Jacku. Dating from 1894 means pochodzący z (daty) roku 1894. The custom of decorating eggs dates from the 10th century.

We have now three interpretations. "Dating from" is more or less "z daty. " It is an idiom of sorts. Our answers function differently in the sentence.

I would not dare to discuss with the native proposal, but "dating from..." sounds to me sort of like - "from 1984 onwards", meaning no matter how was it look like in 1895, 1896, ... for instance. Otherwise, I am completely wrong as to what is to be understood by the phrase "dating from..." to mean :)
