Source text - Russian Следуя общеевропейской тенденции, с середины 19 в. и в Финляндии наблюдается как общественный, так и правительственный интерес к тюремной реформе. Внимательно изучая иностранный опыт, финские эксперты уже тогда видели основную цель наказания в исправлении преступника и возвращении его в общество. Постановление финского Сената от 1866 г., вступившее в силу с 1870 г., представляло переход от устаревшего шведского уложения к новому финскому Уголовному Кодексу, проект которого уже составлялся. Под тюремным заключением уже тогда имелось в виду не только содержание преступника под стражей и занятие его трудом, но и его исправление через обучение, дисциплину и прилежание. Для большей эффективности реабилитации преступников, финским законом привлекались сами заключённые, в которых поддерживалось осознание того, что все меры, предпринимаемые в тюрьме, вводились для их пользы. Поэтому меры наказания были поставлены в полную зависимость от их прилежания и поведения. В силу этого принципа заключённые распределялись на 4 класса. При переводе в высший класс заключённые пользовались большими денежными преимуществами, учащались переписка и свидания, увеличивался выбор занятий в свободное время.
Translation - English Following the general European tendency, Finland too saw increased societal and government interest in prison reform from the mid-19th Century onwards. Attentively studying foreign models, Finnish experts saw even then that the main goal of criminal justice must be the rehabilitation and social reintegration of the offender. The resolution passed by the Finnish Senate in 1866, which took action in 1870, signalled the transition from an outdated Swedish system to the new Finnish Criminal Code, which had already been drafted. Incarceration was already taken to mean not only physical restraint and enforced labour, but rehabilitation through education, discipline, and industry. To ensure maximally effective criminal rehabilitation, Finnish law transferred responsibility to the prisoners themselves. They would be living proof that all measures implemented in prisons were introduced for their benefit. Therefore punishment was meted out in direct correlation with prisoners’ industriousness and good behaviour. Accordingly, prisoners were divided into 4 classes. Upon reaching the highest class, prisoners had significant economic advantages, their correspondence and visiting rights were increased, as was the choice of activities in their free time.

Source text - Russian Рубеж 80-90-х годов XIX века в шахматах был ознаменован длительной дискуссией, которую вели Вильгельм Стейниц и Михаил Чигорин. Будучи антиподами во всём, что касалось любимой игры, спорить они могли без устали как за доской, так и на страницах своих журналов. Это касалось не только отдельных вариантов, не только того или иного дебюта, а в целом – подхода к шахматам. Чигорин пропагандировал начало искусства, творчества за доской. Стейниц опирался на научно-догматический подход. Конец дебатам не смог положить даже матч между ними, в котором Чигорин потерпел поражение. На очередной виток дебаты ушли в 1889 году, когда Михаил Иванович раскритиковал рекомендуемые Стейницем варианты в гамбите Эванса и в защите двух коней. Он предложил Чемпиону разрешить спор в мини-матче по телеграфу. Спортивного значения у этого противостояния не было. По сути, это был теоретический эксперимент. Дебюты гроссмейстеры заранее оговорили и вели обе партии одновременно. На ход каждому давалось по два дня.
Translation - English The threshold between the last two decades of the 19th Century was distinguished, in the chess world, by an extended discourse between Wilhelm Steinitz and Mikhail Chigorin. Complete opposites in everything that concerned their beloved game, the two masters could argue as hotly in the pages of their respective magazines as they could over the chessboard. And their arguments concerned not only particular variations or openings, but approaches to the game as a whole. Chigorin propagated an artistic approach, creativity at the board. Steinitz, on the other hand, promoted a style of play that was both scientific and dogmatic. Not even the World Championship match in which Chigorin had suffered a clear defeat could put an end to their ongoing debate. A new point of contention arose in 1889, when Mikhail Chigorin criticised the Evans Gambit variations and Two Knights defence recommended by Steinitz in his Modern Chess Instructor. To settle their quarrel, Chigorin invited the Champion to a mini-match by telegraph. This contest was not by any means a sporting event. In essence, it was a theoretical experiment. The grandmasters agreed upon their starting positions in advance, and conducted both games simultaneously. Each player was given two days per move.

В 2013-2014 учебном году открыто двуязычное французско-русское отделение при поддержке Посольства Франции в России и Французского института в Санкт-Петербурга.
10 декабря 2013 года в рамках первого официального визита в Санкт-Петербург посла Франции в Российской Федерации Жана-Мориса Риппера во Французском институте состоялось подписание хартии, регламентирующей работу открывшегося на базе МШГУ российско-французского отделения.
Двуязычные отделения функционируют на базе российских средних школ и предлагает программы углубленного изучения французского языка, а также изучение нелингвистических предметов на французском языке.
Ученики русско-французских двуязычных отделений составляют привилегированную группу и получают возможность продолжить обучение в самых престижных университетах мира.
Translation - English Bilingual division
In the 2013-2014 academic year, the school opened a bilingual French-Russian division with the support of the French Embassy and the French Institute in Saint Petersburg.
On December 10th, 2013, as part of French Ambassador Jean-Maurice Ripert’s first official visit to Saint Petersburg, a charter was signed at the French institute regulating the work of ISHU’s bilingual division.
Bilingual divisions in Russian secondary schools offer an advanced level of French language study, as well as variety of non-language subjects in French.
Bilingual division students are a privileged group who may go on to study at the world’s most prestigious universities.
