picking my pocket...

Suggestion.

To give more accurate context, I added the word "government" (Le pick-pocket "par excellence") to my search ;)
Example sentence:

But how will picking my pocket make our roads safer? ... The Government announced yesterday that from July, police will be able to issue

The government was constantly picking my pocket and the whole state ... are tightening their belts, government must tighten its belt too

First and foremost, putting their hands in my pocket

It is best if hand is plural - sounds more like an idiom that way and less literal. Also, with more context it would be evident if you would be better off saying 'in our pockets'.
Example sentence:

People are more inclined to put their hands in their pockets to help children.

Peer comment(s):

neutral neilmac : Spurious reasoning; IMO the verb is only plural in the example because "people" is.

neutral AllegroTrans : a gang of pickpockets?
