Laeticia Maris Nov 14, 2023:
Other focus It seems to me that "institutional spaces", as a branch of studies, focuses more on the social functions of institutions.

It reminds me of Milton Santos' studies on space, in which "Santos examines the role of space, which he defines as indissoluble systems of objects and systems of actions in social processes, while providing a geographic contribution to the production of a critical social theory" (https://www.dukeupress.edu/the-nature-of-space). In this very same book, Santos discusses the inseparability between institutions and space - which, IMHO, may be the focus of "Institutional Spaces" as a field of studies.

It does make a difference, thus, if Maite picks only "Institutions". There may be this sort of focus on social theories - without mentioning "spaces", she may lose some of the intended meaning in the original.

My vote is for "Institutional Spaces", as Jane suggested below.

Could it just mean institutions?

You could do a literal translation, but it doesn't convey a clear meaning.

I think it's that simple. : )

neutral philgoddard : But your reference is from architectural photography. The 'dictionary definition' it refers to is of institutions, not ' institutional spaces'.

You're right. Although I still think this is the best translation here. : )
