Experience and background:
In 2010 I graduated from university by gaining a Master’s degree in Translation and Interpreting Studies. Main focus of my university study programme had been analysis, interpretation and translation of legal, technical and economic texts. I gained a thorough knowledge of the external and internal structure of national and international documents; particularly focusing on the European legislation. As example of the studied documents I could name European directives, contracts, and political speeches on diverse topics.

During my university studies I took part in an exchange study programme and lived and studied in Germany for four months. This stay helped me extend my knowledge of the nuances of spoken language and regional differences in lexis and pronunciation. On the academic level, I have acquired a deep knowledge of modern English and German literature by taking up various literary analysis courses.

My internship in a culture and communication skills consultancy in London gave me an invaluable insight into the process of material development and project management. After initial work on language material development for the European Commission, I became a sole reviewer for Slovak language learning materials. Including initial admission tests, course plans and exit tests, these materials have been used for further language development of the European Commission employees. This role involved research, translation and linguistic expertise to identify relevant sources to support Slovak language training in the European Commission.

During and after my university studies I have been working as a freelance translator for various agencies. Not only has this position given me further experience in translating a variety of legal and technical documents, but most importantly I have learned about the particularities of translation job market. Moreover, having to alternate between university studies, full time job and freelance translation, I have developed self organisational skills, sense of time management and eye for detail.
