The expression you are looking for is "drop dead device". It's a routine embedded in the software which allows the licensor to disable the program installed on the licensee's computer in case of dispute with the latter. (Non payment of a fee for example). Here is another explanation: https://www.safe-in-cloud.com/en/license-agreement.html under 4.1.3: the Software does not contain any back door, time bomb, drop dead device or other routine intentionally designed by the Licensor to disable a computer program or computer instructions that alter, destroy or inhibit the processing environment.
