Source text - English As a kid I kept thinking the insurance man was my father. Not that I knew him mind (I only met him the once), but I heard him often enough. I can remember my mother‟s voice pleading with him. Was it over money? We weren‟t poor, although my father – my real father that is – was dead. He had been a diplomat, so he didn‟t exactly leave us destitute.
But I got it into my head that my mother hadn't the money to pay the insurance man and he sought payment in other ways. I should say at this stage that my mother was an uncommonly beautiful woman. Everyone's mother is beautiful I know in the eyes of her offspring, but Mam's beauty was universally acknowledged. When in her prime, her bright blue eyes and svelte figure attracted many suitors which, apart from the insurance man, included medical students, members of the corps diplomatique and even an IRA man. The last mentioned was a friend of her older brother, Tomás.
She found out that Uncle Tomás was a member of the IRA one day when, as a young girl, she was tidying the house for Muddy (my grandmother) and discovered his revolver in a hollowed-out book. It‟s in my late father‟s study now among real books, like a sort of heirloom.
She tried to deny or at least play down any republican involvement later in her life. However, she always had a soft spot for Michael Collins and frequently spoke of the waste of such a „fine strap of a man‟. All this of course happened before she settled down and married the diplomat, Patrick Foley. Well, not that she really did settle down.

Este último era un amigo de su hermano mayor, Tomás.
Descubrió que el tío Tomás era miembro del IRA cuando era una muchacha, un día mientras limpiaba la casa de Muddy (mi abuela), en el que encontró su revólver en un libro hueco. Está en el despacho de mi padre, entre libros auténticos, como si de una herencia se tratase.
Quiso negarlo o, como mínimo, restarle importancia a cualquier participación republicana. Sin embargo, siempre sintió debilidad por Michael Collins. Hablaba con frecuencia del desperdicio que era "un hombre con tan buena planta". Todo esto ocurrió, por supuesto, antes de casarse con el diplomático, Patrick Foley. En fin, esto no significa que realmente sentara la cabeza.

Source text - English There were sports over the weekend. Must have been. Reds and Mets, NBA draft. Something vital had to have occurred within the NFL's endless melodrama machine.
I missed it all. Sorry.
Well, almost all. I managed to catch some of Reds-Mets Sunday, walking Lucy the Wonderdog in the park, in a purple haze of post-wedding wonder, listening on the phone application. It was during the end of the suspended game. The Club lost. I think.
It's helpful and wonderful to disengage from your job for a few days, even if your job is something as airy as sports writing. Especially if the time off involves one of your kids' weddings.
I recommend it. The weddings, I mean.

Conseguí pillar una parte del Reds-Mets del domingo mientras paseaba por el parque a Lucy, la Perrita Maravilla; lo escuchaba en la aplicación del móvil, aún atrapado por una neblina púrpura de embeleso posnupcias. Fue durante el final del partido que se había suspendido. Perdieron los Reds. Creo.
Es positivo y maravilloso desconectar del trabajo durante unos días, incluso cuando ese trabajo es tan ligero como escribir crónica deportiva. Sobre todo si estar de vacaciones supone asistir a la boda de uno de tus hijos.
Os lo recomiendo. Me refiero a lo de las bodas.

But instead of seeking out available opportunities, she created a company to employ both disabled and fully abled people together. Called Good Reasons, the business is staffed with people that have autism and other developmental disabilities plus those without a disability in the production of all-natural dog treats from its Poughkeepsie and Brewster, Putnam County, locations.
"We're really about making jobs; creating jobs," said Sylvester, who has a doctorate in administration and management and is CEO of Community Based Services in North Salem, Westchester County, an agency that provides care and support services for people with autism and other developmental services, and the parent company of Good Reasons.
