upon your points, Sven and Erik? | Jan 26, 2006 |

Where do you see other fonts? What system/browser are you using?

Clarification about image scaling | Jan 26, 2006 |
The members' pictures are currently scaled (to 50 resp. 100 pixel width) simply by removing rows and columns. The resulting distortion is in many cases most disturbing. ProZ.com should use some clever algorithm, like Lanczos filter.

Henry wrote: Erik, Sven, could you expand on these points please? The main problem is that outsourcers have to invest so much time with wading through different pages, reading how-to's before they're able to send off a job (either for posting a transltion job on the site or with sending out enquiry mails to translators). These outsourcers have of course their own database with freelance translators, however sometimes an end-client comes up with demand for other language combinations or other fields - so the outsourcers need to find somebody quickly. Quite often my clients (who have found me here) tell me that it took them too long time to reach that point when they finally could send off the enquiry or place the job. We really need to find ways in order to minimize the valuable search time an outsourcer needs to invest. After all, why do we have this huge and very detailled database of translators? I would like to suggest setting up a working group whose task could be to find ways and means how to speed up the searching time, and then make suggestions to the ProZ staff. What do you say about this? The group could be formed by Sven and me, letting us do brainstorming and exchange ideas. Who's in favour? Erik | | | Well put Erik! | Jan 26, 2006 |
