Source text - English Sometimes conflicts will arise between the style sheets that influence the presentation. Conflict resolution is based on each style rule having a weight. By default, the weights of the reader's rules are less than the weights of rules in the author's documents. I.e., if there are conflicts between the style sheets of an incoming document and the reader's personal sheets, the author's rules will be used. Both reader and author rules override the UA's default values.
The imported style sheets also cascade with each other, in the order they are imported, according to the cascading rules defined below. Any rules specified in the style sheet itself override rules in imported style sheets. That is, imported style sheets are lower in the cascading order than rules in the style sheet itself. Imported style sheets can themselves import and override other style sheets, recursively.
Translation - Polish Czasami mogą wystąpić konflikty pomiędzy różnymi arkuszami stylów. Problem ten rozwiązuje się za pomocą nadania stylom stopni ważności. Domyślnie, style użytkownika mają mniejszą ważność od stylów autora. To znaczy, że jeżeli w przychodzącym dokumencie wystąpią jakiekolwiek konflikty pomiędzy stylami autora i użytkownika, to zastosowane zostaną style autora dokumentu. Ważność najmniejszą mają style domyślne aplikacji.
Importowane arkusze stylów segregowane są kaskadowo wg kolejności w jakiej zostały dołączone zgodnie z zasadami opisanymi poniżej. Reguły znajdujące się w samym arkuszu stylów mają pierwszeństwo przed regułami importowanymi z innych arkuszy. Mówiąc inaczej, arkusze importowane znajdują się na niższym poziomie w kaskadzie niż reguły osadzone. Style importowane mogą same importować i przesłaniać inne arkusze stylów w sposób rekurencyjny.

Source text - English Most people don't realize that Microsoft's experience with spreadsheets extends back to the early 1980s. In 1982, Microsoft released its first spreadsheet-MultiPlan. Designed for computers running the CP/M operating system, the product was subsequently ported to several other platforms, including Apple II, Apple III, XENIX, and MS-DOS. MultiPlan essentially ignored existing software user-interface standards. Difficult to learn and use, it never earned much of a following in the United States. Not surprisingly, Lotus 1-2-3 pretty much left MultiPlan in the dust.
Excel partly evolved from MultiPlan, first surfacing in 1985 on the Macintosh. Like all Mac applications, Excel was a graphics-based program (unlike the character-based MultiPlan). In November 1987, Microsoft released the first version of Excel for Windows (labeled Excel 2 to correspond with the Macintosh version). Excel didn't catch on right away, but as Windows gained popularity, so did Excel. Lotus eventually released a Windows version of 1-2-3, and Excel had additional competition from Quattro Pro-originally a DOS program developed by Borland International, then sold to Novell, and then sold again to Corel (its current owner).

Program został zaprojektowany z myślą o komputerach z systemem operacyjnym CP/M, ale z czasem przeniesiono go także na kilka innych platform, takich jak Apple II, Apple III, XENIX i MS-DOS. Twórcy tego arkusza zasadniczo ignorowali istniejące wtedy standardy dotyczące interfejsu użytkownika programu. Był on trudny do nauczenia i nigdy nie zyskał dużego grona zwolenników w Stanach Zjednoczonych. Nie jest zaskoczeniem, że Lotus 1-2-3 pozostawił go daleko w tyle.
