Discussion

Yuki Okada Oct 13, 2008:
It seems to me that this is a typo for 剛性 (stiffness, rigidity).
stephenaedwards (asker) Oct 13, 2008:

This is part of the sentence. It should clarify things
stephenaedwards (asker) Oct 13, 2008:
Is this a mistake? Could this be a mistyped version of '剛性' (stiffness) or is it a different property?

Semi-steel

or if you doubt the kanji themselves it could even simply be 鋼製 "steel."

so with reference to polymers it could be 'semi-plastics,' or 'semi-polymers.'

rigidity

剛性 = rigidity
剛性計 = rigidometer
剛性率 = shear modulus

The best approach is rigidity, though stiffness is also frequently used
