: I think Mr Whitehead (with his rather unusual prose style) has misunderstood the meaning of radiophonic: http://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/radiophonic. He possibly means it as the radio equivalent of telegenic.

I don't think that "authoritative" has an exagerated meaning here, but rather, means inspiring confidence. "I speak in my warm, deep, authoritative (that inspires belief and confidence apparently!), contralto voice waxing enthusiastic about their product or service and suddenly the visitor to their site sees the light. A no brainer!" (a real humble guy!)
