O card preliminar do UFC 168 cumpriu sua função com louvor e abriu com chave de ouro a noite mais aguardada do ano no evento neste sábado (28), em Las Vegas. Em peso no ginásio do hotel MGM, a torcida brasileira teve altos e baixos ao acompanhar o aproveitamento de seus representantes.
Enquanto William ‘Patolino’ anotou triunfo por pontos diante de Bobby Voelker, o experiente Gleison ‘Tibau’ acabou nocauteado por Michael Johnson no segundo round e adiou seu sonho de entrar no Top 10 de sua divisão.
Fazendo a segunda luta da noite, Patolino, vice-campeão da segunda temporada do TUF Brasil, anotou sua primeira vitória no octógono do UFC ao dominar a disputa em pé e demonstrar calma e precisão nos golpes para anular o mais experiente Voelker, que com o terceiro revés seguido, pode dar adeus ao seu contrato em breve.
Parecendo ter muito mais do que as seis vitórias até então, o meio-médio (77 kg) brasileiro sempre caminhou para frente e adotou a postura de agressor. Com tranquilidade, o carioca de apenas 22 anos usou bem sua envergadura e frustrou o rival com esquivas completadas com diretos e cotoveladas, que terminaram por abrir um incomodo corte logo acima do nariz do americano.
Coberto com o sangue do adversário, Patolino foi declarado vencedor por decisão unânime dos jurados, que não tiveram dúvidas para anotar o primeiro triunfo do atleta que promete ser uma das maiores promessas do País no MMA dos últimos tempos.
Na penúltima apresentação do card preliminar, Tibau começou melhor e deixou claro que sobrava no quesito força, fator que facilitou para impor seu ritmo e dominar o centro do cage. No entanto, na segunda metade do assalto inicial, o americano pegou o tempo de luta e conectou golpes mais fortes, que incluíram um forte cruzado de direita, que fez o brasileiro acuar rapidamente.
No round seguinte, o veterano que fazia sua vigésima primeira disputa no torneio foi dominado e, em rápida troca franca de golpes, acabou beijando a lona ao sofrer um direto de encontro e, após cair em knockdown, receber mais dois socos que obrigaram o juiz a interromper o confronto.

The undercard of UFC 168 fulfilled its role commendably and opened the most awaited night of the year with a bang this Saturday (28) in Las Vegas. With a full crowd at the MGM hotel arena, Brazilian fans had their ups and downs accompanying the progress of their fighters.
While William ‘Patolina’ won on the scorecards against Bobby Voelker, the experienced Gleison ‘Tibau’ was KO’d by Michael Johnson in the second round and suffered a set back in his dream of oneday entering the Top 10 of his division.
In the second fight of the night, Patolino, runner-up from the second season of TUF Brazil, got his first victory in the UFC octagon after dominating the fight on foot and demonstrating poise and precision with his punches that helped neutralize the more experienced Voelker, who with his third consecutive defeat, can soon say goodbye to his contract.
Appearing to have much more than six victories to his credit, the Brazilian middle-weight (170 lbs) kept on the offensive and adopted an aggressive posture. With ease, the young 22 year-old Rio de Janeiro native used his reach to his advantage and frustrated his opponent with dodges followed by right punches and elbows, resulting in a troubling cut just above the American’s nose.
Covered with his opponent’s blood, Patolino was declared the winner by unanimous decision by the judges who had little trouble in giving the athlete his first victory and is set to be one of the most promising MMA stars in the country in recent times.
In the second-to-last show of the undercard, Tibau started off better and made it clear that he had more than enough strength, a factor which allowed him to control the rhythm and dominate the center of the cage. However, in the second half of the initial exchange, the American took control and connected harder punches, including a hard right cross that caused the Brazilian fighter to momentarily cover himself up.
In the following round, the veteran in his 21st fight was dominated and during a rapid exchange of blows was knocked to the canvas by a direct hit that was followed by two more punches after he had fallen, forcing the referee to stop the fight.
