In order to explain myself and my interest in translation, I first would like to give an overview of my professional career so far.

I have been working in communications since I was in high school. After handling different volunteer jobs to obtain the journalistic license (which is mandatory to work as a journalist in Italy), I started my career. While I was completing my undergraduate and postgraduate studies, in fact, I have been working for several editorial offices, mainly writing news and reports, managing the websites and social networks, handling press office tasks and conducting interviews. My work also helped me refining my interpersonal skills and building long-term contacts. In fact, during these years I had several opportunities to prove my ability to engage with people from different backgrounds and deliver information in different ways according to the audience.

My involvement in the non-profit sector is also deeply rooted in my past. Apart from my engagement in an animal welfare association started when I was 17 years old, during the last years I volunteered for two different environmental NGOs based in China and for an UK-based charity. During the time spent in Sichuan last summer, I handled part of the communications for the charity while conducting field trips and engaging with the beneficiaries of the NGO’s projects, mostly farmers. In addition I researched for my MA dissertation regarding the impact of non-profit organisations on China’s sustainable development and the prospects for political pluralism. Although I spent there only two months, I managed to overcome the linguistic barriers and get along with the colleagues as well as with the local population involved in our work.

Consequently, my translation skills are high developed. I have a strong linguistic expertise in English, Italian and Chinese language apart from a basic knowledge of French language. Thanks to my work as a journalist, I refined my vocabulary regarding environmental protection, energy and sustainability issues as a whole. Later on, I researched for my first MA dissertation about energy policies, which dramatically improved my expertise in this field of translation. In addition, my last master in Health and Development at UCL let me gain more expertise in translating and writing health-related reports and articles and again about environmental issues, obtaining a distinction grade on my individual research project.

Given the contemporary unstable work conditions and how the non-profit sector is rife with uncertainty, I decided to dedicate myself to translation as a free lancer, so that I can develop this passion alongside my other professional path and at the same time I can increase my financial input. I am not afraid of handling several tasks at the same time. Indeed since 2006 I have been a student and a professional at the same time, proving that I was able to prioritize and to succeed even under pressure.
