Discussion

Martin Cassell Jun 25, 2010:
but you must have some idea of the process which is being described at this point. I would infer that this section at least is addressed to system implementers, rather than end users, but only you have the full context. (If you don't, ask the client to shed some light!)
Elisabeth Toda-v.Galen (asker) Jun 25, 2010:
the problem is... that I don't see the screen, so I have no idea of what it describes...
I have another one, so I'll post another question. After 10 000+ words relatively comprehensible, they are getting more complicated ;-(
Martin Cassell Jun 25, 2010:
no, that leaves the schmilblick exactly where it was!

but if the screen in question is (for example) for implementing a user interface, then presumably your original text is field descriptions to guide the implementors, and needs to be translated.

can you tell us anything more about the function/purpose of the section of the software from which you question term comes?
Elisabeth Toda-v.Galen (asker) Jun 25, 2010:
Voici la 1e colonne concernant ces données DBGridConfig_AdvCGrid.Item5
DBGridConfig_AdvCGrid.Item6
DBGridConfig_AdvCGrid.Item7
DBGridConfig_AdvCGrid.Item8

Martin Cassell Jun 25, 2010:
but are these the text strings themselves, or their names, or just descriptions? They look like descriptions (in which case they can be translated), but it's so hard to tell from the little you have given.

I would have expected the text you have given to be one column, and the other columns to have the variable/field name, parameters such as length, and possibly contents (depending on the exact nature of what you're translating): this other content might help to provide some guidance.
Elisabeth Toda-v.Galen (asker) Jun 25, 2010:

After reading the whole set of source terms, I would confidently infer that this relates to a screen used by implementers to define screens which will be displayed to end-users in a given implementation.

The logic will run like this:
- define a SQL (database) condition (2nd line of your terms)
- define the text and image to be displayed to the end-user if this condition is satisfied ("text/image on true"), and if it is not satisfied ("text/image on false")

Native speakers of "informatique" might suggest better ways to formulate this, of course.

text on true

Note from asker:
Peer comment(s):

neutral Martin Cassell : but we have so little information: these could be field descriptions, which could validly be translated // see my discussion comments
