English to Polish: Selection of Important Bird Areas in Poland General field: Science Detailed field: Environment & Ecology
Source text - English Important Bird Areas in Poland were selected according to the C criteria developed by BirdLife International for the EU member states (Heath, Evans 2000). These criteria are used for the identification of sites of EU importance by BirdLife Partners in all member states, which provides comparable results and a uniform methodology. As it was described before, this method of IBA selection is accepted by the European Court of Justice as the methodology, that delivers a scientific baseline against which SPA designations can be measured.
A general description of the criteria is presented below. They refer to the number of bird species that were divided into several categories relating to their conservation status in Europe. Detailed thresholds for qualifying species are presented in Appendix I.
C1 – Species of global conservation concern
The site regularly holds significant numbers of globally threatened species. This criterion refers to species whose status was qualified by the IUCN (2001) as: Critically Endangered (CR), Endangered (EN), Vulnerable (VU), Least Concern (LC), Data Deficient (DD) and Near-threatened (NT).
In Poland, this criterion relates to the following species: Ferruginous Duck, Greater Spotted Eagle, White-tailed Eagle, Corncrake, Great Snipe and Aquatic Warbler.

Kryteria te wykorzystywane są do wyznaczania ostoi o randze europejskiej przez Partnerów BirdLife we wszystkich państwach członkowskich, co pozwala na otrzymanie porównywalnych wyników i ujednoliconą metodologię. Jak to wcześniej przedstawiono, taka metoda wyznaczania ostoi ptaków została usankcjonowana przez Europejski Trybunał Sprawiedliwości jako metodologia, która zapewnia naukową podstawę do wyznaczania obszarów OSOP.
Poniżej przedstawiono ogólną charakterystykę tych kryteriów. Odnoszą się one do liczebności gatunków ptaków, które zostały podzielone na kilka kategorii, różniących się statusem ich zagrożenia w Europie. Szczegółowe dane dotyczące progowych liczebności gatunków kwalifikujących przedstawiono w Załączniku I.
C1 – gatunki zagrożone w skali globalnej
Na obszarze takim występują regularnie w znaczącej liczebności gatunki zagrożone wyginięciem w skali globalnej. Kryterium to odnosi się do gatunków, których stopień zagrożenia został zakwalifikowany przez IUCN (2001) jako: gatunki skrajnie zagrożone (CR), gatunki bardzo wysokiego ryzyka (EN), gatunki wysokiego ryzyka, narażone na wyginięcie (VU), gatunki niskiego ryzyka (LC), gatunki w odniesieniu, do których brak wystarczających danych (DD) oraz gatunki niższego ryzyka, ale bliskie zagrożeniu (NT).
W Polsce kryterium to obejmuje następujące gatunki: podgorzałka, orlik grubodzioby, bielik, derkacz, dubelt i wodniczka.

Source text - Polish Your Life Is Like Grass, Then Comes Eternity
We all suffer from time-confusion. We know our lives are short and yet we all find this hard to actually believe. That’s because God is eternal (Psalm 90:2), we are made in his image (Genesis 1:27), he has put eternity in our hearts (Ecclesiastes 3:11), and yet as fallen creatures he has placed us all under the judgment of our bodies returning to dust (Genesis 3:19; Psalm 90:3). So we have both transiency and eternality at work in us — a spiritual dissonance. We will die, but after this there is judgment (Hebrews 9:27) leading either to eternal life (John 3:16) or eternal destruction (2 Thessalonians 1:9).
We also suffer from significance confusion. We intrinsically know that our lives are significant. God himself makes us, and he does so after his likeness, so how could we be anything but significant (Psalm 139:13–14; Genesis 1:26)? Yet sinful pride causes us to want to measure our significance, not by God’s gracious endowment, but by other people’s admiration. Our sin natures are not satisfied by the humble, yet staggering knowledge that God made us in his image; we want people to venerate us. We are significant creatures, but we want to be significant gods.
Psalm 90:1–11 is soul medicine for our time-confusion and significance confusion. Moses reminds us what our earthly lives are really like: Grass that flourishes in the morning and fades in the evening (verses 5–6). To the Maker of such grass, it is significant. In that sense, we are more significant than we know. But we are not as significant as we think, in the sense that we most often want to think.

Wszystkich nas dręczy problem doczesności. Wiemy, jak krótkie jest nasze życie, a mimo to wciąż ciężko nam w to uwierzyć. A wszystko to dlatego, że Bóg jest wieczny (Psalm 90:2), my zaś jesteśmy stworzeni na jego obraz i podobieństwo (Księga Rodzaju 1:27), wlał w nasze serca wieczność (Księga Koheleta 3:11), a jako grzeszne istoty żyjemy pod jarzmem naszych ciał, by potem w proch się obrócić (Księga Rodzaju 3:19, Psalm 90:3). Tak więc nosimy w sobie zarówno doczesność jak i wieczność, tworzące duchowy dysonans. Wszyscy umrzemy, jednak potem nastanie Sąd (List do Hebrajczyków 9:27), który otworzy nam drogę do życia wiecznego (Ewangelia wg Św. Jana 3:16) lub do wiecznego potępienia (2 List do Tesaloniczan 1:9).
Wszystkich nas dręczy również ogromny chaos. W głębi samych siebie nosimy poczucie, że nasze życia ma znaczenie. To Bóg osobiście nas stworzył i spodobało Mu się dzieło stworzenia. Jakże więc nasze życie miałoby nie być znaczące (Psalm 139:13-14, Księga Rodzaju 1:26)? Jednak nasza grzeszna duma nakazuje nam określać nasze znaczenie nie poprzez to, co ofiarował na Bóg, lecz poprzez podziw innych ludzi. Nasza grzeszna natura nie znajduje satysfakcji w pokorze, gdyż wiedza o tym, że Bóg stworzył nas na obraz swój i podobieństwo swoje każe nam domagać się od ludzi, aby nas czcili. Chociaż jesteśmy ważnymi istotami, to pragniemy być jednak ważnymi bogami.
Psalm 90:1-11 jest lekarstwem duchowym na nasze problemy z przeżywaniem doczesności oraz na zamęt związany z poczuciem ważności. Mojżesz przypomina nam, czym tak naprawdę jest nasze doczesne życie: „jak trawa, co rośnie: rankiem kwitnie i jest zielona, wieczorem więdnie i usycha” (wiersze 5-6). Dla stwórcy takiej trawy, jest ona ważna. W takim sensie jesteśmy o wiele bardziej ważni, niż nam to się wydaje. Jednak nie jesteśmy aż tak ważni, jak to sobie wyobrażamy, w tym sensie, że najczęściej staramy się tak myśleć.

Source text - English The project "Wetlands Work Wonders!" was a partnership venture. It was intended as a long-term operation, the ultimate goal of which is to restore meadows and wetland habitats for endangered bird species in conjunction with carrying out extensive pasture management and the maintenance of the flood control function of the northern part of the Warta River Mouth National Park, the so-called Polder Północny (Northern polder or NP).
The Project’s actions were carried out in the area of 2,800 hectares (Warta River Mouth National Park), and the actions’ indirect effects also positively influenced an additional area of over 2000 hectares (the area lying within the Natura 2000 network - PLC080001). Underlying the project was the need to restore the degraded areas lying within the limits of the Park as places for breeding, feeding and resting grounds during migration and wintering of the birds species dependent on open meadows and wetland habitats.
At present, birds of this group and their habitats are among the quickest disappearing and most vulnerable.
Due to the long period of implementation and the complexity of the planned activities, it had been decided to divide the whole project into two phases. The effect of phase 1 (2008-2009) was an extensive and comprehensive documentation of wildlife and hydrology, which through the implementation of recommended technical solutions allowed to achieve the conservational objectives.
Translation - Polish Projekt „Bagna są dobre!” był przedsięwzięciem partnerskim. Z założenia było to działanie długoterminowe, którego ostatecznym celem było odtworzenie łąk i siedlisk mokradłowych dla ginących gatunków ptaków wraz z utrzymaniem ekstensywnej gospodarki łąkarskiej i funkcji przeciwpowodziowej w północnej części Parku Narodowego "Ujście Warty", która zwana jest Polderem Północnym (ang. Northern Polder lub NP).
Działania Projektu realizowane były na obszarze 2800 hektarów (Park Narodowy "Ujście Warty”), natomiast pośrednie efekty działań pozytywnie wpływały na dodatkowe 2000 hektarów (obszar leżący w granicach sieci Natura 2000 - PLC080001). Powodem wdrażania projektu była konieczność odtworzenia zdegradowanych obszarów leżących w granicach Parku, a będących miejscem gniazdowania, żerowania i odpoczynku w czasie migracji i zimowania ptaków zależnych od otwartych siedlisk łąkowych i mokradłowych.
Obecnie gatunki z tej grupy i ich siedliska należą do najszybciej zanikających i najbardziej zagrożonych.
Z uwagi na długi okres wdrażania projektu i złożoność działań zdecydowano się na podzielenie projektu na dwa etapy. Efektem etapu 1 (2008-2009) była obszerna i kompleksowa dokumentacja przyrodnicza i hydrologiczna, która poprzez wdrożenie rekomendowanych rozwiązań technicznych, pozwoliła na osiągnięcie celów ochrony.
