Cytokines play an important role in the immune system and in various physiological processes such as growth and development of cells and tissues. Genetic modifications can affect the expression and regulation of these proteins which can lead to various pathological conditions. Gene polymorphisms in the IL4 receptor have in several studies been associated with both the occurrence and severity of asthma, and studies have shown that asthmatics have higher levels of the soluble IL4R in the blood than healthy individuals.
The soluble IL4R is produced via alternative splicing, but how this process is regulated is not yet known. About 60% of all genes are thought to be exposed to alternative splicing and several medical conditions have been identified that is caused by genes giving rise to the wrong /no protein. We believe that gene polymorphisms in the IL4R may be involved in regulation of different splicing transcripts via changes in the splicing factor binding sites and that this can lead to various pathological conditions such as allergy and asthma.

I am a medical researcher with a passion for writing and editing. After spending 10 years in medical research I have now turned my attention to editing and translating.

I was born in Sweden and I also did my basic training and my PhD in medicine in Sweden. Working in academia you are surrounded by foreign language speakers and I started my translation career translating grant applications and other scientific writings for co-workers.

After my PhD I moved to England and spent 6 years in cancer/stem cell research also writing and editing scientific papers. My area of expertise is molecular biology and cancer/stem cell research, but I am happy to translate in most medical or biology related subjects.
