Vertisol pélico: Son suelos muy arcillosos, frecuentemente negros o gris oscuro, pegajosos cuando están húmedos y muy duros cuando secos. A veces son salinos, casi siempre muy fértiles, aunque presentan ciertos problemas para su manejo, ya que la dureza dificulta su labranza, con frecuencia presenta problema de inundación y de drenaje interno. Textura gruesa y fase gravosa. Este tipo de suelo es el que se encuentra en el sitio del proyecto.

USDA/NRCS Soil Survey Manual - Chapter Two
This is one of the main references for soil science & agricultural soil evaluation, at least in the US. The entire Manual is available free online, in chunks.
Example sentence:
