I know the meaning of destaca, but I don't understand the subject of this sentence. Could it be a typo? "destacan las relaciones"?

The "presentational" power of the verb is so strong that people forget that it will have to inflect with the upcoming subject. I also found this happening in a book I translated, and when I confronted the author, he was embarrassed to see that his verb did not agree with the subject.
