My take on it. Or just "murmuring" instead of "murmur of sighs", but I prefer the latter.

Or "groaning"
Example sentence:

De vez en cuando me llegaba ese murmullo que salía de lo más profundo de las penas de los trabajadores y de las mujeres que les acompañaban en las faenas de recolección del algodón.

Occasionally I would hear that murmur of sighs that emanated from the bowels of despair of the workers and women who accompanied them in the tasks of harvesting cotton.

Thanks a lot, Adoración!
neutral GP Translations : I like murmur of sighs. Maybe " a murmur of sighs that emanated from the deepest sorrows" It's kind of a mixture of the three.

Thanks. I guess that's up to the asker to decide, and to a lesser degree, our peers on here. Think I prefer "bowels of despair" or something stemming from "depths of despair"

From time to time I would hear a murmuring that rose from the deepest troubles of the workers

Just my attempt
Peer comment(s):

agree Muriel Vasconcellos : While the original is already "purple prose," I prefer not to go "over the top."
