Portuguese to English: Seven Tips for Choosing your Wedding Photographer General field: Marketing
Source text - Portuguese O dia do seu casamento é um dia muito importante na sua vida. As imagens desse dia vão durar para sua vida inteira. As flores? Vão murchar. O bolo? Talvez vocês vão guardar um pedaço para seu primeiro aniversario, mas não vai durar muito tempo ;). Porém vai poder olhar as fotos do seu casamento 50 anos depois e reviver aquele dia.
Por isso, escolher um fotógrafo pro seu casamento é importante! Parece difícil, mas não tem que ser assim. Tenho aqui algumas dicas para facilitar o processo.
· Estilo
o Primeiramente, tem que decidir um estilo em que o casal goste. Você dever adorar o estilo e a obra do fotógrafo!
Os estilos mais comuns em fotografia de casamento podem ser classificado em: fotojornalismo ou retrato.
Fotógrafia feito em estilo de fotojornalismo é cândido, sem alterar a cena do casamento. O fotógrafo deixa os acontecimentos do dia acontecer. Um exemplo desse estilo seria fotos da noiva fazendo o cabelo e maquiagem ou os noivos se olhando durante a cerimônia e fotos espontâneas da festa. A intenção é contar a história da forma mais real possível.
Se você prefere fotos mais tradicionais, recomendo um fotógrafo do estilo retrato. Um bom fotógrafo de retrato fazem fotos posadas e sabem tirar fotos de ângulos que favorecem mais o casal. Seria uma boa opção para pessoas que não gostam o jeito que eles parecem em fotos espontâneas.
O que eu acho? Vou ser tendencioso porque a maioria da minha fotografia é fotojornalismo. Eu prefiro esse estilo por ser mais moderno e conta a história pura do dia. Mas também faço muitos retratos dos noivos e da família, então meu estilo é uma combinação dos dois. Aconselho sempre dar uma boa olhada no portfólio do fotógrafo antes de qualquer coisa.
· Marque entrevistas
o Todo mundo já passou por uma situação em que não gostou muito de uma pessoa, seja por algum motivo específico ou nao! Então não faz sentido contratar um fotógrafo que você não gosta. Você vai passar um dia inteiro (um dos dias mais importante da sua vida!) com seu fotógrafo. Então deveria ter certeza que a personalidade do casal combina com a do fotógrafo. É por isso que eu recomendo encontrar pessoalmente (pode usar skype também) com o fotógrafo, pois não tem outro jeito de conhecer uma pessoa sem conversar com ela.
· Veja oalbum de casamento completo do fotógrafo
o Já ouvi muitas historias como essa: Um casal vê a obra de um fotógrafo, o contrata mas a qualidade das fotos que o casal recebe são muito piores do que viram no site ou no portfolio dele. Todo mundo com uma câmera na mão pode tirar fotos boas de vez em quando. Mas somente fotógrafos experientes e profissionais podem tirar fotos lindas de maneira constante. Qualquer pessoa pode comprar uma câmera e dizer que é fotógrafo. Mas não significa que realmente tem a habilidade de fotografar de verdade. O mercado é cheio de fotógrafos assim. Mas eu não recomendo contratá-los porque você recebe o que você paga e suas fotos terão uma qualidade muito inferior do que se fossem feitas por um profissional. A forma de descobrir se o fotógrafo pode tirar além de algumas poucas fotos boas é pedir para ver um album de um casamento inteiro. Reserve parte do seu orçamento para fotografia – você não arrependerá.
· Comece procurar seu fotógrafo imediatamente
o Não procrastine! Bons fotógrafos normalmente possuem uma agenda cheia. O ideal é reservar a data com quatro meses ou mais de antecedência.
· O profissionalismo do fotógrafo
o A postura, forma de falar e chegar nos compromissos sem atrasos são alguns indícios do profissionalismo do fotógrafo. Se vocês vão ter um casamento bem clássico e chique, talvez deveriam evitar a contratar um fotógrafo que se veste como se fosse indo num show de rock. Mas rock n roll!
· Referencias não são tão importantes quanto parecem
o Isso vai ser controverso, mas só porque um fotógrafo fez o casamento do seus amigos, ou até de vários amigos seus, não significa que ele tira fotos boas! Uma referencia é bom para ter uma ideia sobre a personalidade e o comportamento do fotógrafo no dia do casamento. E isso é ótimo. Só tenha cuidado e certeza de que vocês gostam do estilo do fotógrafo e o encontre pessoalmente pra ver se ele combina com vocês.
· Não adianta perguntar sobre os equipamentos do fotógrafo
o A não ser que você entenda de fotografia, o fato de eu usar uma Nikon D750 não vai significar muito para você. Um bom fotógrafo pode tirar fotos maravilhosas com uma câmera barata, mas um fotógrafo ruim pode tirar fotos ruins com a melhor câmera no mundo. Claro que um bom fotógrafo deveria ter os melhores equipamentos possíveis mas não é a coisa mais importante em fotografia.
Fotografia é algo subjetivo. O estilo que eu gosto pode não agradar outras pessoas. E isso é ok! Uma das belezas da fotografia é que todo mundo pode ter seu proprio estilo. O mais importante é você faça uma pesquisa para conseguir o melhor fotógrafo que combine com o estilo e orçamento do casal.
Translation - English Your wedding day is a very important day in your life. The images from this day are going to last for your entire life. The flowers? They’ll wither soon after the festivities are said and done with. The cake? Maybe you’ll resist temptation for an entire year and keep a couple pieces for your first anniversary. However, you’ll be able to look at your wedding photos fifty years after and relive that day.
Because of this, choosing the right photographer for you and your loved one should not be taken lightly! It seems difficult, but it doesn’t have to be that way. Here are a few tips to facilitate the process.
1. Style
• Firstly, you have to find out and agree upon a style that both people from the couple like. You should absolutely love the style and work of the photographer you end up choosing! Don’t settle for less!
The most common styles within wedding photography can be classified in one of two ways: portrait (a more traditional style, think of your parents’ wedding album) or photojournalism (a more modern style).
Wedding photography done in the photojournalism style is candid, without altering the scene of the wedding. The photographer just lets the happenings of the day go on. An example of this style would be the bride getting her hair and makeup done, the bride and groom looking at each other during the ceremony, or some spontaneous dancing photos during the reception. The intention is to tell the story of the day in the realest possible way.
If you prefer more traditional photos, I recommend a portrait-style photographer. A good portrait photographer does posed photos and knows how to take photos from flattering angles that make the couple look as good as possible. It’s a good option for people who don’t like the way they look in spontaneous photos.
My opinion? Well, I’m biased because the majority of my photography is photojournalism but I prefer this style because it’s more modern and tells the real story of the day. But I also take plenty of portraits of the couple and of the family, so my style is a combination of the two. I think there should be a mixture of both. My advice is to always take a good look at the portfolio of the photographer before making any decisions.
2. Schedule meetings with potential photographers
• Everyone has been through a situation in which they didn’t like someone very much. It’s just human nature. So it doesn’t make sense to hire a photographer that you don’t like. You’re going to spend an entire day (one of the most important days of your life!) with your photographer. So you should be sure that you as a couple get along well with the photographer. It’s because of this that I recommend meeting personally (if that’s not possible it could be through Skype also) with several photographers, because there’s just no other way to get to know a person without talking with them.
3. See a complete album from the photographer
• We’ve probably all heard a few stories like this: a couple sees the work of a photographer, then hires them, but the quality of the photos received are way worse than what they saw on the photographer’s website or small portfolio. Anyone with a camera in hand cam take good photos every once in a while. But it’s only experienced, professional photographers who can take beautiful photos on a consistent basis. Anyone can buy a camera and say that they are a professional photographer. But it doesn’t mean that they really have the skills to shoot professionally. The market is full of photographers like this. I don’t recommend hiring them because you get what you pay for with photography. The way to find out if a photographer can take other than a few lucky photos is to ask to see a complete album. Reserve part of your budget for photography – you won’t regret it.
4. Start looking for your photographer immediately
• Don’t procrastinate! Pure and simple. Good photographers normally have a full schedule six months up to even a year in advance. It’s ideal to reserve your date at least six months ahead of the wedding day.
5. Professionalism of the photographer
• The attitude, way of communication, and following through with commitments are all indications of the professionalism of the photographer. If you’re going to have a classic, sophisticated wedding, the photographer should look and dress the part. You wouldn’t want your photographer showing up dressed as if your wedding was a rock show would you? But rock n’ roll!
6. References from friends aren’t as important as they may seem
• This may come across as controversial to many, but just because a photographer did your friends’ wedding, or even several of you friends’ weddings, doesn’t mean he/she is a good photographer! You are not your friends! You and your future wife or husband are unique individuals with your own style and needs. A reference is good to have an idea about how a photographer acts during the day of a wedding. And that’s great information. Just be careful and make sure that you like the style of the photographer and meet personally to see if your personalities match.
7. It doesn’t do much good to ask about a photographer’s equipment
• Unless you’re a photographer yourself, the fact that I use a Nikon D750 is probably not going to mean much to you. A good photographer can take amazing photos with a cheap camera. On the other hand, a bad photographer can take awful photos with the best camera in the world. Of course a good professional photographer can and will have the best equipment possible but it’s not the most important thing in photography.
Photography is highly subjective. The style that I like may not be pleasing to other people. And that’s OK! One of the beauties of photography is that everyone can have their own style. The most important thing is that you do your homework so that you can get the best photographer for your style and budget.
