I guess in English a rough equivalent would be Assistant Chief of Police, (Deputy?) but I\'m not all that familiar with the Italian police system!

The rank is 4 above basic "agente". I would think it is at most the equivalent of Police Sergeant in the UK,(there are 9 ranks in the UK, from Constable to Chief Constable). I would leave it in the Italian.
