Translation - English The device produces a magnetic field 30,000 times as powerful as that of the earth. As such, metals may fly quickly towards the magnet, potentially endangering the subject. Therefore, all metals are forbidden in the area of the magnet. It is of critical importance to adhere to safety precautions and to heed the MRI operator's instructions during the experiment, thus eliminating the risks. That notwithstanding, the MRI may induce minor discomfort due to noise and/or mild fear and/or claustrophobia.
The MRI device produces noises of different types during the scan, during its proper operation. The subject will be asked to use earplugs and/or headphones to reduce discomfort due to the noise. If you are particularly sensitive to noise, please let us know. If the noise level causes an excessive level of discomfort, you may request to cease the scan at any time.
During the scan, the subject will be requested to lie within a narrow space for an extended period of time without moving. Certain individuals may experience anxiety (generalized sense of fear) or claustrophobia (uncontrolled fear resulting from being in a restricted space) as a result of their lying in a confined space. As an American-born academic who immigrated eleven years ago to Israel, I started to translate research-related documents from Hebrew to English during my M.Sc. studies in Biochemistry at Bar Ilan University. When requests from advisers and colleagues for a "one-time favor" increased, I established a free-lance business in translation and editing in order that my clients may mobilize their research budgets for payment.
