WHY IT NECESSARY TO EMPLOY LONG RANGER™ IN ORDER TO AUTOMATE PIPELINE SAFETY
In order to automate Pipeline Safety the pipeline industry until now has attempted to use SCADA despite the fact that SCADA is an operational program designed to analyze the field instrumentation data measuring flow, pressure, and temperature from gauges/transmitters which are installed along the pipeline at some specific locations, such as injection or delivery stations, pump stations (liquid pipelines) or compressor stations (gas pipelines), and block valve stations. This instrumentation is expensive and cannot be left unprotected in remote conditions, it is used only in the protected stations areas. This is how the use of SCADA in valve automation delays detection and a consequent reaction to the danger. By this exposes the lives of people, the infrastructure and the environment to the danger of large spills and gas explosions.
This is why it is not possible to LOCATE THE POINT of leak or TPI along the pipeline span which might exceed 200km and it will take much longer to determine the location of leak or TPI simply by using SCADA.

LONG RANGER™ is a new technological system based on the fiber-optic cable used as a linear distributed sensor over the full length of the pipeline.
It is effective in the prevention of oil spills and/or gas explosions due to its unique ability to detect, locate and classify vibrations caused by physical activity (such as third party interference -TPI), while simultaneously monitoring for early-stage leaks, along the entire length of the pipeline in real-time.

WHY IT NECESSARY TO EMPLOY LONG RANGER™ IN ORDER TO AUTOMATE PIPELINE SAFETY
In order to automate Pipeline Safety the pipeline industry until now has attempted to use SCADA despite the fact that SCADA is an operational program designed to analyze the field instrumentation data measuring flow, pressure, and temperature from gauges/transmitters which are installed along the pipeline at some specific locations, such as injection or delivery stations, pump stations (liquid pipelines) or compressor stations (gas pipelines), and block valve stations. This instrumentation is expensive and cannot be left unprotected in remote conditions, it is used only in the protected stations areas. This is how the use of SCADA in valve automation delays detection and a consequent reaction to the danger. By this exposes the lives of people, the infrastructure and the environment to the danger of large spills and gas explosions.
This is why it is not possible to LOCATE THE POINT of leak or TPI along the pipeline span which might exceed 200km and it will take much longer to determine the location of leak or TPI simply by using SCADA.
Additionally, the instruments of SCADA send very large volumes of data which often over-saturate the existing ETHERNET communications capabilities.
